And you would alternate safe shot first for a hole and the next hole start with your aggressive shot. That way you don’t just always benefit from the “second swing improvement”.

For me every shot i change my mind on club choice increases error rate.whether it was to hit easy or hard,low or high changing my intial choice after looking things over more critically 90% of the time its short or long.mental game is the toughest part of golf after 55 years of this game off and on ive learned to trust my first impression and stick with it.

I always try to tell people whatever shot you chose, commit to that shot fully. In the end if its wrong you can review that thought process but commit to the shot you chose and follow through.

I really hope you read my comment. It would be so cool if you played two balls at the same time so it’s the same elements but playing aggressive versus conservative. Then your awesome editor plays each hole back side-by-side so we’re watching you hit each at the same time and able to compare the past to sinking each hole.

I honestly believe that you should play more of your rounds this way. It seems like you have much more fun and less thinking into every shot. Plus I think you’re getting better looks at birdie playing that way. Especially your putting because you’re goin after everything. I love it

You have crazy distance with driver but don't use it as a advantage in tournaments like tour players

Know when to be aggressive, that’s the key. Also, with your long game, I would be practising 90% of the time on 125 and in otherwise it’s pointless having the length. When you look at George and Wesley, they have super sharp short games and that’s the difference you have to make up.

I think for better players being aggressive can be beneficial in certain situations. But for mid to higher handicappers, being more conservative with course management is a huge key to lower scores

I have done it where I play 1 ball with driver and 1 ball 2 iron then play then out to see what scores better. I’m not good enough to be consistent but would make a good comparison for you.

I was a scratch golfer 30 years ago. Now about a 9 handicap. I try to avoid water and OB. I'll be aggressive if it's pretty open. My favorite course has an open side on every hole.

I play aggressive off the tee, which is what I am best at and then determine what I will do based on where I am. But even in your video you see some of those putts drop or some closer wedge shots you are easily under par. So, what it teaches me is being aggressive off the team gives me a few more chances per round but you have to finish make those up and downs

I like to play aggressive ONLY when the situation is right. For instance, if you're down wind and you can carry bunkers etc, why not. Or if you have to have a shot in a match or tournament. But when I want to score, I think like Zac Johnson. I play the hole backwards. If you have a complex green and/or the greens are hard, requiring spin.. you need a full shot in to get the spin you need to hold greens and control your shot shape. PERIOD! unless your short game is at Fredrick Lindbloms level. I try to hit specific distances off the tee which give me a full shot in. Anything from 100 to 175 is perfect for me. Keep up the grind, great stuff! P.S, the more tournaments you play, the easier winning becomes due to sheer experience of the moments you need. Cheers!

Sometimes aggressive may be good. With water behind a green, on a par 5, I now lay up to wedge in. I have cooked a 5W and a 4I over the back on my second shot. So I have learned😊

I'd like to see the other side. Shoot a round as safely as possible. For every shot, choose the shot that you KNOW you will hit as intended. Not "I feel pretty good about this.". Not "I think I can make that.". Not "This is probably fine for me." Safe shot-choices that you know for a fact will fall where you want them to. If you're not saying "Well, of course I can hit it there.", then club down or pick a different target. This will functionally make most of your shots be the intended shot as the course was designed. Maybe some safer, maybe some further, but if you choose every shot as a for-sure and putt normally, you will do fine. You'll probably score better than always being aggressive & risky. Even if you don't, it'd be interesting to see what the different mindset is like when shooting definite & comfortable shots throughout. Anyway, I'd like to see it. :)

Great video Micah. make this a series. I play in my local skins game Thursday- Sunday. And I usually just play down the middle shots nice and smooth swing. But I feel like I should just go for green on a lot of shots, or try and get as close as possible. When i try and play it safe and I start gaining strokes on my score I say what the he’ll just go for it now. And I get better results just get nervous to do it all the time. But keep up the content I would like to see this more. Maybe like when you do tournaments play a safe shot and then a second shot going for it to see where you stand. Or just two different round in one video to see how this will play in to your game!

I think you had the right idea in "you play aggressive until you can't." You've got huge power and distance, but if you don't use it every where you can, than you can't take advantage of it. I think the key is being aggressive until you get into trouble, then you have to make the smart play to mitigate the mistakes. You pointed out exactly what I was thinking where you tried to go under the tree, where, had you just aimed left of the green, you could have given yourself a chance for birdie. One thing that seemed to come through in the video was that you playing "aggressive" also seemed to be you playing fast. Those should not be the same. Being aggressive should not take you out of your normal established rhythm. Do more of these videos. I think that this is what championship Pro golfers do.

Smart before aggressive, especially in FL, too much trouble lurking. Hole locations and green complexes are key. A front pin to an elevated green you’d rather a full 100yd shot in right?

Your distance is your advantage over most of your peers...i feel like if you can pull off playing more aggressive and take advantage of it then it will help somewhat negate what you lack in your short game

I would say it is quite simple. The better you control your swing (the better golfer you are), the more you will benefit from playing aggressive. If you have no control over your swing (not so good golfer) the more you will be in trouble from playing aggressive, and instead benefit from playing short and straight.

