Nobody was called a Christian in the time of Jesus. It was a derogatory term used by Romans later on. Jesus never used that term. Modern Christianity is based on the teaching of Paul - who never even met Jesus! Jesus would never eat pork or anything not kosher. Point is he followed the commandments.

As a born again Christian, I consider myself more spiritual than religious. I don't agree with politicizing religion. I am not a fan of modern Christianity in the US so was hoping things would be better overseas. The most important aspect of my spiritual walk is relationship with Christ as opposed to religious customs. God looks at the heart, going to church will not send you to heaven. You must love one another and operate in faith.

Bahador Alast It's not about superiority bro, but about a very important question of life that is what about life after death. The reason behind existence of life and purpose of life. Christianity gives that answer very eloquently. What would you do if you see danger in front of a stranger, wouldn't you try to inform? Christianity does the same think and people misunderstands it. Christianity is not after some culture, it's after saving souls. Culture will be invalid after you die, why run after it?

Rock man Religion is absolute horseshit! All religions are nothing but man-made fairytales for brainwashed, weak-minded, dumb freaks of society because they can't come to terms with the fact that there is no God. Their lives suck so much that they convince themselves with the biggest lie ever, that there is some other life after this.

Going to Church will not send you to heaven? God tells us t9 closely follow The Ten Commandments and the Commandment “Keep the Sabbath Day Holy”, means we must worship and praise God atleast on His Sabbath Day as a community. Christianity is not harmful, evil or bad, it can be a force of good, love and strength but people can use Christianity the wrong way and make it bad. Doesn't mean the religion is bad, PEOPLE can distort it and bend it to their ideologies and make it bad. And it's not just Christianity, every religion is like that as well. Nice documentary. Really interesting and well done. I think that Korea's problem with Christianity is also something that is happening in the USA. A lot of churches emphasize money and trying to gain the most converts to get more money, instead of worshipping God and loving others. You see this with the megachurches and millionaire preachers.
@Surftouka
@Surftouka 10 ай бұрын
Bigger problem is some of these millionaire preachers/tv evangelists aren't even teaching the Bible correctly and misleading so many. I read at one point Joel Olsteen said the congregation doesn't need to read the Bible. To me that's a red flag that says walk out right now. We're to trust God and not man but God's word does tell us about the many wolves in sheep's clothing so just pray for discernment so that we don't fall for the wolves.

After watching this documentary and reading a few comments, i feel like a lot of people here have portrayed Christianity the wrong way. Christianity is more then just believing in God and getting others involved to become Christians. To define yourself as a Christian you have to accept God as your Creator and his son JESUS as your Saviour and that's a free will granted to us by God himself and should not be forced upon anyone, especially if there is no sincerity. It is easy for people to call themselves Christians, but it isn't easy trying to live like one, (after all we're only human) God knows that. To call yourself a Christian, you have to TRULY accept God in your life, and be committed to his way of living. Trust me, I use to questions Gods existence a lot, but that's beginning to change for me, after i started reading his scriptures. If people just took the time to read the scriptures of the HOLY BIBLE, their eyes will awake to various answers that they are seeking about life (such as your purpose and why things happen) and their understanding will become so much clearer. Trust me, do not test God, do not get angry over things you pray for and were not answered, because he may have answered your prayers, but you were not looking hard enough (now see, that's when Gods testing your faith), because a lot of people tend to turn to him only when times get rough, but then give up on him when they think he doesn't do anything (read the BIBLE and you'll understand why this happens). Just so you guys could know, you don't have to go church to be considered a Christian, It is about acceptance like i said before and developing a positive relationship with Jesus and God, because the sincerity in YOU is what's important and through Christ you will find God, who is Love and Peace. P.s I'm glad South Korea has accepted Christianity in their country, i just hope that their understanding of Christianity becomes clearer. Anyways no ones perfect, but their is a perfect God. So God bless you all

***** Who said you need to respect religion? it's your choice, you respect who ever you want to respect, FREE WILL, I'm sure you've heard of it. Oh well, If you think religion is all fairy tales and so called "bullshit", that's totally up to you. Either way, I respect your opinion and I'm not saying that for any respect in return, since it won't matter, because RESPECT is for those who have common sense and respect others for who they are as individuals, not their religion, skin colour or ethnicity. Anyways, God be with you.

