Doepfer Dark Energy MkI Revisited - Some Tunes & Drones (reverb, some delay)

Revisiting what was my first analog synth; the original Doepfer Dark Energy. First part of the video is some melodic sounds/arps, followed by some noise/drones/effects from 5:50 onwards. Turn on Subtitles for some patch explanation.
I used this little analog synth for drone sounds in some of my favourite early videos:

Recorded on an iPad via Focusrite 18i6, using AUM with Dubstation 2 delay, mostly EOS2 and some ShimmerFX reverbs. Video also edited on an iPad because my MacBook is still broken, so I've kept it simple.

Thank you for adding some delay and reverb. It is a pet peeve of mine when people demo synthesizers completely dry.

I absolutely love the sound of this little box. I had considered one of the more recent versions a few months ago. Your melodies are impeccable as well. Thank you for sharing!

Thank you very much. I've yet to try the other versions. Apparently the CEM chips for this model ran out, so they'll sound different, but the latest version has a multimode filter, which is definitely appealing. The new Eurorack miniature synth voice looks interesting too.

interesting sound of self oscillation, unlike many filters that expectedly go into sine wave, this one has so much overtones (i presume from subtle saturation somewhere in the signal path) that it becomes this gorgeous flute-y triangle wave. really nice demo.

Thank you very much. It certainly has it's own sound, for a single oscillator synth with no sub-octave generator it has a really nice range of subtle timbre variation.

Beautiful showcase of lovely synth. I got it (together with some handmade noiseboxes) back in times instead of getting op-1 - and i guess i dont regret.

wow.... so eine Presentation des DE kenn ich nich nicht. Ich hab das DIng selbst und nutze ihn meist als Bass ..... die höheren Töne sind aber ja auch sehr nice. Was mich bei Doepfer immer wieder begeistert, ist das Preis-Leistungsverhalten. Ich habe viel Eurorack bei mir rummstehen und muss sagen Doepfer hat mindestens die gleiche Qualität wie Moog, wober Doepfer wesentlich günstiger ist. Also mein Favorite ....Doepfer!!

So lucky that I just got hold of one of these babies! The sound seems so rich and creamy, compared to what you would be able to achieve with softsynths or say a Minibrute or Monologue...

Just bought a MK1 DE. Super excited to play with it, start sequencing... maybe get a DT to pair with it. Love the self-oscillation patches...

It's always interesting to see how you made your tracks. I had never heard of the Doepfer Dark Energy. It can produce some nice sounds for sure and considering its age, it is pretty astounding it had USB and MIDI built in.

Yes, it's a nice little box; it's got 2 LFO's, a neat linear frequency modulation feature, nice controls and build quality, and I still think it's one of the prettiest synths I've seen.

Nice video. I don't spend enough time on mine- it does sound great but the whole single oscillator thing puts me off. Mostly used with the Dark Time.

The Dark Energy MKI I own has the most snappy envelopes of any synth I've heard so far, its really amazing. I wish this unit existed in a multi OSC form with the same CEM chip etc. Maybe you could hook two/three of them up in a way internally and put them in a single housing?
