The TARDIS lands in a dark moonlit hallway. That's pretty much it.

A better effect than they use in the show now!!! I can't understand why they don't make the lamp flash anymore and just have the tardis just fade in and out rather than the 2005-2011ish effect they used.
@filmicvisuals4 жыл бұрын
I really miss the flashy lamp too, as I believe it's one of the parts of the TARDIS where she can show lots of energy. Let's hope the BBC does a little better next season. 😂

I think the BBC should hire you for Doctor Who just to create the materialisations/de-materialisations compared to the shambles they've had in place for the last 7-8 years. Having the lamp flash and the TARDIS fade in slowly, like back between 2005-2011, as opposed to erratically like it does these days makes all the difference between a good effect and a shoddy one in my book.

“The TARDIS lands in a dark, moonlit hallway. That’s about it.” *That’s not it* - There is Humility (which is essential), and then there is False Modesty : You actually thought to add-in the reverb at the point where it becomes fully solid (and therefore heavy) when the weight kicks in and has to get absorbed by the floor (which is unlikely to be fully solid, or unyielding) suddenly having to support it - a solid object, with a mass and weight, suddenly being placed upon it without having been dropped. You are a very astute and talented Young Man.

Ok this one is stellar. I love the bright blue that lit the whole room and that it appeared before the rest of the Tardis did. Bass on the touchdown was good too. I like that you used the whole sound effect too. Loved the console sounds after it landed too. I do think you could work on the warping in and out effect though, it just seemed to fade in. Which is fine, still works great. But if you could get the warp in and out effect while it’s landing that would bump it up another notch. Stellar work though. Definitely one of the best ones I’ve seen
@boeloevanboeloefontein Жыл бұрын
I actually thought the same thing about the fading in effect at first, but on closer inspection it seems more like the fading simply paused between the engine "rotations" - the lighting makes that difficult to spot though.
@filmicvisuals Жыл бұрын
You're right, it does pause, and the lighting is what makes it difficult to spot. I am aware of a few issues I overlooked during the creation of this, one of them being the very obvious noise that you can see on the TARDIS window glow, caused by low sample counts in rendering. The TARDIS materialization is already very iconic, and it's a very tricky effect to get right if you add stuff on top of the fading, that doesn't make it obnoxious or weird. I'll think of something, given time!
@thedoctorreileymtd4022 Жыл бұрын
@@filmicvisuals No dude you killed it on this one. Keep doing what you’re doing. Everything has its flaws and it’s creator will always see them more than everyone else. I didn’t think of the difficulty of the fading in effect to be affected when adding other effects, guess that does make sense. My dad’s a Cinematographer and taught me how to use FinalCutProX growing up. So I made KZfaq videos and streamed when I was a younger teenager. So I loosely understand most Visual Effects work.

This is one thing i don’t get, usually, the tardis just flashes until it lands, but on certain occasions, it flies? For example after 9s death it hits several buildings before crashing on the side of the road

Damn, these animations are better than John's! Like, look at it! Even the lights match the engine, like they shloud.

John Smith's effects are far beyond what I can achieve, and I can only hope to be able to do even half of what he does :( all I can really do is make sure small details like the top lamp matching the engine, happen!

This reminded me of what we missed during the Jodie era, the setting or place never had character, the sound design for wherever the tardis is landing in this clip already oozes more feeling and ambience then seguns repetitive emotional beat music
@filmicvisuals Жыл бұрын
I agree :( Series 11-13 Doctor Who was plagued, for me, by a lack of music.

What happens if someone is inside of the place it appears in
@filmicvisuals8 ай бұрын
This has actually been explored in the show, if you didn't already know! When someone is at the place the TARDIS is materializing at, they also "materialize," conversely inside the control room! This has happened (off the top of my head, correct me if I'm wrong) in Season 7B's "Dinosaurs on a Spaceship" and Specials "The Husbands of River Song" and "The Return of Doctor Mysterio"!
@SageGilbert1918 ай бұрын
@@filmicvisuals where in the control room do they appear? Since it’s bigger than the telephone box itself
@filmicvisuals8 ай бұрын
@@SageGilbert191 It varies per control room. In the Eleventh Doctor's first control room, objects/people materialize just after the entrance door, around the small sub-level before the main console platform. In the Twelfth Doctor's control room, it was on a landing on stairs leading to the console platform. It may change -- Doctor Who's really cool and silly in that we can figure out an in-universe plausible reason why those spots were chosen other than just "the writers / director decided it to be there" -- for instance, the TARDIS is sentient, so it chose those spots when having to materialize things inside itself!