+Roxann Pua I'm at this video by accident??? ナイス・コメント! Nice comment regarding Christianity, If you are curious where the 日本語 Japanese language came from, it just may from the strict adherance to the Bible (大本, big book is what I call it), that so many 'Christians' may fail to realize origins, thereof. Roman Catholic I am, was, & shall Always BE. I know the 'cult of Christ', seemingly Buddha-like, and 600 years later was Mohammed. The 3rd prophet of MONOTHEISM. Good preaching by all でも世界は, but our World is not ever ready for such radical ideas. Personally, I Love (大好き) the Virgin Mary, aka Maya, Isis, QuanYin, とAmaterasu (天照) . In fact, at about 7th centaury AD, the first Christians in Korea were also Syrian Orthodox Christians. Armenian missionaries traveled across Central Asia with Turkish caravans to spread the word. Unfortunately, that linage did not continue in Korea.

I think is kind of "funny or sad" how you chose a bunch of nonbelievers of Christianity to represent and speak on behalf of the Christian growth in Korea. It would be fair for you to also ask or interview some real Christians while you're at it (don't you think?) and not just get the critiques of people who are from other religions obviously they are jealous of the success Christianity is having in South Korea. Why don't you ask them how Jesus has and is transforming there lives? and why they are following Jesus? and asked them about how the money they are donating are being used? (obiously a great portion of it is being used to let others world wide know about Jesus to receive forgiveness of there sins and obtain Eternal Life.

Well, the Holy Trinity, actually, is not difficult to understand or comprehend! GOD created Life and The World - God is all powerful and He can do any act and he is limitless (infinite) Humans GOD created - humans are limited What GOD has done in The Holy Trinity is to devise a way by which humans can know Him which, humans with their limitations can understand! To say: God The Son and The Holy Spirit is not to mean that God is made with the other 2 but, that, for humans GOD sent to The World His strength to hep humans and sent them His strength in a way in a human way as GOD is that complex that they would otherwise not understand! - GOD Himself is not made from 3 different parts but He has given human beings 3 different ways which, combined, prove The one True God!

Christianity is not a mental illness. Jesus is real no matter what anyone may say about God, but unbelievers should never be forced to come church becuase either you serve Jesus or not. Regardless of anything, so athiests and other religions can diss God but once you come into the prescence of Jesus (truly) you won't be the same. Not bashing anyone but many christians have the wrong idea on how to serve God.

+Zay Bro You said, "unbelievers should never be forced to come church", but that is not how it is in Korea. Evangelical Christians a.k.a. "Protestants" in Korea are very arrogant, aggressive, brazen and hostile towards other religious groups. They are not even afraid of vandalizing properties of other religious establishments and yet, they have no sense of shame. I am Korean-American living in Los Angeles by the way. Korean evangelical Christians here in U.S. are not different at all. One day, I stopped by the gas station during busy morning commute. All of sudden, an elderly Korean Christian woman with a vest and a picket sign stating "Jesus = Heaven, No Jesus = Hell" approached to me and tried to convince me to accept Jesus as my savior and come to her church. I've expressed my discomfort and gently refused. Then this crazy woman said, "tsk, tsk, you poor soul. Have fun in hell". What the fuck? I've never asked her to sympathize me! If it's Christians' obligation to evangelize others because it's Jesus' divine order to spread his words so called "gospel", it's their own problem. They MUST (not should) leave those people alone who decided to have no religious affiliation, stop talking shit or criticizing about other religious groups, stop seeing everything in their religious point of view and expect the whole world to change in their religious way.

+김관수 That's not completely true. The constitution of Korea guarantees freedom of religion, but most Korean evangelical christians a.k.a "protestants" have no respect for other religious groups and non-believers. Their religious obligation surpasses country's highest law. How do I know? That's because I am Korean. Korean evangelical christians were always like that when I was in Korea and they are not different at all here in U.S.. If it's christians' duty to evangelize others because it's Jesus' divine order to spread his words so called "gospel", it's their own problem. They MUST (not should) leave those people alone who decided to have no religious affiliation, stop talking shit or criticizing about other religious groups, stop seeing everything in their religious point of view and expect the whole world to change in their religious way.

