Great show. Many thanks, Dan, Char, Matt and Will. I'm looking forward to the Type40 Live coverage of ComicCon far more than any special announcements that may be made there. I suppose that just reflects my present lack of affection for the current version of the show. I do want to see it succeed, but nowadays my entertainment comes from what's said about it rather than any new stories it may tell. Please, Russell, say the right things to lift my heart, not spout the usual superlatives that you have ensured I will now no longer believe.

Many thanks, Dan et al, for another typically varied and entertaining instalment. For reasons that I'll probably never understand, and despite many fan friends saying nothing but good things, I never got around to visiting The Doctor Who Experience, and it's becoming an ever increasing regret. I very much share Matt's hope that there is at least some measure of accountability exacted of Davies and Kurtzman at the comic con, although I suspect strongly that the likelihood will be as reduced as possible. Fans invest heavily in their favourite shows and films, in terms of time and emotion, to say nothing of the fortunes spent by some on merchandise, and whether showrunners like to admit it or not, they have a responsibility to safeguard integrity; should they renege, the least they deserve is a few demanding questions. Char has proven her credentials, as both an invaluable panellist and knowledgeable fan, many times over, but it was still wonderful to hear her espouse the time-honoured litany of the classic Who fan, namely that enjoyment of classic stories can very often be entirely independent of the size of the budget. I do hope that, from time to time, she keeps us appraised of how that particular journey is going. Fully agree with Dan about how sublime a Doctor was Colin Baker and about being grateful to Big Finish for increasing awareness of this. Whilst there is a context for a comparison with Whittaker during her foray into audio, the major difference between the two actors remains that Baker approached the role with nothing but good intentions; not so Whittaker, with her anti-white male comments and entitled attitude, which served only to make ever more uphill the struggle to accept her in the role. Nevertheless, I greatly admire Will's more encompassing, fair-minded sentiments on the subject and, on a not unrelated note, look forward with almost unseemly fervour to the release of his own audio. Michelle Gomez and Jo Martin both nailed it. Big Finish might do for Jodie what they did for Colin Baker, so I'll reserve judgement for now.

Their biggest mistake was the forced gender woo. I was totally up for a female Doctor, but not one that came with a big lecture. All that "male gaze" stuff was total bullshit. Doctor Who wasn't that sort of show on the whole. If anyone introduced a glass ceiling it was Jodie and Chibbers.

Now that Chibnall is not at the helm surely this might give Jodie Whittaker abit of breathing space and give her a chance to be better as the Doctor than she was on-screen and give her some better written stories and developed her Doctor better and play it the same way when she did that covid message which was the only bit where she strikes to me atleast as the Doctor but who knows I have yet to wait to hear it I hope this will give her a chance to redeem herself just like Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy and Paul McGann did who I didn't like originally but big finish helped that and it has now made me appreciate Colin, Sylvester and Paul alot more I believe Jodie will do the same.

Great discussion. I’m wondering where all the extra Disney money is being spent? Even Jodie’s era looked better visually, regardless of what people think of the casting or writing it looked more impressive visually than what we have now. We need new people working on the show because RTD’s writing isn’t great and he’s repeating himself with certain plot lines and puzzle box themes. It feels stale to me sadly. If I was casting a female in the role I’d have cast Tilda Swinton. She’s unusual looking and good at playing strange outsiders. In the Snowpiercer movie I was impressed by her performance and didn’t even know it was her! I think Will is right about the way Jodie was written and yes Tilda would be great. I prefer the older Doctors. Great stream.

Great show as always everyone. Though I'm a proud geek, I'm a big football and cricket fan too.. Jodie is a decent actor, just completely wrong for The Doctor. If they were to gender swap again, though I hope they don't... The only two I could see pulling it off would be Tilda Swinton and Helena Bonham Carter.
