Compare that to the Gerry Anderson Space 1999 (of the same era) effects and you can see just how poorly funded Doctor Who was. Space 1999 effects led straight onto Star Wars and the great leap forward in special effects.

@@gentblue I would point out that for the most part Space 1999's effects didn't have to intergrate with life action much and when it did life action it was often just men in rubber suits

The effects budget wouldn't stretch to cover the explosive squibs and renting an actual tank. Sometimes, you gotta make choices... 😄

I'd rather the good stories with terrible effects, rather than the other way around.

So it's conceivable that the UNIT of Classic Dr.Who were seconded UK military, explaining why they had British Army pattern uniform, webbing and weapons (Although they did originally have a distinct and different uniform for their first few appearances)

@@user-rc2gy5ik5n I hope they do something with them too. I also hope for more spinoffs again during this new RTD era like he did with his last era. He kinda spawned a mini universe with Torchwood and Sarah Jane but then when RTD left Torchwood became awful and unfortunately the actress who played Sarah Jane died. The only Doctor Who spin off we had after that was a show called Class which was the most pointless spin off ever and sucked too. I hope they bring Torchwood back and maybe get a spin off with Jenny his clone daughter. The spin off I want to see the most though is a spin off with Susan cause I'm pretty sure she is alive out there some where and she hasn't been used at all which is just a missed oppertunity for some great stories.

No doubt wasn’t part of the script, but he says that as he places it back on the main body of the sonic, so idk what the point of that was. The lance part would be referring to the fact it can cut open the lock on the door like he did I guess.

I hope they have the sense to give the lad full creative control, a lot of people are worried that this is some sort of publicity stunt and that when he gets in, the BBC will just dictate to him what they want done and not give him any freedom. People speculate that's what happened to Chibnall but idk.

@@LoopyYTPlus I highly doubt the BBC would limit his creative control after his absolute success. Also, knowing RTD, if the BBC did choose to limit his control they'd get argued with a hell of a lot. And it isn't only the BBC working on this, it's Bad Wolf Productions as well, which is run by Julie Gardner.

It had one off story plot device power. There was once something called a Raston Warrior Robot, the most perfect killing machine in history, took cybermen apart like discount toys in The Five Doctors. Never seen again on television.

It's made of living metal. It uses energy to regenerate and grow. That's why when (spoilers) the disintegrator gun was used on it later on, it used the energy to grow to tremendous size.

Indeed, especially as they had Royal Navy cooperation for the Sea Devils episode, plus they could have borrowed from private collectors or museums such as Bovington - however the UNIT era of Classic Dr Who was all about budget hence being stuck on Earth and it wouldn't surprise me that for the limited planned screen time they just couldn't justify the spend.

The problem was that it just made the robot look massive.

@@mayotango1317 the Doctor was always a jerk to UNIT back in the 70’s. Mostly because they always attempted the guns blazing approach which usually ended up being useless and only got soldiers killed. But during Poison Sky, the Doctor stops berating UNIT and lets them get on with their thing because they show him that they’re now properly equipped to handle alien threats themselves.

@@EditedAF987 No, there was respect and camaraderie, they were called "UNIT Family" for a reason. Look more at the classics. The Tenth Doctor was a useless asshole, in the end UNIT did not need his help and he abandoned them in the middle of the battle.

Lol please only some had a problem with the female Doctor. That was never the issue it was that the show sucked for a lot of fans because Chibs. Everyone from all sides of the fandom wasn't enjoying it and the fanbase was split. If you like the Chibs era then great but for some of us it was stressful watching Chibs take on Doctor Who and the Timeless Child story killed most of our enjoyment for the show. It was like we were entering the Peter Davidson era all over again back in classic who when the show starting to decline in quality. RTD was most popular for a reason and it's because he had spinoffs and he had great writing with interesting stories. The main problem fans have is the writing and it hasn't been great since RTD. Sure Moffett had his moments but it wasn't great as a whole like RTD was. This move had to be done so ALL fans can be hyped for the show again and a lot of fans couldn't be happier and I bet you it's going to be good. I really thank Jay Exci because she did a great job of pushing the movement and having fans voices heard.

This is not about acceptance and different stories, this is about standards and quality . Chibnall touched two shows and managed to bring down both of them which says a lot. The first time there was no woman in charge so unfortunately you can't use misogynism as an excuse. The show is evolving backwards thanks to Chibnall , he can't write decent characters and stories so he manages to destroy everything the previous writers created. Moffat had some pretty messed up moments , whole areas in fact but at least he was very carefull with what other show runners have done because he respected their work. He even said that in the 50th anniversary his main worry was to bring Gallifrey back without ruining the backround RTD has created. Be thankfull that Russel is returning because now Jodie can have an actual chance to prove herself in the anniversary ep. He was the one that expanded the Doctor who universe like no one else while Chibnall is responsible for the end of Torcwood and the downfall of the show. He hasn't started yet and BBC studios are already partnering with Bad Wolf to produce when the time comes.
