Carolina Panthers Head Coach Matt Rhule was released after the team's 1-4 start to the season. This means Baker Mayfield will have his sixth career head coach. However, Baker will also be out for 'at least a couple weeks' due to a high ankle sprain. Nick Wright, Chris Broussard and Kevin Wildes discuss what Rhule's firing means for the QB's future.

Come on, Nick. As a Browns fan, I appreciate Mayfield's heart and will to win, but he was not what turned one win seasons into a winning season. Our entire roster received a massive upgrade the year Mayfield was drafted, making it arguably the best on paper on both sides of the ball (except QB). Coincidence? I think not. 😏

That ONE good year (2020), he had the best o-line and possibly the best running game in the NFL… and he BARELY led the team to a playoff win (which the DEFENSE actually won). Believe it or not, he was LUCKY to be in Cleveland with the roster he had! The ONLY time he played well was when the running game was slashing and he could roll out on play action. Dude could NEVER throw from the pocket, and his career record (injured or not) when he’s had a chance to tie or win a game outright in crunch time is ATROCIOUS. I’ve watched EVERY snap he took in Cleveland- he was CARRIED by our roster… he didn’t carry anything. Dude is DONE.

I think the NFL and marketing agencies were hoping that Baker would be the next "Wrangler Jeans" QB after Favre and Brees, but it just wasn't meant to be. He'll be a back-up from here on out. No one is going to give him another shot.

Mike Pettine was terrible as well. Baker wasn’t the Browns issue. They have a stacked roster and their current scrub coach still can’t get it done. He will be fired wait and see. Nick Wright, I've been a fan, but you smoking that skip Bayless today..first off he did not break his throwing shoulder. The injury was to his non throwing shoulder. Blame his accuracy if you want, but his decision making was still GOD AWFUL. Cleveland gave him all the tools to succeed, but he wasnt ready to take the team where they needed to go within the alotted time frame. Secondly you keep saying he won Cleveland the playoff game, I say the Cleveland defense at the time would have a lot to say about that. The Browns DEFENSE is what won that game. You could have put Helen Keller at QB that game and they still win it. Steelers spotted Browns like 3 touchdowns… they just had a horrible game. Just sayin that Baker didn’t carry the Browns to that win.

As a baker fan…this is the best thing that could’ve happened to him. I never was a fan of this hire. Rhule didn’t do enough in college to get this job imo, especially for the amount of money he signed for. Never thought he was a good nfl coach, as well as I didn’t see Darnold or baker succeeding with him as the coach.

Nick is wrong. An injury can’t be devastating and the primary cause for a detailed career if you can still tough it out and play. You can’t tough out a devastating injury. Derrick Rose couldn’t tough out his torn ACL. I’m not dumb enough to say the injury didn’t play some negative role, but come on. Sometimes playing through an injury that you shouldn't have played through can be more devastating than the injury itself especially when it can affect your throwing. We see it with pitchers in baseball all the time that playing with injuries can change your mechanics and either cause more injuries or get you out of rhythm, sometimes permanently. Dunno if that happened to Baker but right now the evidence is mounting because after the injury and he played through it was a shell of himself last year and this year his mechanics just look completely out of whack. Playing last year might have been the worst thing Baker could have done.

I feel Baker come into the NFL as the underdog he had many coaching change including when they got rid of Freddie Kitchens, this guy had to adjust to so many changes I hear more sports analysis complain more than Baker does. His time in Cleveland wasn't the best experience now sports media gonna run him out Carolina as well. Carolina ranking for offensive Line etc Carolina wasn't in the power rankings as a top 10 team but that's Baker fault as well

Both Mayfield and Darnold should be evaluated without Matt Rhule. With the QB position, the agenda should be to do no harm (ala Cooper Rush) rather than making things happen. Fix the line and get the rushing game going to balance the receivers.

What should happen is Sam Darnold now takes over, and if he is A TICK better than what Baker was, he gets to start for the rest of the season, because nobody really wants to see Baker play again. He has built up no good will in Carolina, he has no base of support, and his play was awful.

Even if Baker flames out in Carolina, he's not gonna be in the NFL anymore??? He'd be a solid back up for at least 6 to 8 more years. Good back ups will always cause ppl to talk when the team starts losing. Look at Fitz. Everybody loved Fitz. He was never the answer anywhere he went, but he always made a difference when he had his number called. I believe Baker has a lot of football left in him, and even after, he'll be great in the booth.

Nick! How tf can you keep bringing up *ONE* playoff win for Mayfield like it's a huge achievement, then repeatedly say "Josh Allen hasn't proven *ANYTHING?"* Mayfield got that ONE win 2 years ago, the same playoffs where Allen won TWO games, then followed it last year winning another game & playing pretty much perfect across TWO games.... How come Allen has proven "nothing" to you with 3 x the post season wins + far better stats, but Mayfield deserves your undying support with 1 win? 🤣
