I was just having a similar idea. I realized our brain is the physical device that actually encodes and stores our memories, analogous to a memory card for a game console (older ones). If you damage or lose the memory card, you lose the access you had to any information about what you've previously played (experienced), however the means for playing the game itself exists external to the memory card. You can play the same game hundreds and hundreds of times, but as soon as you put a new memory card in - it will seem (from the perspective of that card) that this is the very first time you've played. You can beat the entire game on that card, but once it deteriorates and the data becomes irretrievable you have no way of accessing what has previously been experienced through that same console or person playing, and bringing it to the present moment. Many of us feel like our lives as a human is our "first" or "only" one. Why? Because there's nothing we can pull forward prior to our birth that got written onto the particular storage device that we use to recall and interpret memories. You could have very well been aware long before your birth, but there was nothing actually encoding any memories into the specific spacetime format you use to interpret them, and onto the device you use to retrieve them at this time. It will always seem like this is the only thing that has been experienced, as we are locked into the perspective of this particular card, which only saves the spacetime projections created by our brain.

Have you ever heard of the plethora of those stories about children remembering their previous lives, people floating above their body in near death experiences and those drug induced out of body experiences Mr Pro-sociaal Sociaapath? What is the mechanism behind how those children remember their claimed previous lives and how they died and whatnot? I hope you have some theory that goes along the way of your 'brilliant memory card theory'? Or would you rather leave it to Western psychology(or psycho-babble) and/or the latest ideas of neuroscience?

As a former atheist, and current agnostic who believes in a higher power, I can’t help but think that we didn’t give ancient humans enough credit for “creating religion” and trying to define “God”. We’re rediscovering what was already handed to us, but which we threw aside as nonsense

Yes agree Advaita is what is described For those not aware ... Hinduism at it's root is exactly about the journey of a drop of consciousness (me) back to the ocean of consciousness (the universe) ...me is first described in physical terms (a body, head, brain, understanding, limited by life time) then spiritual self (the atma, it's a unique consciousness, is perpetual not limited by one lifetime) ...universe is similarly physical terms (atoms planets a cosmos full of all stars & "space time" between) then the spiritual realm (a cosmic consciousness) which exists perpetually too (even has a birth live death cycle itself) Really interesting that science may now accept our atma (our Brahman) exists & is a remnant before birth and after death waiting to rejoin the universe (the great Brahman).

He’s not completely wrong near he’s actually on to something, but that self identity or ego is dissolved before we reincarnate not rite when we die. It takes sometime while we transition to sorta wipe the slate clean it dosnt happin all at once probly cause it could kind of shock the system having it happen immediately. I mean imagine leaving your body while simultaneously getting your memory erased of who u are that would be the most confusing ride into the light ever , you would be like where the fuck am i, what’s going on, who am i, why is that light pullin me lmao. No i think we might possibly actually remember all are past lives at some moment Maby to help us reflect and compare how we did this time around who knows .

I like the idea but still I do not have the idea why we are so afraid of death or why we are trying to avoid it. We go to the doctor every once in a while, we try to eat as healthy as possible, we have defense mechanisms - both we and animals escape from sudden threats. why do we not want to die so much if consciousness is eternal?

As you wish to believe…my understanding is different from yours. I do not believe sleep is prescribed to all. I think that is a religious belief. As conscious agents, we all project and for each of us I’m suspect it will be as we each project, including projecting those who you say prescribe sleep to all. Bless you and the entire planet.

If space time is just an interface then time is not real, that is everything is happening at once. If that is so, what is death, but just a data point. From another perspective, what if I am actually "dead" to every other conscious being here any time their senses cannot perceive me, similar to an avatar in a video game? I would love for Dr Hoffman to address this

@@domari9459 you could be right, at least about the 'in depth' part. I don't offhand recall what specifically gave me that impression that he is familiar with, if not having studied or currently practicing Buddhism and Advaita Vedanta. It could be interviews where he is together with Rupert Spira and they so consistently coincide and agree. I will try to recall and will post if I find where he specifically mentions something in that regard. Meanwhile, the recent interviews where he has discourse with Rupert Spira at least provide some base for how they acknowlege their views coincide and at least some familiarity overlapping there.

@@laurakelly631 Abrahamic religions(Judaism, Islam, Christianity) and Hinduism views the human consciousness as an awareness, soul or a spirit that survives the death in consciously aware form that leaves the body. The difference between Hinduism and Abrahamic religions is that the Hinduism includes all life forms into that view of consciousness, awareness, spirit or soul whereas Abrahamic religions are human centric and do not usually believe in animal souls Buddhism is somewhat different because the idea of soul is dismissed in Buddhist philosophy as a nothing more than an illusion. However there is an allusion in Buddhism where it says a deeper 'non-aware' awareness of self that survives the physical death and continues until the person who's in the human form becomes "enlightened " or reach the state of "Nirvana". What I like about Buddhism is the rejection of creationism, creator and the soul, which is abundantly obvious to any critical mind that we humans have fabricated as a bandaid for our existential crisis. However, Jainism and Upanishads may also have such views similar to Buddhism or similar to the latest version of Don's conscious agents.
