Does 24k gold work harden? Does 24k anneal? How soft is 24k actually? I'm here to answer.
As I was making another video I recalled being called out by someone who said 24k couldn't work harden. And actually said I must not have real gold....
As I was working the other project I decided I'd put this out there for the world.

I don't believe people understand that gold is still a hard metal. It's not like sodium or potassium in softness and is still pretty hard metal. Copper is a soft metal but hard to bend with your hands lol.

Kind of wonder if you didn't quench it how soft it would get...I get that isn't practical when you are trying to work with the material.

That's a good question. I've always honestly assumed it's the quenching that made it soft not the actual heating. I'll have to heat some gold let it cool without quench and test. Video to come!

@@SmartBettsPM my understanding is if this acted like steel; heating it and allowing it to cool would anneal it while quenching would temper it and make it harder than it could be by locking in the crystalline structure. But I probably don't remember most of my material since class.

It’s possible to work it heating it up that way from what I’ve seen but it can crack don’t take my word I’ve only had few years of working w gold and gold alloys
