If any of you were curious as to why the lights were flashing on the Trailer Brake is because the lights were LED and are out of sync with the Shutter speed of the camera (The Electrical Frequency doesn't align with the Shutter speed), and so they flicker instead of being solid.

Nice swap! Lights blink on your brake controller because the camera actually scans frames, the led’s actually are blinking really fast because the digital controller is actually turning them on and off. Human eyes don’t see that, it’s called persistence of vision. All digital controlled displays typically “scan” as the controller lights that segment or light at a rate faster than you can see so you never notice really.

Wanted to do this a while back with my f450. If I were to cut out the floor instead of a body lift how badly would it effect the interior? The truck is a single cab bench seat and adding that big of a tunnel seems like it would cause a lot of issues.

@@jagersgarage490 The main issue is that going up hills (i tow with overdrive off) it seems like my rpms are slipping up and my speed is slightly going to sown which makes me worry my torque converter is slipping from the load. from what I know, I have one of the 46 model transmissions and 3rd is supposed to lock but i never really found out for sure. as for the bell housing, did you have to have yours made or did you just find one that allowed you to put the combination you have together? it seems so unlikely you could find any part to plug and play those two parts.

How’s the mileage? Have you noticed any major benefits accelerating from a stop and at cruising while towing say a 10k load? How is the u joint life on the rear end? What size bell housing did you use?
@jagersgarage490
@jagersgarage490 3 жыл бұрын
Mileage has not changed from befor the swap. It is easier to get the load moving. The biggest benefit is hills/mountains. With the 5 speed if I hadto slow down on or at the base of a grade with a load I may have been stuck in 2 or 3rd because the gear speed was to wide with the 10. Speed I don't have that problem. I have had mine done for about 5 years and have yet to have an issue with the u-joints but I only put about 5-8k miles on it a year. I used an SAE #2 flywheel housing and bell housing.

Could you effectively run a longer rear gear to move the trans gears up in the driving range? Basically make the lower gears more usable speed wise and the higher gears more usable for of reasons to drop the high way RPM but still keep the TQ benefit of the 10spd.
@jagersgarage490
@jagersgarage490 2 жыл бұрын
You could do that. Where I live 65 is the highest speed limit so I have no need to go over 70. The first gear in the 10 speed is 10:1 or 13:1 the 5 speed is 5ish:1 so you could go higher in the rear for more top speed or to bring rpm down for better mileage.

If you can find a transmission that has an external shift cylinder than you could possibly find a vacum chamber that you can modify to work. You would need a large chamber to have enough force and the shift may be slow.

I have a 2004 dodge ram 2500 quad cab. 5.9 Cummins 48re auto I want to go to the Eaton 10 speed. From the way it was designed it looks like the swap will be simple I'll need to add a clutch and a few things but the trans tunnel on these 3rd gens are huge my only thought is it may not have the room for as high up as the trans needs to set. But we'll address it as I get into it I'm tired of auto trans that don't hold up to the Cummins torque plus I pull a lot of weight why not have a dependable trans to do the job.
@jagersgarage490
@jagersgarage490 2 ай бұрын
The 2001 I put a sae #2 housing in had more room around the flywheel housing. But the 10 speed is very wide so you would need to reshape the transmission tunnel or body lift.
@joesalazar770
@joesalazar770 2 ай бұрын
I wondered about that for now I have a reman 48re it's working better than any so far. We'll see. But I was measuring and your right on the 20 it's got more than 38" in three or four spots. So I think cut it and reweld a new plate. So it fits nicely you would defanatly never ever have to put another clutch or trans in. Though on my old 96 KW I did break a direct shaft running over 850 horse and 2900 pounds of torque but was pulling a full load. 😂 All in fun plus the older designed 18 speed. So it was a 6x4 with a 6 behing it essentially give u about 40 gears. As u can split gears with most Eaton's. Depends.
@joesalazar770
@joesalazar770 2 ай бұрын
That looks really good and I think the 2004 has much more room between the frame rails and the length would be there I like the unmarried t case as well. And the shear size makes that whole unit much stronger. U won't go fast from shift to shift but you will be able to pull a much bigger load tire weight ratings are all that will stop that at this point and 19.5 s will solve that. Or 22. Inch. I may just get another 2004 to 08 to do this I have moded a f10p a jeep wrangler and several others there nothing that cannot be done. And the cost of doing it is all that dictates the build. A semi tractor is a good base but they cost a lot of money to get something that has not got a million miles on it. We'll see how it all goes.

So the 10 speed has overdrive? I'm just worried if I do this conversion I will run out of range in my RPM's before I get to highway speed.

That wine is unbearable for me. I'd plan on having a 2 speed diff instead of a 10 speed in my 1st gen when i get it. Its cool though

A newer version of the transmission would not wine as much... if I had know how bad I would have gone with a 6610 or something else.

The 6610 also has straight cut gears but the teeth are smaller/more on each gear and it is supposed to be alot quieter.

youve obviously never drove a 10 speed or any split range transmission for that matter. they aint made to be fast, theyre made to pull. i doubt you could even drive a 10 speed and theyre the easiest. once you get into split range trans with a high and low split in each gear then youre driving big boy shit, 13, 16, 18 speeds, something i doubt you could ever come close to doing. his truck is way more badass than yourn. i cant wait for the day i 10 speed swap mine.

Cool idea but a hell of a waste of money hell he's even got a fucking CB on the dash haha this dude really thinks he's super trucker 🤣😂. If you're towing enough weight with a 3/4 ton to need that wide range of gears then you need to buy an actual commercial truck with the actual purpose of pulling that type of weight. That thing is gonna be even more clapped out than it already is.
@jagersgarage490

When three 5 speeds have broke. This is cheaper and more reliable. If you don't think that many gears are needed or can help then you have never towed 10k in the mountains of Alaska or Canada.

ALEJANDRO here is a little news flash. This guy doesn't think he is super trucker. He is a super innovator. He had a problem with towing in mountains and so instead of trying to buy a solution he built one. Did you look at his hands? Dude works for a living, so how about you keep your little snide comments to yourself and go look at videos of how to purchase your boyfriend a new ear gauge. Thanks.
