‘There will be other meetings … in another time.’ *58 Years later*

As someone who hasn’t watched all the old Doctor who episodes, this was a good way to show a bit about the toymaker and how things ended between the two of them

RIP William Hartnell (January 8, 1908 - April 23, 1975), aged 67 RIP Michael Gough (November 23, 1916 - March 17, 2011), aged 94 RIP Jackie Lane (July 10, 1941 - June 7, 2021), aged 79 You will be remembered as legends.

This should 100% just be in the opening of the 60th anniversary. It'd pay fantastic homage to the first and original doctor and be a great way to introduce the threat of the toymaker. Even out of context this scene is amazing.

Michael Gough - What an incredible actor, known for this plus his character in Arc of Infinity with the Fifth Doctor, and outside Doctor Who playing Alfred in the Tim Burton BATMAN films God rest his soul

An enemy who faced the Doctor’s first incarnation at an equal level and he’ll be coming back, wanting to beat The Doctor and win the game by any means. Toymaker truly is a terrifying god-like entity.

I love the serial's focus on the trilogic game and the fact that the 60th is gonna be three specials.

Mr Hartnel was such a an amazing actor. He set the bar high for the others to follow.

i remember watching this as a child, the toymaker episodes were magical. i would have been 6 years old but it was burned into my memory.

It's brilliant it's been confirmed the toymaker is back and for the 60th! Very fitting, they're a great villain really looking forward to their interaction after all this time! 💙

To be honest we Need more hartnell villains to return, Only had Cybermen and daleks now we got toymaker.

Michael Gough was supposed to come back for this part, when Colin Baker was the Doctor. Lousy Michael Grade and his hiatus put an end to that. Still, itll be interesting to see the new take for the 60th.

Michael Gough was excellent as the Toymaker. I first saw him as Alfred, but I also enjoy performances in Horror of Dracula and Konga.

Hartnell is my favourite classic doctor, He always retained a quiet dignity (even when acting over the top) and was just so very alien.

The other episodes are still 'lost', but this final one remains, on a set called "Lost in Time" on DVD. Nice to see William Hartnell, Michael Gough, Peter Purves and Jackie Lane one more time from 1966.

The one who waits… who else is super excited to see the Toymaker come back? 😄

As someone who never watched old Who, it's so amazing to me that despite decades apart, drastically different filmaking styles and techniques, the Doctor still feall like the same character

If they started The Giggle with a brief pre-credits excerpt from the end of this scene, that’d be class

Kudos to the companion that was willing to sacrifice his life. Thinking about how many companions, in particular in the renewed series, suffered fates worse than death, it's truly remarkable.

Neil Patrick Harris the new Toymaker and Michael Gough the orignal Toymaker both played Batman characters. Gough played Alfred in Batman (1989), Batman Returns (1992), Batman Forever (1995) and Batman & Robin (1997). NPH voiced the Music Meister in the incredible Batman the Brave and The Bold animated series

Insane how all of this is about to pay off fifty eight years later.

Sad that 3 of the 4 episodes are missing. Maybe they'll be animated one day.

Love how they posted this to let fans who may be unfamiliar with the character to know who he is. Believe also that a couple of scenes/episodes of this serial were lost, but it’s been a while since I’ve seen it

I wonder if this is how it will go down with the Toymaker in the special - if the Toymaker loses, then the Doctor has to pay a price for his victory What if it turns out that it's because of the Toymaker that Donna can remember the Doctor without dying? Therefore defeating the Toymaker will kill Donna... but if the Toymaker wins, then Earth is destroyed

It was the third 60th Anniversary special that made me want to come check out the original incarnation of the Toymaker. Apparently he was supposed return in season 23, the final season with the Sixth Doctor twenty years later. But in the end the u produced that serial.

Just watched this story for the first time and I thought this scene was so interesting. I can't wait to see what Russel will do with the toymaker, I feel there's a lot of potential with the toy room concept

Their animating this using the original audio I’m really looking forward to it. I’m glad they’re restoring these lost episodes. I love classic and new Doctor Who. It’s gotten me through some dark times. Tubi has all the classic and some of the animated, restore episodes for free.

When Doctor Who took itself more seriously. I was six years old when I watched this. I have not seen it since but I still vividly remember it.