It's a humble experience that I met Protestant Korean Christians who have gave up their life for Jesus by preaching the gospel all over the world. It is sad that people in Korean are offended and annoyed about salvation work of Jesus. And ignorant about what kind of life they gave up for the gospel.I am so blessed with the life of these Korean Christians because they obey God to preach the gospel as what God commanded in the Bible which is the very word of God.

I just see this video because I'm curios about Christianity in Korea and I find this quite interesting, both the video and people who watch this and comment. I see a lot of people argue about Holy Trinity is not make sense or something. Actually Holy Trinity is pretty simple yet difficult to understand, if you use your logic, a.k.a human's limited brain. That's why there is faith in life, whether people believe in it or not. This Godly thing is not what human's brain can absorb, that's why God tell human to have faith, so human can believe in things that human brain can't understand. You have to use both logic and faith, but you have to have faith more if you want to understand about this religion things.

This is what happens when religion is not spread naturally but with the help of political backing to serve some anti-national purpose. The main religions and the only religions to do this are Christianity and Islam. They create religious conflict wherever they spread. South Korea should be glad the other religion there is a pacifist and non proselytising one like Buddhism. If it was Islam which is similar to Christianity in their objective, you would have two parts of South Korea by now.

I think that the biggest problem that non-Christian-Koreans have with the church in Korea is that it is growing. Is there bad happening in Korea among the churches? Yes I'm sure there is, however, I don't think that's why non-Christian-Koreans don't like Christianity there in Korea.I also strongly feel that because my Christian brothers and sisters in Korea are so passionate about spreading the Gospel truth to the world it makes them hated. To my Christian brothers and sisters in Korea keep up the good work. Also know that the best way to preach the Gospel is living a Godly life and loving others. Be gentle with those who do not yet believe so you don't scare them and pray for the unsaved. Don't stop preaching and keep up your passion. :)

oh people you do not know a single word of the living God's will and yet you give your opinions on what "Christianity" should be or not, but in the end none knows nothing. He is the Way, the Thruth and Life, no one goes to God the Father but through him, for He as living flesh carried our sins and took upon himself the punishment for our sins so that the Almighty God with its perfect justice wouldn't bring his punishment for our sins on us, he reconciled us with the Father and cleansed us with his blood so that we can be called righteous for Him through Him, we were all fallen from his glory, from his presence, because we were evil in nature for our sin, but He loved us so much that gave himself as an propitious lamb to die instead of us. His name is Yeshua ha mashiach, Jesus the Christ, or Iesu as some call Him. Through Him those who believe in him can be called, not "christians", but sons of God. Isaiah 53, John 1. God our Father bless you all with his spirit so you can understand the matters of the spirit. May the peace of the Lord be with you.

I very much like what that last guy said. It's sad to see the Christian right expand its influence in South Korea. If only it was a liberal branch of Christianity & kept private instead of having the need to proselytize and convert people to a very backwards and fundamentalistic version of it. I don't understand why they can't just leave South Korea alone being a Buddhist, Atheist, or Non-believer country. Why don't they tell Koreans about how Christianity is struggling in the West instead of making it seem like some grandiose gift that everyone is enjoying over here, and South Korea should join in on the fun too! Anyways, awesome job putting this video together for us Bahador!

If a Christian isn't proselytizing in some form it is doubtful they take their faith seriously. The part on greed is only part true. There are people who take advantage of people all the time in all religions. BUT to refer the Christians in korea as "extremist" is stupid. Fundamentalism is another word for traditionalism (meaning true Biblical Christianity).