Micah, you are an athlete. But what I enjoy the most is your thoughts, assessments of execution and insightful criticism. I find it both entertaining and educational. I tend to be conservative because I don't have a long drive capability. But, once near the green, I go for it. Results vary.

Golf is like Blackjack in the sense of when to be aggressive is when the game allows you to. You pull out driver when you are losing like a Martingale bet double everytime you lose and you end up going broke. You should be more aggressive on drivable Par 4 and other scenarios like that because the course is allowing you to score if you pull the aggression trigger. You always play it safe unless you are down. Try doing it when you aren't down that day and tack on extra birdies.

Make it a point to never be short on anything for a whole round, from tee to green. You miss 100% of shots that you leave short.

There is a fine line about being aggressive and going for it when you shouldn't... Everything depends on the course itself... When I was younger and could smoke a driver... There were times that, because of the hole layout, I had to use my 3 wood or long iron because of hazards nearby.... Now that I'm older and don't hit it as far, I can use my driver more often

I play off 14 HC. I play semi conservative mainly on the holes i get my extra stroke on. When probably I should be doing the opposite and playing aggressive on those.

I like this. When I was in college (‘96-‘00) I had fast CHS (124mph) and I played ULTRA aggressive, and averaged 104. 😄I starting playing “green to tee box” in 2001, and broke 100, 90, and 80 (only once) by 2004. I’ve played that way ever since. I stopped using driver on every par 4 and started playing hybrids, or 2i for placement. BUT… it seems todays pros are using analytics to determine if it is worth abandoning “position” golf for “grip it and rip it.” So this series is very intriguing as I look at my 2023 strategy.

*Thoughts after the video:* Okay, I was having some PTSD flashbacks to my old days, lol. But you’re still a better player than I’ve ever been. 😄 But you mentioned a great point on #9 walking to the green; *your short game has to be on point to play aggressive.* My short game years ago was atrocious. So I could bomb it 325 yards with my 9* King Cobra deep face, but I left myself with a short yardage I was unfamiliar with (say, 47 yard touch chip over a bunker to the green). Well, back then, I’d normally skull my chip or chili-dip it into the bunker. Before I knew it, I was on the green putting for bogey. Missed putt, tap in for double. I think there’s a time and place for aggressive golf if you’re a weekend player like myself that doesn’t practice as much anymore. But SHORT GAME will have to be honed more to allow my driver to really be an advantage. I can’t swing 124mph anymore (closer to 115-118 max), but with driver/shaft tech I’m longer now than 20 years ago. My biggest take aways: 1. Short game, short game, short game. 2. Know when to take your medicine (the hole with the shot under the tree over the lake).

When John Daly came on tour, he was markedly longer than other golfers. He surprised us all by winning then he listened to other golfers who said he should play a 3 wod or iron off some tees. What that did was put him where they were. That was the end of his advantages of length.

I play aggressive when i have the opportunity to do so, but my control isn't the best so i mostly try to play smart and adapt depending on the situation.i would say being aggressive everytime is good if you have a good control of most of your shots and distances but that's hard to do in my case.

it absolutely does...What happens is subconsciously the brain doesn't want to go into "shoulda coulda woulda land" and the brain worries that if you go aggressive you'll regret it and in hindsight wish you played it safe..... But the reality is "played it safe" isn't guaranteed either.

He’s been floating from -3 to +3 pretty often. He should take Bryson’s advice of playing from the front tees and learning to go low. I think it would also take care of his FOGL. Just a thought. He can do whatever, I’m sure he has a coach that is more helpful but if anything it would be good content.

This looks like your game from previous years. Use driver as you have the distance and accuracy. There are some holes meant for aggresiveness and some conservative play especially on 2nd shots. Not every holes are easy for birdies but good on/off for a par. Good luck and god bless !

This is how you gotta play man! As good as you hit ur driver you need to take advantage of that!! A lot of players can hit a 2 iron of the tee like you like to do but not many can drive the ball 350

yeah off the tee is the only aggressive change you should make in my opinion.. everything else in your game is solid... i just think the 70 yard 2nd shot is way better probability of your success than a 130 2nd shot from hitting a 2 iron.. i agree with more driver v.s. 2 iron

You should play 2 balls, one with 2 iron or higher, and the other with driver / woods where you can. That's the best way of telling Edit: I hope this video highlights that your wedge game is stopping you from shooting 5 under every single round you play. Your up and down percentage from 70 yards and in is really poor for someone if your calibre.

I do like this content a lot.. However your thoughts on how aggressive is view is a little different than mine.. You have great length but you don't have to cut a corner or put yourself in danger of going into water or behind trees . Hit your driver to 100 yds or 60 yards. From there you should be close enough for your bird.. I would like to see you do a vid where you hit your 2nd shot from 100 to 60 yds out and your 3rd shot from the same distance on par 5's.. Just play the par 3's normal.. Could you shoot under par?

The most important thing, regardless how you end up playing it, is COMMIT to the shot, be CONFIDENT in the shot....if you aren't those things then it doesn't matter, you won't score well.

I’d like to see Tig not just take driver off the tee more but actually go after it and swing confident/free. I think he gets timid on the tee sometimes and tries to control it which is no bueno. Make a connection with your target and step on it! Super happy to see this though, hope he keeps with a more aggressive mindset. I think that is what he needs to get to the next level
