Even though I'm from the US, and I, as a woman, enjoy the freedoms we have here, if the girls there are happy, I don't think I have the right to judge their culture.

The gypsy / Roma people are descendent from a region in India. A few centuries ago they started travelling west. They settled in many countries around Europe and the rest of the world, but they don't mix or integrate with the local population, they keep within their own communities and preserve their own traditions and ethnicity. They don't follow the laws of the country they live in either. They are separate from the rest of society.

The idea of a so called 'bride market' could/would be a kinda funny 'new' type of blind dating for peoples in the 'western market'. :D Just 'delate' the part parent where around too, place it on an open 'festival' ground with maybe some foodtruck, music and such kind of stuff and to take part in you buy a ticket (maybe 3 different price categories, on hightes food is inclusive to price ect.) like a normal festival. Would be kinda nice in my oppinion even at first it may sounds 'weired'. But 'everyone' taking part in there would know why the others are there too. All would be single and in serch of a 'partner' by meeting new peoples even seeing them for the first time.^^ By the way it's maybe another trying to fight against the demografic problem western europe has by downfall in marriages and births over the last decades. :) Hmm... maybe that idea isn't so bad at all like I though i first place... :D (to be clear: I had the idea FIRST, patent is on it's way ;P, seeing a similar type of even I'll send lots and lots of lawyers to the initiators, ok... :] )

The most of the comments on here are pure stupidity. We can't judge another group's culture based on our culture's values. Obviously the bride market works for these people or else they would not allow it. The women get to choose their husbands. It may not look like they do, but they do. They just don't get sold to the highest bidder. If the man the bids the highest does not meet the girl's standard's, she does not marry him. The bride market has helped their small community to continue on instead of vanishing. There are only 18K of Roma of this particular clan in Bulgaria.

Here in the United States, American people are often devalued. Television, music and internet deliver such high doses of immorality, that Americans do not even have a chance of making an informed decision about their own chastity. In fact, virgins are sometimes made fun of in the United States--Pretty sad indeed. As an American it saddens me that US colleges serve alcohol on campus, professors are free to date students and immortality is taught as normal. Americans judge each other based on economic status especially. American men and women select their marriage mates often based on economic backgrounds--not love. If a man does not have enough money or earning potential and a woman is very pretty, chances are, she would never date him--Pretty sad. I love the fact that in the video, the people are at least trying to preserve their culture, where as here in America, the traditional American culture and even religion are practically shunned upon. ...but Americans were taught that this is right, so it must be right.

I constantly hear people condemning this but all I see are people enjoying them selves. The young women all have big smiles on their faces and are talking with each other, laughing and having a good time. Contrast that with any liberal gathering of people and women in the USA where all you see are angry faces. I'll admit that the idea of marrying only into one's small gene pool seems a bit dangerous to me. Also, it would be cool if these girls could, if the opportunity arose, marry outside the Roma race. Some actually do break away and marry outsiders. The big thing that would really bother and scare me is if they allowed outsider men into this. I envision a bunch of old American men there bidding on what amounts to young girls. That would really be sick and should NEVER happen. So it should be limited to just the Roma. I still remember older American men jerking around in the Ukraine on these sick dating holidays fooling around with girls half their age. Not cool.
