Of course, part of the problem with soft armor is that Kevlar fibers become less effective across the armor as you shoot them. So every bullet weakens the armor giving it less stopping power for future bullets. Had you shot that slug at the front piece, it probably would have gone straight through as well.

See, my family used to call me paranoid, because I wore a front and back plate vest under my sweatshirt/hoodie/jackets. When it saved me from a random drive-by crossfire, they saw why I wore it. (Edit: drive-by was to shoot somebody else, and I was on the same side of the street as them, and I was struck by two 9mm rounds. One only glazed my jacket and just tore some threading, but the other struck my back plate, and at the angle it struck, it would’ve struck my spinal cord. So it saved my life, and my ability to walk. I’d rather be paranoid and alive, than trusting and dead/paralyzed.)

@sunnysonne2957
@sunnysonne2957 7 ай бұрын
One thing to note is the armor has technically already been used, and is well past its rated damage threshold by the time you shot it with .44. Try it again on a clean hoodie, center mass instead of up at the edge of the armor, would be a way better, more fair 3A test. Im not expecting it to still be 3A all AFTER getting hit with .22, 9mm, .357 and .45acp, because thats a grossly unrealistic expectation, unless 6 people with 6 diff guns hit you 1 after the other (never gonna happen)
@neoprofin
@neoprofin 7 ай бұрын
It literally stopped all of them that it's rated for. That's 3A. No one who knows anything about ballistics, soft armor, or firing tests would have a problem with this. If you served, you know that un-less you have hard plate you're still going to have a bad day when you get shot. But you're still alive, you don't need someone to reinflate your lung or seal it, you're not bleeding out of your back from an exit wound that no one noticed because they didn't check under your vest. I understand your complaint that when they opened up on full auto it was already compromised, but it wasn't rated to stop that in the first place. That was just having fun. If you want to take point-blank full auto at point blank range, you might want to roll in a tank not a hoodie.

I picked up a couple 'Sherpa' winter hoodies from a Washington State based company called 'Bulletproof Everyone' a few years back and they have actually become a regular part of my wardrobe. The BE armor is a good deal thicker than the armor shown in this video but it is still quite stealthy. (Although I do appear as to have spent a fair bit more time in the gym than I actually have when wearing it to most who know me closely) The positive: A.) Has been tested and found not to be lacking in it's claim to stop handguns up to .44mag 2.) Easily my best fall and winter jacket. Keeps me toasty & warm and can do so all through the night if necessary D.) If you stitch on six or more patches you will feel like one tough Son-Of-A-Bangalore as you shrug off slam after hit after elbow when slam hard with your brothers in a mosh in the Slayer pit. FOO-KING SLAYER!!!!! The Negative: A:) It's a little warm in late spring and early fall 2:) A bit bulkier than newer designs like the one shown in this video D:) Will transform your fragile, temporary, human corpse-to-be into an inescapable iron maiden of moist suffering if worn it in the accursed heat of the summer. This is absolutely NOT a year round option for those who are not accustomed to wearing armor in almost anything shy of a warzone in the graveyard of empires. Rating: 9.42069 (out of 10)

Its really the combination of a larger surface area, heavier projectile and lower velocity that makes the .45 ACP less effective than 9mm in every way against an armored target. Against an unarmored target it performs better because its less likely to overpenetrate and deliver all of its kinetic energy to the target whereas 9mm tends to pass straight through a target if it doesn't hit bone.

The ammo type matters, not all 9 mils are as spicy as 9mm NATO, actually, when he clarified he was going to use a fmj nato round, I figured a bone could get broken. On the other side, the .45 acp round looked like bulk discount going outta business type of ammo. Now, replace that .45 for a 165gr one and things might be different, specially outta those 5". Cheers.

@@hansvonmannschaft9062 Cheers…! It’s all about energy transfer which is roughly mass and speed of mass but other factors increase the energy like rotation. Put a 165 gr pill on a table and flick it with your middle fingernail. Chances are you might flick the pill off the table but also likely to end up with a black and blue fingernail. The 165 gr pill standing still has significant energy compared to your flicking finger. Throw a 165 gr pill at your buddy with a pitchers throw and get laughed at. Throw a 40 gr pill at 1200 fps and you have a shart show. For sure 9mm NATO is way faster than us made 9mm amo for all the wrong us ammo mfg marketing campaigns. That’s why us has P, +P, ++P, P+P, PP++PP and so forth and so on. Ever wonder why certain 5.7 types are LE only…? Same reason we get 9mm Luger here in us. One also has to think about the amount of blunt force trauma highly focused on these areas transmitting force to the organs behind it. The .44 mag hit at the upper sternum and fractured it… behind that lives a portion of the thoracic aorta. There’s a chance that amount of focused energy could injure the vessel even without the projectile, which can be fatal (not immediately, but possibly without proper medical attention). Also, behind the right lower rib cage lives the liver (.357 mag). That transmitted force could injure the liver, causing a significant liver laceration and bleeding that could potentially kill if not treated. Broken ribs can also cause pneumothorax and collapse the lung, which can kill. The last shot in the back with the slug could injure the spine and the spinal cord. Not to say that this is not impressive. It’s better than wearing a hoodie without the soft armor, and I would imagine would increase survivability.

Although it looks silly as an every day hoodie. Kevlar lined clothing is great for motorcyclist because of how much heat and abrasion resistance it has. This would be a super solid option for people who don't like the super rigid "armored" jackets that most riding gear stores sell.
@tomaszskowronski1406
@tomaszskowronski1406 8 ай бұрын
heat and abrassion yes, but little to no shock absorbtion. the point of those rigid jackets is to protect your spine. and other bones, but mostly spine. broken arms heal. broken spine doesn't. of course, jacket like that is better than riding in a tshirt, but still- the armor has it's point would work a tad better if it also had kevlared arms instead of just torso. people tend to instinctually guard themselves with them, they get most damaged when sliding

These tests have been done so many times with 3A armor that these results didn’t surprise me. The way body armor works is that it spreads the force over a wide section of the armor (kinda like a trampoline, think of laying down vs standing up). This means bigger, wider faced bullets are less likely to penetrate. Speed and pointy (FMJ, Spitzer, etc.) is what defeats armor. People think 7.62x39 and 300 BLK are more likely to penetrate armor than 5.56, but it’s been proven that the light, fast 5.56 from a 20” barrel has better armor penetration capabilities. That’s why the Russians changed to 5.45. I’d like to take a 44 magnum 305gr hard cast bear load and grind the tip of the bullet to a point and then shoot it at 3A armor. I bet it would penetrate. Or maybe a hot 357 mag HC. I’m an internet specialist, not a ballistics specialist, so you don’t have to believe me. Do the research yourself.

High velocity hangun such as 5.7 would be interesting. Maybe some of the Extreme Defenders in .357 Sig (2100fps claimed) or 10mm (1825 fps claimed) would defeat it. The high velocity of those rounds would help, but the larger diameter would work against them for defeating armor. Be interesting to see where the balance is struck between velocity, diameter and armor defeat.

I think the more accurate term for most products out there on the market that we can wear are bullet-resistant not bulletproof cuz if it was fully bulletproof we would never have to replace them ever. I truly believe that everything in the market that's bullet-resistant as people calling bulletproof can take on a certain amount of damage before they become compromised.