As a Native American follower of Christ, I see tons of similarities especially between tribes & Asian countries. We have a similar societal aversion to Christianity. The love of Money taints what originally could’ve been used for good. There will always be wolves in sheep’s clothing, no matter where on the globe they’re located. The wolves claim to know God but don’t follow him. It sends mixed msgs to those living in the world, who’ve lived their whole lives being knocked around by life. They can’t tell true followers from the fake ones. But Eventually these wolves will call out to God in death. Gods reply: Depart from me, for I never knew you. They’ll say didn’t I do this, didn’t I attend church, I made all this cash in your name, aren’t you proud? That’s not what he’s looking for. He said: They shall know you by your fruit. Now love one another as I have loved you. The Warped prosperity gospel in Christianity isn’t only a Korean issue, as we all know. The numbers of these kinds of “Christians” well outweigh the true believers. True Sons & daughters of Christ are entirely different. They walk through each moment holding his hand. Its a moment by moment relationship, the process of walking with him, treating others as he would. It’s not about getting a ticket into heaven but living a new life, free of all anger, fear & regret. The holy spirit in-dwelt Christians are those who are interested in keeping his commandments. They do it out of love, for who he is & what he’s already done. There is no greater feeling than introducing Jesus to a curious person. It’s like speaking to the old version of yourself, broken, sad & lost, & showing them that God is willing to help with all of that mess & make you whole. No one truly serving Jesus would ever think to do it for money or threaten anyone else to follow God “or else”. Fear isn’t a sustainable motivator. Just live & others will eventually wonder (and hopefully ask) what creates the light, love and forgiving nature inside you. This takes time. Nothing is achieved by force or arguments. That’s not the way Jesus works. We’re broken messes usually. We make the mistakes to prove it. It’s in him we’re made effective if we lovingly respond to those around us. Apart from him we can do Nothing. So, it’s not us. It’s him working through a willing heart. I’m Continually praying for Native American people, (the culture I was born into) as well as countries all over the planet, who know OF him but don’t KNOW him in the transformative sense. It’s funny, I used to be such an antiChristian person in my youth. But, God chooses who he will to deliver his msg to the people around each of us. Sometimes those most opposed to Jesus can be transformed & used by him. Look at Paul. For one to hate God, somewhere deep down they feel that the possibility of it being true as too terrifying to face. Most have been hurt often by people they’re terrified of the possibility of his existence. Like a child whose father hadn’t been there, who will say they don’t have one. It’s a defense. They’re hurt, pray for God to show himself to them, believe they’ll get it, maybe not now but His timing is perfect. So don’t grow weary in reaching out & allowing Christ to use you. Best decision I ever made. Much love & prayers to all who need it. There is hope through him. I looked everywhere for Truth and in the end I found he’s been with me the whole time. He’s the coolest! Hands down!

Edit: Sorry this post turned out a bit long. I have an unexpected and unexplainable love for South Korea, the culture and people! Christianity has been perverted by the enemy to so many people in so many places. The enemy (satan and the fallen) uses horrible people to seem to join Christianity and still do horrible things and this makes all of Christianity look bad! It's a trick! To try to keep people from coming to The Lord and being saved. Those people who are trying to take your money and force you to go to the church building and tearing up public property and doing anything "bad" are not Christians! Not true Christians. I am a true Christian. I love everyone no matter what. My Lord commanded us to love our neighbor and everyone on earth is our neighbor! So no matter who you are or where you are I love you! I'll help you any way I can. I just have come to know the truth and facts through my personal relationship with Him. And I don't want anything bad to ever happen to you. That includes after this life! So as a true Christian I will warn you about the debt, burden and consequences of the sins any of you have fallen in love with. Not judge. I'm also told not to judge. I just warn and inform. You listen to your heart for The Call from The Lord and I beg you to say Yes! I really do love South Korea and I would love to go there to help as a true missionary for The Lord. Actually I want to move to South Korea anyway. I want to go and meet the most beautiful woman and both of us fall so deep in love we both glow! Then start a wonderful family for The Lord. These people need a true explanation of how to be saved... Believe! Believe that God is! Believe that Jesus is the son of God. That he died for our sins. That he resurrected. That's it! That's all! Do this truly believing that this is all true and you're saved! Then if you really believed it you will live the rest of your life based off this truth and come to love Him and obey His commandments. I truly hope to see you all in Heaven. Hope this helps. I love you all!

As born again Christians, we are asked to share the Word, the Gospel and our loving relationship with Him. It's sad knowing that a lot of Christianity in Korea is corrupted, but I pray that there are some who really understand that it isn't political or a religion but it is a way of life after the gift of salvation from Christ.

I am confused, they say that Christians in Korea are only focused on money. The only example they gave was politicians raising money. Politicians can not be the only Christians they are talking about. Then there was the kidnapping and forced conviege charge. The guy said that everyone has been kidnapped once and taken to church. I am amazed that this didn't make the film maker ask other people if the had that happen to them. It seems so crazy. This reminds me of when Russia though out Baptist calling them cannibals for taking communion.

