Fantastic video that hits the high points--In fact I am one of those with the nasal congestion for several years and I just decided to go ahead with a Septoplasy and expect to breath better while using my CPAP. I discovered that AFRIN works so well in shrinking my turbinoids which gave me the same clue that Dr Park discusses in this video. I have his book and it has been great to study and discuss with my doctor. Thanks for all your help!

I have sever sleep apnea and use CPAP but my nasal obstruction is so bad that I breath through my mouth. I have tried the experiment you shared and it helped a little but later found out that using the whole bottle was a bad idea. I have also tried saline nasal wash and it helps a little. I tried the chin strap but found it too hard to breath through my nose. Here is the thing, going to specialists is so expensive and I am not too keen on lots of surgery. Should I just get used to breathing through my mouth?

I absolutely hate this machine. Of the research I've done, so many people are "happy" with their cpap machines. To me, this is a life sentence of being strapped to the table next to the bed. Why are people satisfied with being on these for the rest of their lives? Isn't there any "cure"?

Better than a short life sentence of brain damage, brain fog, exhaustion, dementia, diabetes, stroke, heart attack… I’ll suffer the inconvenience and wake up feeling good and get on with my life.

CPAP has been a life-saver for millions of people, but not everyone can benefit, let alone be able to use CPAP. Like any medical treatment, people have varying responses. Fortunately, there are other options for treatment, but most of these only treat the problem, and can never cure sleep apnea. Only options that physically or structurally change the soft tissues (fat and tissues) or facial bones (braces, jaw surgery) can get you toward a "cure" but that almost never happens completely. In my book, Sleep, Interrupted, I talk about why this is the case. The good news is that there are proven steps you can take to improve CPAP use. Take a look at my book, Totally CPAP.

This article didn't even mention the Inspire method. And that' really too bad because it works really well.

I was overweight and had severe sleep apnea. I was prescribed a CPAP machine and told I would sleep better and lose weight. Indeed, I sleep much better BUT I have gained 30 pounds in 12 months. I can't do without the CPAP machine, even for a 10-minute nap. By doing 1 hour of sport (cardio training and resistance training) every day, and eating whole foods, I've managed to stabilize my weight and lose 4 pounds in one year, but no more. What's more, the overpressure (even when set to the minimum effective setting) is damaging my Eustachian tubes and I'm losing more hearing every day. It's pretty hopeless. I'm going to try nastents, but I'm not sure I can stand them... I'd really like to find the solution to really lose weight, I'm sure it would help me a lot to solve my problems. If anyone has experienced these problems and found a solution, I'd love to hear from you. Thanks Doctor!

I’ve been diagnosed with AFIb plus sleep apnea. I cannot use this bi-pap. I can only tolerate and hour at most then feel claustrophobic and rip it off in a panic. My heart will start racing and I get shortness of breath while breathing constantly thru CPAP mask then go into panic mode. I almost feel the BiPap use brings on the AFib event??? It’s an awful feeling. Medicare gives you 90 days to comply to a min of 4hrs/day or you pay for equipment. Looks like I have an expensive over priced machine to pay for in my future. I’ve tried my best and simply cannot comply.

Hi Doctor Park. How often is distraction osteogenesis or surgery done on patients like me who aren't debilitated but have mild obstructive sleep apnea and recessed facial features?

If CPAP makes you put on a little weight, move more!! Intermittent fasting, exercise and lowering carb consumption can help a lot. I’m not happy about being strapped to a machine but it’s better than brain damage!

Totally agree. All the additional steps you mentioned should be started for everyone who needs to use CPAP, regardless of how much you weigh.

Good to know that my weightgain was triggerered by the cpap machine. I already suspected it because I got more hungry. Now I started counting calories again and somehow this 'stomachitch' is gone and I hope to loose again. The pressure when breathing out was lowered when I complained about not able to breath . It's a lot better now but sometimes I breath out through my mouth for a little while anyway. Also got a anti allergy nosecap. 8I still have to put some fatty cream around my nose though because it still gets a bit red and uncomfortable. But I don't have much choice because of the bad headaches in the morning I had. I am living in The Netherlands, any surgery or injections will not be done for this as far as I know. There are excersices for strengthening your throat muscels. Perhaps that will be the solution, plus losing more weight....I really don't like to use this machine ...

Is it possible to need Septoplasty but then it no longer being necessary once jaw surgery (to fix recessed jaw) has been performed or can jaw surgery not resolve a septic deviation?

Steven. I appreciate your podcasts, but your messaging around CPAP is confusing. If I didn’t know any better, I would think you’re almost against CPAP. Is CPAP helpful or not??
