Just because of this video I'm thinking about switching from kessil to maxspect. I'm somewhat old school and have been rocking t5, metal halide forever minus kessils for the past 2 years. Only considered kessil do to there patent design on the tiny leds under 1 lens that gives it a proper blend without the spotlight effect. We will c and keep u posted.

The very best review on maxspect! Salute! Which one do you think is best for my tank: - Maxspect RSX 200w or - 2pcs Maxspect Jump LED MJ-L165 Tank dimesions: 40 x 16 x 18 inches (LxWxH) 180 liters tank. I have mostly LPS and Zoanthids. Thanks in advance for your advice!

I told myself that my current build will be FOWLR with some nems for a while. It's been 2 years now and I currently have 2 current usa panels and one reefbrite xho actinic over my 75g standard and I kinda want to start growing corals again with this build. All I have in the tank are a couple of BTAs and RFAs, but I'm starting to catch the reefing bug again. I could never justify spending so much on something like Radeons or Kessils to light the smaller reefs I've had in the past. The 200w R5 is looking really nice compared to everything else 🙂I like that you guys have recommended settings ^_^ wish more source channels did stuff like that.

Hi, I've just purchased a maxspect, and on a previous video you gave different percentages for the best spectrum, which one is the correct one please? It was on the last LED vs t5 video, thanks

In that past video, we were demonstrating how easy/hard it could be to replicate a specific spectrum mix using LEDs with full 1-8-channels of control and not necessarily coming up with a "recommended" spectrum blend. This video shows the actual spectrum we would use over our own tanks. :)

Have the 200W fixture for about a year now. The price is good and its indeed perfect for a mix tank. My acropora seem to like it. Im heavy on the sps side. I did add 2x 39W tl though 😉 makes the spread and colour so much better. And a nice little extra bump for par. I run A:50 B:95 C:95 D:0

What is the height from the top of the tank to the top of the fixture using the mounting legs? My 120g has a canopy over it, so hanging it isn’t an option. So I’m working with approximately 6.5” of space... Not ideal, but it’s what I have to work with if I want to try to keep corals. I like the look of this fixture.

Is the 200 watt version overkill on the Innovative Marine 30L tank? I wanted to have a single clam on the sand bed around the center of the tank and some sps placed higher up near the areas the lights intersect with some softies and lps to fill in the gaps.

Good news is that you can always turn the fixture down if needed. From a physical size standpoint, it's not longer than the tank, so you should be just fine using this fixture tuned to your particular par goals.

I need suggestions..setting up a 40gl .breeder reef ( Softies now and maybe LPS next year ) What lighting would be best for this Tank T5 or LED ?

It's hard to point at one being better than the other, since both lighting technologies will get the job done. It really comes down to a personal preference and decision based on price, features and what speaks to you. If you're looking some tried-and-true technology...a 36" (4x-bulb) T5 will definitely get you there at around $500 bucks after bulbs. If you like a more techie option in a smaller footprint, 2x-AI Primes will also get it done at around the same $500 with mounting brackets. :)

I use the Maxspect razor recurve r6 and I'm having some success with SPS, though it lacks in causing pigmentation

The light is probably not the issue if your corals are lacking color

Well the maxspect lacks providing visual crispness (no cool whites) which makes the colors less vivid

Does lighting the reef seem expensive? Yes it does. Especially coming from the age where I started and fluorescent tubes and metal halide bulbs were the norm. Yeah you could spend a lot if you got the "pretty fixture" (e.g. Ati), but the fact much of the hardware from reflectors to ballasts existed for many other industries other than the aquarium industry meant that it wasn't specialized equipment and as a result the cost was quite reasonable, and the only real aquarium specific cost associated with the high Kelvin value of the bulbs you use. Now sure you can "DIY" LED fixtures too, but that's no where close to as easy as as throwing in some reflectors and wiring some ballasts and you're good to go. And I hate to do this, but this is disappointing that it took this long to get any sort of "other brand" review on these products, at least for me. I've considered Maxspect products both Razor and Ethereal units, they look pretty simple and had decent enough options above that of the Chinese black box (and a bigger cost too), but quite no one was talking about these and literally no one was giving any sort of in depth review like this. If it was Ecotech or Kessil then it's like they don't exist, and sure while those two companies may represent the majority of purchases out there is it because they advertise FAR MORE than all other LED fixtures combined and also have a much bigger video presence? But having options, and knowing them are much more powerful for me the consumer. So I'm happy you're finally showing off other fixtures, but just sad it took this long for it to happen, meanwhile we've already gone through what 5 generations of Radions reviewed in depth, and Kessil? 5 different? 350, 360, 360WE, 360X, AP700, etc? (not sure how many you've done in depth but you've done far more than Maxspect).

