ℹ️ About the Episode
For RVers, towing technology is finally at the point of adding incredible convenience and safety. Backing in a trailer with a "knob" can be a game-changer for many, especially those who are new to backing in their trailer or only do it every once in a while.
Many will say the knob isn't necessary and that backing up "manually" is easier. That's probably true for experienced backer-uppers ... but for someone who isn't yet comfortable backing in a trailer, the learning curve of the knob takes only seconds. In this episode, we leave Elkmont Campground in the Great Smoky Mountains and enjoy a one-night pull-through stay on our way to Kings Island Cedar Point, where we meet up with friends hosting the Music in the Park event. We always enjoy using our RV in different ways, and amusement park camping is fun for the whole family! While the kids were at the park, the adults got to hang out for happy hour around the Solo Stove. Does life get any better?!
Peanut Butter Buckeyes Recipe:
2 sticks of Kerry gold butter - room temperature
1.5 Cups of non-sweetened natural smooth salted peanut butter
1.5 tsp of vanilla, 5 cups of powdered sugar.
Use a fork to blend all ingredients together. Roll in small balls and stick a toothpick in each ball and freeze. Dip in melted chocolate and serve once chocolate sets.

As a former boat operator with my first agency, I learned “slow is pro.” A lesson I use with my RV as well. Well done Caleb. I have a 2021 F-150 with the pro trailer knob. After towing many years with a 2001 F-250, I love the knob. It’s my cheat code.

I'm a diehard Ford guy and was taught to backup trailers by my truck driver dad, so when I got my 2019 F-150 with that knob I was curious. After reading the setup required I went, how cute, threw the stickers in the glove box and they haven't moved since lol I suppose if you didn't know how to back, it could be helpful, but I feel it is too much retraining to do something I already know how to do

My neighbor is teaching me how to tow/back up. He wouldn't allow me to use the nob OR the backup camera on the TT. ONLY my mirrors and getting out of the truck to look. "Electronics fail. Mirrors don't."

@ryanhessler8966 2 жыл бұрын
@@nadiaz65 agreed. It is so much easier to just know how to do it than to have to fumble around with that stuff. I will say thought, the camera on the back of the trailer would be nice just to help know you are clear back there because mirrors don't see back there haha

I bought one of those lockboxes for the console and it completely did not fit. So I have a tray that is made for my truck that fits underneath the backseat. I asked my metal guys to cut me a piece of metal the size of the lockbox and drill four holes in it, and then I drilled four holes in the tray that fits underneath my backseat. I mounted the lock box inside the tray then the tray then the metal underneath the tray and I cut the screws off so they wouldn’t stick out the bottom of the tray past the nuts. Now I have a secure lockbox that I can put things in that is underneath the backseat and since many people don’t even know the backseats lift up it’s really a good security lock box.

having used the knob for a while on a 18ft and 32ft trailers, it still helps to know how to back in without it. Been in some situations where the knob couldn't do it because the angle was wrong or the shadows/sun caused the camera to not read the label. But it has made it super less stressful and just moving a camper over or backing straight back the knob is awesome. But i would get the knob again.

I use the "knob" on my Ford to back my trailer "straight back". I have always had issues with backing straight, let me tell you that "knob" has taken that out of the picture. Get the trailer aligned, hit that knob and put it straight up. It is so helpful. Yes, I am a solo female Airstreamer, l really like that backup assist. I liked the rest of your video too, :).

We thought, however, that since there was no traffic in the RV park when he was practicing backing the Airstream, that it might've been a great time to have him do it a couple more times - just for additional practice.

Here's a helpful topic. We have had a rash of stolen vehicles in our surrounding area. The bad guys will get close to their victim or just outside the RV and use a code reader to connect with the key fob. They then beam the signal to a buddy who is by the vehicle. That person can unlock the vehicle and if the vehicle has push button start, they are away and gone. I now carry my key in a small faraday pouch.

Elkmont is a great campground. I was there in March. I also just finished a back country hike from Fontana lake to Newfound Gap in the Smokies. I originally planned to hike the AT through the park but had to change my plans because two of the shelters were closed due to bear activity. I did have a very close encounter with a bear but everything was ok. When I got home, my wife told me that a bear hurt someone at Elkmont. I did the Cades Cove bike ride in March. I've seen the knob work and I've seen it fail. But I truly believe if you're going to drive around towing a trailer you need to back in using mirrors eyes and help from somebody you trust. The skill you learn from backing in your own trailer in the pride you get from it can never be matched by some silly knob in your truck. So don't rely on the video game learn how to do it yourself cuz what happens if the knob breaks and you don't know how to do it...

I have the backup assist on my 2020 F250 but haven’t used it. I am glad you put it in the video, I’m motivated to try it now. I have the “checkerboard” sticker for my toy hauler. I just have to find a good setup video because the manual is a little confusing.

The cab of any F-Series is a very peaceful and comfortable place. Great place to work. Not a bad place to sleep, either.

I just gotta ask for anyone that have never learned how to back up a trailer or never had a BU camera, what ever will you do when those stop working. Ask a stranger to put your trailer in. I mean tech is great and all but, it's like all these fishermen that can't catch a fish with out 3 big fish finders on their $80k bass boats. Or not being able to find your way out of the woods without a GPS. You might wanna learn the old way first, just so you have that skill in your back pocket. Enjoyable video though and teaching Caleb how to back in manually is great for his generation who when older won't have the manual option unless the dial stops working.

I back up steer with my hand on top. That's the way I learned 65 years ago down on the farm with farm equipment and our farm truck. My truck center console has a built in phone holder down low, but still visable. With it hook to the radio via blue tooth I/we can answer any call or look at text messages without touching or looking at the phone. Plus Google maps is/can be displayed on the radio screen.

When I saw that intro pic, I thought you were getting a new Truck. Then watched further. Nice job Caleb. So funny seeing that you put in that Classic Lucy and Ethel sketch. Never heard of buck eyes, but what ever Trish makes looks great🤠

Don’t know about that trailer backup knob. Apparently it works. Just have been backing trailer for many years and it is something I really don’t need to think about. I guess experience would determine the benefits of the knob.

For phone holders, I use a Ram X Mount with a suction cup and attach it to my driver’s side window. It works well, but does make it a pain for the times I need to roll down my window. It’s still easy to take off, though. Also, I installed a console shifter from an F150 on my F350… I love being able to more comfortably select gears when towing. I have a 7.3L gas Tremor, so it does shift around now and I tend to manually shift it often when towing to avoid hunting around with the 10spd transmission.
