Nico Collins didn’t come out of nowhere. He wins routes at a high rate, check his reception perception stuff from last year and his PFF grade. Tank Dell was my top WR sleeper in the 2023 draft. Guy has super quick feet and is explosive out of breaks. Dalton Schultz is the number 3, and he’s a top 10ish receiving TE. Laremy Tunsil on that OL. Bobby Slowik comes from the Shanahan tree. He’s been great as well. Stroud has been very good, and elevates his surroundings so far, but this isn’t an offense full of bums.

I agree. And how come people always have to put one player down because another player is doing well? How come both can't be doing well in the future? Reminds me of Chargers and Dolphins fans. Look how silly they've all looked recently from the bickering of who drafted the best QB. Both are doing well.

You wouldn't have said this at the end of last season. I lived in Houston and they were in the bottom 3 in terms of talent according to many NFL talent evaluators. Stroud has made these guys look a lot better. Their new coach has helped as well. Their O-line is still lousy. Give Stroud a true #1 WR, improve the O-Line, and watch what happens. I don't think for a second that Stroud would not have made any difference had he played on the Panthers. Their talent level is very poor, but Stroud would have certainly outperformed Young.
@alexhussey1308
@alexhussey1308 4 ай бұрын
@@888drpepper I just went back and looked at the mock drafts I did last year and I took Tank Dell in at least half of them. It’s easy to do that when the player is projected to go late, but I was all over him, Michael Wilson Jr & Sam LaPorta, those were like auto drafts for me in the middle-late rounds. Then I looked at my rankings for wide receiver groups right before the draft, and I had the Texans in D tier, with KC, JAX (low on Ridley), ATL & NO. I actually put them above the Ravens, which was obviously before they drafted Flowers. But I put the Panthers in their own tier at the bottom called “the Panthers.” My point is that there was potential there for the Texans. I drafted Nico Collins in my main fantasy league this year in the last round as well. As far as the offensive line goes, the actual talent is good I think, but to be fair they were super injured especially at the start of the year. From what I’ve heard though, Slowik adjusted really well to that and prioritized the protection on his play calls. Both Stroud and Young were good in college at avoiding sacks, and it helps when you have great receivers too, who win quickly and give you options to get the ball out. The Panthers tackles have been better than I think people give them credit for, but they’ve had some tough assignments. The missing piece is just the scheme/coaching and the fact you really only have the one guy worth covering. I hated Mingo as a prospect, and Chark is a personal favorite but he’s looked awful ever since injuries derailed his career. I think Frank Reich’s a better coach than given credit for too, but he’s not great at elevating offensive talent. Bryce has also dealt with interim coaching for a decent chunk of the year given Reich’s historically quick firing. I agree Stroud probably makes the Panthers look better, and in general I think he was a higher floor prospect to begin with, given the lack of size concern, and the accuracy. But Young has good traits that just haven’t been cultivated at all. I think it would be fun to see Bobby Slowik hired to coach the Panthers to get a good comparison.

Panthers won 7 games last year. They did that while Mayfield, Darnold, Walker would sometimes throw for less than 150 yards. Bryce Young is fully capable of throwing for 150 yards. The difference is the scheme/coaches. You can say experts had Stroud ranked higher than Bryce. But nobody had Tommy DeVito and AOC ranked higher than Bryce. Yet they've played better than Bryce. The kid was hamstrung by a horrible offensive line and Reich's atrocious scheme. Go look at how much Bryce's intended air yards have increased, how his completed air yards per completion have increased since Reich was fired. Mind you, he's still not getting help from the WRs in terms of YAC or being able to catch. But please tell me how CJ Stroud is pulling off what he's done in Houston when the offensive line can't block and Reich's scheme didn't have the QB attempting deep passes. Maybe we'll get to see Bryce run the same offense Stroud has success with when the Panthers hire Slowik next year

Bryce show some flair when he had time to show it this season but it far in between. He is getting kill in every snap because the OL is terrible and the WR can't separate from the defense to help Bryce out. And when Bryce in those rare moments put the ball for an easy catch the WR drop it. Bryce is also the problem but not the main problem. His footwork need to improve and knowing when to get out of a collapse pocket. Funny the defense was playing great when the offense was bad but when the Panthers offense is clicking the defense can't stop anyone. It just crazy being a Panthers fan this year.

