ABOUT BELOW DECK:
Captain Lee, Kate, and Ashton reunite as a team and embark on an exciting new season in Thailand on mega yacht “Valor.” After his brush with death last season and promotion to bosun, Ashton’s work hard, play harder persona is at an all-time high. While his leadership on deck holds strong, Ashton struggles below deck to keep his emotions in check after the crew gets an unexpected surprise that rocks Ashton to his core. Chef Kevin’s high standards and strict rules for the kitchen and service clash with Kate’s stew style, leading to fiery confrontations in the galley. Kate tries to foster a productive work environment for her team, but when Simone feels favoritism to Courtney, the stews go head-to-head. When Abbi is unable to adapt to the high demands of yachting, Brian and Tanner are forced to pick up the extra work. Brian, Ashton, Tanner, Simone, Courtney, and Kate all find themselves in and out of love on the boat, resulting in love triangles and heartbreak. With one demanding charter group after another, the crew is tasked with entertaining playboys and party girls this season; but after a shocking departure, the teams must band together to welcome back a crew member from seasons past.

I think that Kate actually gained Captain Lee’s respect and he is not scared of her. He knows he can trust her and she showed him in real life and on the boat. She is better than all the cast combined (other than Captain Lee) this season. I hated how they made her feel the other crew members this season.

I was not prepared for Captain Lee's answer to the question about when he realized that Kate was one of his best friends. "When she showed up for my son's funeral. No question. Just showed up" I'm a blubbering mess. You can't buy that kind of friendship and loyalty. It all makes sense. 😭😭😭😭

That, "whoa....shit" moment that sticks in your craw. That stabbed me right in my grief spot - the spot in me that will stay tender to the touch for life, and gets poked when I feel other people's pain. This is a pure example of real, unconditional, unquestioned, exceptional, unstoppable, judgement-free, deep, unique, fortunate, admirable, inexplicable love. Love is always the answer, and Captain Lee's candid answer to the question of the moment that he knew she was his person...reminded me of that, when I reeeally needed to be reminded of that badly. Captain Lee may never know how much his talks of his unique love for Kate helped me in this very moment. Mr. Rogers taught us to "look for the helpers." If anyone needs a dose of hope, please Google the clip of Mr. Rogers explaining that in times of dire straits..look for the helpers. It's as touching and positive as Captain Lee was when expressing who Kate is to him. Treat yourself to warm feelings, wherever and whenever you can get 'em. Love everyone you can. Be there for someone, even when you feel like you can't show up for yourself. In times of mourning, don't tell someone to ask you if they ever need anything, just show up and start doing the things that momentarily lighten the load of the grief-stricken. During the aftershock of a death, followed by the stress of making the arrangements, one doesn't have the wherewithal or energy to even notice things like running out of toilet paper, clothes/trash piling up, overlooked light/phone bill due dates, etc.. so, don't recoil in fear of doing or saying the wrong thing. The day after the funeral is the most lonely feeling of ultimate finality that it will almost create a faint buzzing sound and vibration across the vast abyss of a "what the fk do I do now?"-feeling that washes across anyone that just went through the whirlwind of shock, utter sadness, slight anger, mixed with paper work and logistics of the funeral - while being inundated/overwhelmed by the onslaught of "well wishers" before it all comes to an abrupt, isolated halt..while all the well-wishers go on with their daily lives. Show up at that moment. After the funeral. For as many ppl as you can. Listen to their gut-wrenching state of mind while helping tidy up and staying open-eared/hearted.

Good for her to go down, I believe she was friends with his son. That still doesn't give you cart blanche to do and say whatever you want to the rest of the crew. Anyone in a leadership role knows that openly showing favoritism to a crew member (co-work as he referred to her) can lead to a lot of negative thoughts and actions from others.

Kate has always come thru with every guest request made it happen no matter what it takes and the Captain can count on her 100% in that respect. This is huge as he doesn't have to worry about the guest's experience he knows she 's got it covered. I however didn't know about the whole driving to his Son's funeral ( that's what friends do). So heartbreaking my heart goes out to the Captain and his Family for their loss.

