How does Matter replace HomeBridge?? The point of HomeBridge is to make different protocols talk together. Saying it replaces HomeKit because I can buy matter protocol devices is the same as saying I did not need HomeBridge to begin with because I could have just bought HomeKit compatable devices.

It is always a bit amusing, hearing about Matter as being the be-all-end-all home automation standard, that _finally_ allows interoperability between vendors, if you know that KNX, albeit with a completely different use-case, has provided this for (literally) decades. Btw. there is also a native Homebridge package for Synology NAS'es, including integration into the Package Center, likely providing the most simple way to install Homebridge on this brand of NAS.

It’s gonna take at least 2-3 years for all devices to truly support matter. Just wish they had added cameras first 😩😩😩😩

Looking very much forward to getting my WiZ lights Matter updated and off Homebridge! Homebridge is a super cool concept and great for some things! But Homebridge plugins don’t always play well since accessory manufacturers don’t produce the plug-ins!

No, If you shop correctly and buy products that have matter support or direct access to a matter bridge, like Hue Bridge, then something like homebridge is obsolete. However just like horse buggies are still used today, they are only a niche market item.

My old devices are not supported by matter and tuya wants me to buy a hub.... so no. i'll still use homebridge

I wonder if I should remove homeassistant from my smarthome and only use homebridge. Any suggestion? Does homebridge now has a UI? It's not 100% clear from the video - but seems like it!

I show some clips from HOOBS, which adds some stuff on top of homebridge, but there are some WebUI plugins for Homebridge (I must admit I'm most familiar with Hoobs software). Home Assistant will still be more versatile than Homebridge.

@@9to5Mac I tried using homeassistant - but I don't need it. It's too complicated/complex ... and Home works better and better and actually works reliably. So I just want to add my other devices to homekit ...

Homebridge comes with the _Homebridge Config UI X_ plugin as standard, providing, you guessed it, a GUI ;)

I’ve tired both, honestly HA is more stable, easier to configure and supports more devices than homebridge

It will take years until Matter will have reached decent market saturation and is mature enough. Until then and even after that, there will be devices requiring a translation layer like HASS or Homebridge.

Matter is the future, Homebridge will able you to use old devices in the future. Most products that are selling today will not suppoert matter. Homebridge will keep them usable.

Thing is what is the scope of future ? Hehe at the current time we’ll need bridges and dealing with older devices is a matter for sustainability that Matter does not seems to matter ;)
