I think we’re all old enough to know a person buying a drink 🥃 is 9/10 expecting at least a 5 min conversation. I have turned down drinks because I wasn’t interested. That’s why I have my own money. It’s definitely crazy the women that go in broke expecting a man to buy a drink and then mad he wants to talk.

No one is obligated to do anything whatsoever. However, as a general rule of thumb, if you aren’t interested in talking to someone you shouldn’t accept a drink from them. It’s just classless and in poor taste. Just say thanks but no thanks and keep it moving.

I tend to offer to buy a drink after an introduction has been made, or a convo has been started already. I don't think I'd just walk up and start with "can I buy you a drink". I'd try to spark up a conversation and if she is receptive and nice I'll usually offer with no expectations beyond that.

I agree with what Tank was saying make the intentions known before buying a drink. I am from the UK 🇬🇧 so probably different attitude here, it is a unwritten social norm that if someone is buying you a drink it is to socialise, I’m pretty sure that was the origins of drinking alcohol hundreds of years ago. I also think having the mentality of not owing someone a thank you when holding a door open is wrong and basically washes any accountability from the person receiving a kind gesture for bad behaviour and not having etiquette. I would not like to live in a world where a kind deed or gesture is not thanked or appreciated as most people would stop doing it. This is one of those situations like cold approaching, women got upset about men cold approaching them in public, men then hear what women were saying and stopped doing it. Then women started making tik toks to complain that men were no longer approaching them. This could be a similar situation if there is not an honest conversation between men and women about this. But in all honesty it is not that deep if we are all adults and understand that a man asking to buy you a drink is his way of saying ‘would you like to have a conversation’ there would be better interactions between men and women.