Sure, but at the expense of her own team and everyone around her. Does Kate do service well? Yes. Can Kate plan a party? Yes. Can Kate train crew? NO Can Kate hold her alhocol? NO Is Kate a nice person and someone you are count on? No - Kate ALWAYS come through. Captain Lee is acting like no one else did their job. At least he recognizes the preferential treatment. However, this does strike a mark against him for being a good captain. If you are going to give 1 PERSON on the crew a pass, that is just hypocritical treatment and NOT an example of a Captain which holds everyone to same standards.

MindyKay personally.....I like Hannah MUCH better. She’s so far, not a whiny “ oh help me cappy poo, poor pitiful me ya know, Lee” cry baby. She hasn’t shown any walk off tantrums yet. Kate NEEDS attention & that’s what she’s doing by walking off the boat & throwing clothing. Hell, if I threw uniforms while drunk at work...I’d no longer have a job AND before getting kicked out, I’d be washing those uniforms with no pay! They make fast money & lots of it. Captain Lee and Kate have been close since the show started. I remember him saying that she looks like a guest rather than a stew. His sons death was horrible and I can understand why he felt close to Kate cause she came to the funeral. I definitely would have gone too. Unfortunately not all friends are there for you at such a terrible time.

That's one of the things which made me come back each season - the genuineness between Captain Lee and Kate. She's like a surrogate daughter to him and she truly loves and respects him. I think he's one of the few folks she's ever felt she could truly trust. I miss Ben too.

@@phoch2331 Kate showed up for Captain Lee after his son died. No questions asked. And it wasn't filmed for the show. And she didn't want recognition. It only came up when Captain Lee brought it up. And she was uncomfortable about. That, to me, is a wonderful role model. A person who has integrity, and does the right thing even when no one is watching.

I hate how Ashton can kiss random people without permission, loses his cool and the so called men act like boys ALL the time, but when Kate reacts after drinking, they all act like she’s the devil. They are such hypocrites! I thought Ashton was a good guy, immature but now I’ve seen how rotten he Tanner and Brian act.

“That’s why your rooms not down there”... who does this woman think she is? Newsflash Kate he’s the Captain & he can go wherever he pleases whenever he pleases. For Captain Lee & Kate to then deflect & somehow try to put her bad behaviour on Ashton, stating his reaction was purely to impress Lee is ridiculous! We’ve all seen Ashtons relationship with Kate he’s been less than impressed all season. Captain Lee should remain neutral at all times, there should be no preferential treatment within the workplace, there are no friends at work or at least there shouldn’t be because it breeds resentment throughout the rest of the workforce. They can do as they please off charter but how is the rest of the crew supposed to excel when there’s a golden girl controlling & manipulating the environment. They say chefs have the biggest egos on these luxury yachts but chief stews could definitely challenge them in that department! When Kate gave Courtney her stripes she was goading Simone for a reaction for sure! When Riley said “I’m not much of a vocaliser” I literally spat my drink all over the screen!!! That was one very expensive cannonball for Smashton! Captain Lee didn’t have to take $1500 out of his tip at all, within moments of the meeting Ashton appeared in the wheelhouse with an admission, stating he’d make payment alongside a letter of apology. Kate & Ashton have both screwed up in different ways this season, with Kate though it’s always her mean girl/you’re dirt on my shoes mentality that rears it’s ugly head & rubs everyone up the wrong way. Over the past 6 years how many crew have had an issue with Kate? There’s a common denominator...

These crew members don't like kate and think she treats everyone like shit. But that isn't true in the past seasons she has treated people with respect those who work hard and do work. Remember the male stew? What a fun season, also they just seem jealous of her relationship with captain. Can't hold anything against Lee, a best friend is someone who is always there. Granted we mess up who doesn't but they all mess up and yet Kate gets all the hate GTFO. I love her and Lee and I don't agree with how sometimes Kate treats people but I get it. It's a cutthroat charter industry lol. And for the Chef is has a huge ego and tanner is a child.

Kate is great at what she does. I'm not a fan of her tactics. She isn't an overall "nice" individual. But she is a dependable worker. After seeing how good she was to Captain Lee during his time of mourning, It now explains why her behavior has and now will always be overlooked.

The relationship between Captain Lee and Kate is really beautiful. These types of friendships are few and far between. I'm 43 and my best friend and I met the first day of intermediate school when we were ten. Her children are my neice and nephew, her husband is my friend and really supports my friend in supporting me especially with my bad health. As far as we are concerned we are sisters. I love her and her family and her parents are my second set of parents. I feel so blessed to have them in my life. Xx
