I really appreciate Emmy's healthy relationship with food. She never goes out of her way to say a food is unhealthy but clarifing that in excess the food can be bad for you thus never inadvertently shaming the people who enjoys the foods. Presenting the food or drink as something neutral, that is OK to like or dislike using our own discretion. It absolutely is something to be admired. This coming from someone who was raised as if food was something to be feared. Thank you Emmy!

I used to drink coke and sodas all the time. Took me 10 years to break the habit but I had to for my health. On a hot summer day after a couple of years of not having any, I picked up an ice cold can of coke, popped it open, listened to the fizziness to with a smile, and took a big swig. Tasted like battery acid. I almost couldn't keep it in my mouth long enough to get to the sink. Never had the urge to drink it since. BUT that may be why people who don't drink it anymore can't remember what it tastes like. When you don't drink it for a long time your tastes change.

As someone on a not for weight-loss symptom management medical diet one of my big annoyances when looking for recipes is "Tastes Just Like!" It never tastes just like. Tastes just like is a lie and instead of enjoying something for what it is you're just disappointed it's not as promised.

I've been working to lose weight too with my nutritionist and she helps me find things that I like that are healthy and will help me lose weight rather than things that "taste like whatever" for that reason - always tastes like disappointment. But finding foods I can eat and enjoy without destroying myself helps me not miss foods that aren't good for me.

"Healthy coke" is a replacement/substitute for coke, not a doppelganger, never meant to taste like it, just to curb your craving for it and to have something that doesn't have sugar. My advice is... the caffeinnated bubly, "citrus cherry" tastes SO good with the balsamic vinegar. It reminds me of having a cocktail and is refreshing without being something that slows down my immune system. Aaight? Also, other good flavors besides cherry with the balsamic vinegar are mango, grapefruit, and peach. Any fruit that you can put spices and salt on it make for a good pairing.

I learned about this about a year and a half ago from Dr. Steven Gundry's podcast. It's one of his videos for 2017 and he doesn't call it "coke" per se but calls it a healthier alternative to soda. (He's mentioned in another video that it was something that he picked up in Italy a few years previous to his video on this subject.) I'm a hardcore Coke drinker and it's a passable substitute when made with lime-flavored sparkling water as lime is one of the original ingredients. My recommendation is to try this again with a can of chilled lime-flavored Bubbly and use two to three tablespoons of older balsamic vinegar. It's not going to taste exactly like real Coke, but will give you a cola-ish flavor.

There’s actually some probiotic soda brands that have come out recently. I’ve tried poppi recently and though it isn’t exactly that soda flavor I’m looking for, it’s a decent flavored sparkling water. They use apple cider vinegar in their ingredients. When I was a kid, we forgot about a batch of root beer so it was under *extreme* pressure. We lived in the country, so my dad took them all very carefully to the driveway and popped the caps while holding them at about a 45-60 degree angle. The glass bottles were, like, more of a liter? Those things fountained, like, 30'-40' and the apex of those fountain arcs must have been 12'-14'. It was glorious. I think the ants were ecstatic.

This reminds me of when I used to make balsamic strawberries. Just cut your strawberries into chunks, coat them in sugar, and add a couple tablespoons of balsamic vinegar, and let them macerate in the fridge a day or so. Then you have a delightful topping for things like ice cream, yogurt, waffles, or anything. Then I would take the strawberry-infused, sweet vinegar liquid left at the bottom of the bowl and mix it with some sparkling water for a delicious soda.

I use an old fashioned cola syrup for my chronic nausea, I think that might work. If anything it would be fun to mess around with different flavor combinations. Also I highly recommend making homemade syrups with fruit and herbs. I’ve never tried adding the herbs to the syrup(grenadine) but I have infused alcohols with the herbs and then made my own drinks using the homemade syrup as well. Also it’s great for adding to kombucha! But to infuse herbs into your alcohol you essentially just add it into the bottle and then store it in a dark place for a few weeks/months. It’s all about experimenting for yourself!

if you want to get the syrups/reduced liquids, more involved and have a more homogenous outcome you could add a bit of hot water, like 2 tbs or on a 1/1 ratio, mix it with the syrup, dissolve it in the hot water, then add it to the ice with the la croix, it’ll dissolve more thorough and spread out more evenly

I probably would've added cane sugar to it and maybe honey or something like that. And if u want something else add some cherries to it. What is sweet balsamic vinegar? Balsamic vinegar is a slightly sweet, dark, richly flavored vinegar made from grapes used to enhance salad dressings, marinades, and sauces. It can be reduced to a glaze and drizzled over strawberries, stirred into a risotto, or tossed with Brussels sprouts or red onions to let its sugars caramelize in the oven.

I've always been a Diet Coke girl... and I hate it when Pepsi is the only thing available. BUT - I have found that adding some lemon juice to the Diet Pepsi - it's a bit more like Coke! So, as a sparkling mineral water snob. My father got me hooked on Perrier as a kid at his favorite burger place. La Croix is not really a good *flavored* sparkling water. Everytime I have tried their flavored water it does not mix well and tastes chemically. Same for Aha, Bubly, and HEB brand. The only flavored sparkling water that I prefer with little to no chemical flavor is Perrier ( grapefruit is my favorite ) and San Pellegrino ( Aranciata ). Be careful with the San Pellegrino flavors as some can be pretty strong like the Aranciata Rosa or blood orange. But most of the flavors are pretty tasty. So if you try this recipe by Emmy I would use Perrier or San Pellegrino. They will probably mix better.

This is just another one of what I call Vegan sticky note recipes. Some Vegan/Health nut people understandably struggle with the restrictions of their diet choices. What to do when you miss those addictive flavors like Coke, bacon, etc.? You come up with something that has a vague resemblance (obviously, the closer the better) and you stick a label on it, often with quotes like ... a recipe for healthy "Coke." Then you adamantly insist that it tastes "just like" the original, whether it does or not. The majority of the time it does not, and no ordinary person would eat it, much less be fooled by it. Any objection to it is met with the indignant response "but this is HEALTHY!" or "this is VEGAN!" as if that mattered when it's not remotely what they desperately claim it is.

A common snack my family in the south use to drink was salted peanuts poured directly in a bottle of coke. You get a crunchy, salty surprise mixed in the sweet soda! Also, cola is a combination of warm spices, citrus, and vanilla. You can blend those scents together and it is exactly cola. Maybe if those flavors were mirrored in the mixes here, it would be closer.

@@nihlify I do not know if diet coke is still bad or not, but I know it used to be horrible. Between the high sugar content and some of the ingredients it did bad things to those who drank it all the time. Odds are they changed it now. So it may be better... But I would still stay far away from Diet Coke. Coke zero however is probably fine. Especially now that people are now aware that too much sugar per day can get turned into bad fat on the body. Or more specifically, difficult to get rid of with diet or exercise. PSA: Stay far away from the Reddit thread about sugar and high fructose corn syrup. Many of the threads and discussions are deliberately misleading and sneaky. Using words like "technically ( or there is no evidence ) high fructose corn syrup is not worse than regular sugar" which is technically correct and really misleading at the same time.
