a majority of mania players dont even play ranked maps now, all the star rating nerfs and dodgy BNs really ruins the fun of pp farming

there are some normal maps here and there, but not rly enough to overshadow the LN maps. personally don't like mint's maps tbf

Imo the pp system in standard is good. the 1 thing i hate about the pp system is that if you miss it can give still give alot of pp or barely give anything depending on where you miss on the map

I'd say that std has their priorities straight if even stew says that players there value high effort plays

Even if mania awarded pp for long notes as if it were rice, it still doesn't fix the original biggest problem being that pattern difficulty is not measured at all and star rating and pp is basically directly proportional to density. Obviously though pattern difficulty is really hard to measure accurately considering etterna often produces very under or over weighted ratings all the time

I remember when I started playing osu mania, where the old farm maps required raw skill that didn't involve LNs, whenever I look at the ranked/qualified section and check some maps, it's either a 1:1 ratio with rice:LN notes, or there is double (or even triple) the LNs than there are normal notes. Hurts to see honestly.

I really miss the early era of osu!mania to late 2021. It was a time where there was no overinflated ln maps and each top play you made felt like a real accomplishment. Sucks that the maps in the ranked section now takes out the satisfaction of farming

dare i say pp count can get to cause problems with certain people specifically (for example rank 2k global, however the skill in question would be of a 3 digit)

Honestly from what I can see the only pp system that works right now is the standard pp system. Mania, taiko and ctb all seem to be dead in terms of pp, especially mania. Saying the standard pp system is the best pp system is funny considering how many people complain about it.

i for one completely stopped caring, especially because i dont like the fact that theres a 'meta' for earning pp - a system judging a persons skill in a game full of variety like osu! should not have overweighted and underweighted playstyles

Osu mania pp doesnt mean shit anymore now that most top players are quitting it just feels like theres nothing else to accomplish most people back then wanted to be better than another but now its just "who cares i play for fun" now so its kind of pointless to farm now

best take so far, and i have to agree with you too. nowadays it feels like there's a competition for "who can make the most inflated map" or "the most difficult ln map there is to play", it starts to become stale after a while
