Sarah Aviram worked remotely from 12 countries in 12 months while researching the future of work as a Human Resources leader for a New York-based tech company. In this talk, she reveals the surprising opinion that remote and hybrid work policies are only short-term solutions for real challenges. Sarah shares what those challenges are and how you can thrive at work - no matter where you’re located.
Sarah Aviram is a former Fortune 500 Human Resources and Talent Development leader. After working remotely from 12 countries in 12 months in 2019, researching the future of work, she published the best-selling book, "Remotivation: The Remote Worker’s Ultimate Guide to Life-Changing Fulfillment." Sarah is an international keynote speaker and workshop facilitator for organizations globally on the topic of motivation in the new era of work. She has created and delivered leadership development programs and processes to over 50,000 people at companies like Google, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, and Bank of America, and her alma mater, New York University Stern School of Business.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

At my job, working in the air cargo industry, I have a certain amount of freedom as a team lead. As long as I'm pushing people, and putting out brush fires, all is good. There really isn't a lot of room for growth where I work, and in a sense I'm okay with that. I'm not a type that does well with a lot of change (I praise anyone who embraces it!) or uncertainty. A team lead is a good spot for me. What I used to hate were jobs that pidgeon-holed me because I was really good at something.

Such a coherent way of explaining something so easy to digest and comprehend. It leaves me wanting more anecdotes. Sarah's way of describing a subject that everyone has questions about, makes me feel like I can definitely achieve my goals. Thanks so much Sarah! I truly enjoy this.

I couldn't relate to this more! "If you hate your job in Houston, you will hate it in Hanoi." If you can't work at your dream job, it also helps to separate your job from yourself. If it's not your dream job, DO NOT let it become your identity. Aligns with building a different relationship - "building a better path forward together", like you said

Mental health struggles though can happen anywhere and everywhere. On the deeper level it doesn’t matter where you are if you don’t feel whole and home within yourself …it won’t matter. She simply took that and applied it to work culture and work life. Which is big pain point for people. The sentiment works for a lot of aspects of life. I understand the taking for granted travel POV …yet everything you experience in life tires and when it tires… you have no choice but to go within. Thanks Sarah …you got a good conversation going. Goes beyond the work place !