As a Messianic Jew I can say perhaps some Korean converts to Christianity may become zealous or perhaps insistent in telling other Koreans to come to church,such that Koreans feel coerced towards attending church and don’t like it. Christians who frown ,dislike Buddhist idols it is because we are commanded by GOD that we should have no other gods before us because HE is a jealous GOD. In our history GOD destroyed even the Jews who worship idols when He gave us the Law. But GOD is coming and He will destroy all false religions from the earth, including Buddhist, Islam, Hindu and others, because GOD tells us, let them do as they will He will come with great power and mighty angels to show all the world He is GOD

It's all about commitment and relationship to God..I really can't understand why religions have different stories and I can't believe that some religions thinks that God is a pig.People should pray to God not to a pig or a stone, statue .I really hope all the people in the world will be saved but how can they be saved when they don't believe ,how can they be saved if the things there doing is wrong.It's not because you can not see it you won't believe it, it is all about faith.I am a Christian and I'm watching this video because I'm curious of the church where Park Bogum attends to

in the beginning, the earth with no form of life was under the ocean. and the land appeared and produced all kinds of plants. and the ocean, the air and the earth produced all kinds of animal life. then the lord formed the man's body and breathed into it a spirit. see, i have given you seed bearing plant and the fruit that has its seed in it for food. and at the center of the guarden of eden, the lord planted the tree of life and the tree of knowledge beside it. and he commanded the man, you may eat of any fruit except the fruit of knowledge, if you do you will die. and the lord blessed the seventh day and declared it holy because he ceased his work of creation. Adam obeyed and did not touch the tree of knowledge until the woman was born. but why didn't he eat the fruit of life? he must have thought, surely the lord is expecting me to eat the fruit of life, that is why he planted it in the middle.

I think that the Christian Koreans in South Korea should contribute and fervently work towards the eradication of the dog and cat flesh trade instead of preaching their religion. This (preaching) has made many Koreans unhappy. Also, many international organisations such as PETA and other similar groups are fighting to end the menace of dog flesh trade in this country. That's why Korea is considered one of the cruelest nations in the world after their neighbour China. Christians in this country can do a lot to influence their government to end this cruel practice.

It's so awkward listening to Koreans try to speak English. The two languages couldn't be further apart and it's so difficult even for those who seem to know most of the vocabulary. I remember trying to learn Korean. The alphabet and vocabulary isn't that hard, but when it comes to actually speaking it, I found it extremely difficult.

I keep reading good influences. Sure they brought good influences but never without an objective. In the words of Desmond Tutu "When the missionaries came to Africa they had the Bible and we had the land. They said 'Let us pray.' We closed our eyes. When we opened them we had the Bible and they had the land."

I heard there's a decline in all religions. Why not go back to what worked in the past: Helping people. I think all churches would benefit from this. I'm talking about there being real world benefits to belonging to a church. Any group benefits the members by being a support network. Preachers need to teach the members to be supportive of one another. They need to sacrifice for one another and go out of their way. Bending over backwards, going the extra mile. Especially for those who are really in need. Even the fringe members. The casual attenders need to be treated the best sometimes because they are probably the ones with the most need. This is how you help your community. It's not by food drives or picking a school to give loaded backpacks to. It's by helping those first time attenders. That's how you reach the community. Form strong relationships with them. They are the little ones Jesus talked about. The first shall be last and the last first.

Hehe! I'm sure that's not the only difference but I do see your point. Creating schisms based on beliefs is not new (I know) everyone kind of wants to be right in some way after all. The statement I made was a message of hope. I'm calling out both 'christians' and 'atheists' to look pass the institution we correspond to, and focus on understanding each other. At the end of the day, we are human first.

We believe that homosexuality is a sin because God says so. There are many other things that God calls sin. But the fact that we believe those things does not mean we hate. I mean who are we to dare hating people? Sin is common to all of us. We all need Jesus because we all are far from God. Disagreeing has nothing to do with hate. Loving has nothing to do with agreeing in everything. As Christians we are commanded to love people because we were love first by God. Bless.
