Did the specials live up to the hype or were they a let down? Here's my personal opinions & thoughts on all three of Doctor Who's 60th anniversary specials.

My opinion on the part where they ask the Meep it's pronoun is that it could have worked wonderfully with David Tennant's Doctor if they had made him ask if it was some weird alien pronouns instead of just asking if it uses our pronouns. It could have brought back some of the old sort of strange and unusual new alien terms that the earlier seasons were known for and could have added a bit of familiar comedy to this episode.

Yeah that would of probably worked better than the way it was presented on screen.

18:38 I think you miss the point here slightly, this "celestial god" as you say is limited by the rules of the game. that's his one binding principle, that he can't cheat. that makes him losing a game of catch where he isn't allowed to manipulate physics and so on a totally believable outcome. Addressing the bi-generation, The English teacher chiselled into the back of my skull would say that the juxtaposition of a typical regeneration where the emotions of the loss of a long-beloved character mix with the emotions of excitement for the character to come create an incredible moment. the phoenix rising from the ashes moment is very emotionally charged, without the loss element the moment just doesn't work. Finally addressing representation, I Myself am queer and though I am Cis I do have trans friends with whom I have discussed this latest series of specials. The general consensus is that the representation is very heavy-handed, this is especially a shame when you contrast this to the representation in RTD's earlier work on Dr Who which I thought while underwhelming and could be stepped up was still very natural. There are ways to do incredibly positive natural feeling representation, but this is not that, this somehow alienates all groups whether they are the subject of representation or not.

I appreciate your honest feedback. In regards to the 2 games no matter really how you look at them it's ridiculous especially a game of catch. I do agree with you that the toymaker is bound by the rules of the game he states that but it's really the fact that I wanted something that would actually challenge the doctor not just physically.

@@thewhoview I actually think if it was any strategy the toy make most likely knows the best way to win the game even without his power why he won against all the powerful people but the doctor knew that so he didn’t play a strategy game he played a luck game witch give a 50% chance then he try a reflux game witch has no strategy it’s about who can catch the ball and he can’t use his power so I actually the two games that he picks out shows Doctor Who intelligence to be someone who out matches him

Even though the there were some redeeming qualities, ultimately the general direction the show has taken just ain't it for me. It's not the same show anymore. Doubling down on the Timeless Child and the in your face politics aren't my jam. I enjoyed all of Who up to the end of Peter Capaldi's era, and I'm happy with what we got up to that point.

The Celestial Toymaker is great, but Harris has a beautiful singing voice, so why did RTD have him lip-sync a quarter-century-old pop tune?

You’re totally right with everything you said mate. Good to hear people saying the truth instead of being scared to be cancelled ❤️ some good moments but overall disappointing, not leaving much hope for the new series

Totally missed & wasted opportunity. I seriously don't know how you fail at having your anniversary specials feel like a celebration of your show's history. 1 special that shoves a political message in your face & is a very loose adaptation of a great comic but fails at even being an adaptation & then your other 2 specials are bad rehashes of better written stories. (Wild Blue Yonder - Midnight) (the Giggle - Sound of Drums/ Last of the Time Lords) I can't believe that you got both David Tennant & Catherine Tate back for this. Those 2 were literally the only good thing about the specials.