I wouldn't expect a massive difference with those settings. Maybe some slight differences in that lower violet to near UV range, but definitely not detrimental to coral growth.

I have a maxpect 150, I also have a hydra 64, I’m torn between lighting my reefer 250 with the maxpect or the hydra. J feel like the maxpect will give better coverage without hotspots for my mixed reef with sps mostly at the top 6-10 inches of the tank or using the hydra and risking hot spots and a tighter “beam”. Worried about sps growth and dull sides but also to powerful for my lps at the bottom. Ugh help me out what would you use ??

With the Reefer 250 being 3 feet long, I think you may be disappointed with the single Hydra 64 over such a large surface area. On the flip side, the Razor 150w is on the small side for that tank and SPS corals. If you made me choose, I'd probably suggest the Maxspect light, but I'd definitely be using a par meter to make sure I have enough par where the SPS will be placed.

Owned it, but disliked it. Hated the violet channel.. above 30% gave a violet tint to the tank.. I just do not like it.. same as the red sea led, its just too purple. l also did not like the "white" channel, because it contains a lot of red, it is not possible to get that crisp look in the tank due to the lack of cool white.. the red will stimulate algea though if you are trying to adjust the channels for or a more white-look. For me the light from AI does allow me to optain a more balanced white look.

I dont see any shimmer. Is there much? Which has more this or qmaven or photon. Iknow qmavebn basically has none. I have see a lot of youtubes and people complained about that. This is the only video for this maxspect razor! All of them are older models I want a light that has deep blue! Most seem to have light blue and royal Is 420 still Violet or dark blue?

There is a little shimmer, but not nearly as much as a pendant style LED fixture.

One of our favorite lighting options for a 40 Breeder is the AI Prime. Two for an LPS/softie tank or three for an SPS tank. On the flip side, if you wanted to go with a Maxspect Razor fixture like the one in this video, their 200w version would be a solid choice.

It depends on what time stamp you're looking at. For example, at the 12:47 minute mark, you can see par at depths of 6", 12", and 18" below the water line.

Channel A 40% channel b 100% channel C 100% channel d 14% 13" off water sand bottom no rockwork love it 200rsx over a 4ft need the hight to mix the colours very under rated the white channel is not that good but I don't want too much white

does the red give you algae? Love that this light has so many colors and the extra uv and viloet, wish it had more than one deep blue led though and 6 of the other blues must I must say it looks lik e more than one when they show channel 3. I don t really like lights on legs or hanging either but I dont know of a light offering so much but the zetlight ufo but they dont use cree! How is the shimmer? I dont really see any on the tank on this video and does this give you more color pop than most. I am considering radions but a lot more money for sure and only 2 blue if I go with pro but afraid to go with blu because might be to blue! How is your growth?

Got mine I hate the d channel I on b 100% c 50% a 50% d 1% my first and last channel to sunrise and sunset is b channel and fitting is 14inch off water

Definitely not the cheapest way to light a tank, but in direct comparison to the handful of other LED options that we've done similar testing videos for this one gets the job done at the lowest cost so far. We still have several lights to get to that might take this "most cost effective" title, so stay tuned! :)

In comparison to the dozen or so other LED light options we tested (with the same PAR goals in the same size of tanks), this is one of the more cost effective options...however you're absolutely right that there are far cheaper options to get the job done. :)