Michael Gough as the Toymaker was interesting to see. I only knew of this actor as Alfred from the Batman movies before Michael Caine took the role in Batman Begins. The Celestial Toymaker could fly circles around the Joker before that clown could get a single bad joke out.

I just realized, the Toymaker is also Alfred from the '89 BATMAN movie; Michael Gough.

Yet the Toymaker gets the last laugh as he gives The Doctor a toothache forcing him to go to the O.K. Corrall to visit a dentist!!!! 😂

And they set up a sequel that happened 57 years later.

such a shame that most of this story is missing, hopefully one day the animation team can do their magic and bring the missing parts back to life.

That ending gives me goosebumps! I'm my mind all I'm thinking is "The Toymaker will RETURN in The Star Beast"

As I've gone through the episodes of the story (I only have episode 4 left) it has been great and the toymaker has been very intimidating and its also moments like these that make the first doctor my favourite doctor. He has so much charm and is very understanding with a lot of wisdom. Plus he has moments where you cant help but smile. However when he needs to be stern he will be. Its a shame Hartnell is no longer with us as even with as sick as he was it would be nice to see him one more time even if its just a few words and not even in character. Edit: I've watched episode 4 now and it was so good. The intensity was high even if knowing The Doctor, Dodo and Steven would survive and win. Cyril was also intimidating, chaotic, fun and childish but in a good way all at the same time. Throughout the entire story I had known about this slip and so I was very confused on how The Toymaker was playing if he wasn't and it wasn't until I was watching episode 4 I realised so for those also confused I'll explain it here: Basically The Toymaker is commanding the pieces to move with as many moves as he commands (of course not all 1023 given that would be cheating) however he is only commanding the pieces to move for a certain amount moves the pieces are automated to play the game to perfection upon hearing his voice command. So he isn't playing, the pieces are playing for him he's just telling the pieces how many moves to do and the pieces do the rest. That's how The Doctor wins because with his good enough impression of The Toymaker (like for real I wonder if it was actually Hartnell doing it or if it was Michael given it was extremely close but you could tell to an extent that it was The Doctor speaking) he is able to make the pieces automate. (The Toymakers commands go along the lines of "Go to move (insert amount of moves here)." So for those that are confused on that that is why. The Doctor did the same command line.) Overall I really enjoyed this story and I highly suggest watching the recons and the surviving episode to catch up on The Toymaker or even just for a great but intensifying story. And who knows you may even want to watch it once the 60th specials come out. (Please do The Toymaker justice. There have been many instances in recent television where characters have had there personality's messed up.)

The battle, as it seems, really will never end.

i can imagine the Doctor Having the exact same power as the Celestial Toymaker But using it to save the universe with it, he'd be on the same level as the master but with the old saying *"With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility"*

I've been watching Hartnell's Doctor for the first time lately and he's great- I think he could end up being one of my favorites.

I wish to see at the beginning of ,,The Giggle" episode similar "Previously on" intro such as the one in Twice Upon a Time... That would be amazing!

After his defeat, the Toymaker decided he needed to learn some humility. So he went a small corner of Existence and created a world where he played manservant to various iterations of what he must have considered a silly vigilante. Now, having had his fill, he's rested and ready for his rematch with the Doctor. (Actually, it would be nice if the DW 60th gives us some sort of Easter Egg like that. 😉🤔🙂👍)

I had no idea that was Michael Gough who played the Toymaker. I'm most familiar with him playing Alfred Pennyworth in the Batman movies directed by Tim Burton and Joel Schumacher. But now, by the laws of the universe, Neil Patrick Harris (who played the Toymaker in "The Giggle") needs to play a version of Alfred in a new version of Batman 20 years from now, just like Michael Gough did! 😂

Hartnell's giggle is something else, what a lovely man

I really liked the old Black and White Dr. Who! For such a simple, low budget filming, you still had all the imagination and special effects potential! My favorites were the orginal Dalek stories!

I have to watch this episode. Just saw the 3rd Special and I find this villain as equally scary if not more than the Daleks, Cybermen, Zygons, and Sontarans.

I like how the 1st Doctor is unsure that the Toymaker will return or not and he does a dozen of regenerations later.