The Panthers are the new Detroit Lions/Cleveland Browns. Factory of sadness, dumpster fire and crap cannon all in one place. Bryce Young is a lot like Jordan Love and LIKE Love, the best place for him to have gone was a place he could sit and learn, absorb the culture, learn at a reasonable pace and take the helm when he's ready. The game got crowed when he is on this field, with BIGGER GROWN MEN. With CJ....Frank Reich would still be the coach and Panthers would have won their division with 8 or 9 wins at least. Bryce is only accurate up to 10-15 air yards. Anything over that....he's historically bad. Meanwhile....CJ flat out loves to throw in that 15-20+ yard frame and can do it any level of the field. Be it flats, seams, mid field, deep etc. Bryce can't. When ya have guys like Chark, TMJ and Mingo at wideout...you need a guy who can send it (on target) 20 yards through the air. Bryce literally won a Heisman throwing screens and dumpoffs. That's not gonna work in the NFL every single possession. This is why Theilen (in the slot) was his best/favorite target. He just ran a bunch of out routes within 10 yards. Everybody else was just too far down field where Bryce can't throw or even see them at times

Panthers have been trying to trade for Tee Higgins. Well he is a FA now and they must have lots of firepower (really where else is the cap currently spent up?). Higgins would get to move back closer to his roots and be showcased as a #1WR rather than be considered as in Chase's shadow. I guarantee moving to Panthers vs staying with Bengals opens up a lot more contract money for Higgins moving forward and so I am confident the Panthers get a deal done. Also probably some nice WR options with the Panthers' 33rd pick: could go another native with Devontez Walker UNC, or Keon Coleman FSU (I don't think Kelvin Benjamin should be a comparison).

i doubt that. The Panthers had to start 15 different OL configurations over the season due to key contributor injuries. They started the same OL the season they went to the SB. The texans have been rebuilding for YEARS. Yes, they also dont have a good roster, but it is better than the Panthers. The panthers have absolutely nothing. Nothing. Not only that, there is chaos everywhere you look. It's completely rotten. I dont buy for a second that cj stroud's situation is comparable at all. I'm not saying Bryce is better, but you really cannot compare, despite the texans not being a loaded roster either. I do think that when a kid is going to a team as bad as the panthers, to survive the situation he would have to be Elite at SOMETHING. Elite arm, elite athetisism (like the way justin fields suvived in an AWFUL 2022 bears roster). Bryce is a good overall prospect that ended up in the worst possible situation for a kid that is good at alot of things, but not elite in any specific area. Just a terrible fit. Richardson would've been a better fit simply because he would've been able to create on his own for a while. I'm not sure Stroud would have been able to stand out, although not being tiny would help. Given the absurdly bad fit Bryce is for the specifics of the panthers roster, i do lean towards believing the narrative that tepper probably overruled the coaches

There is no way Houston had more talent then carolina. The only reason Carolina had the first pick was because they traded down for the number 1 pick. They were originally supposed to pick number 9. That means that there were 8 teams worse then them. Bryce young is unfortunately an awful qb that had an awful season. If you didn't see it, then run back the tape, he played bad. If you see the games, which I did, you can't blame his teamates, it was him that had really bad plays that cost his team to lose. Don't blame the "lack" of talent. Nobody in Houston was a superstar and the team made the playoffs and won a game. Bryce young is a bust, and the sooner the panthers realise they made a mistake, the sooner they will get rid of him and be in a better situation.

i agree, he has so many intangibles that are just bad. lack of height, arm strength, processing ability. then there's things he needs tons of work on, like footwork and pocket presence. he's a bust, and probably the worst pick in NFL history considering what the panthers gave up to get him and the fact that they missed out on stroud.

@@sputnee not true. I’m a fan of Panthers. I watch every game. Yes the Oline is bad, but whenever Bryce does have time, he still over throws or under throws his WR’s. Any of the other QB’s would’ve been better. He can’t throw the long ball because he doesn’t have the arm and well the Oline does suck. The play calling is terrible. The whole team is bad but the WR’s are good enough to catch the ball if we had a better QB. If Dalton would’ve started, I would bet a whole years salary of my money betting we would have more than 2 wins.

For anyone who exonerates Bryce young. What all world weapons does CJ stroud have. He has a few guys that might be wr 2/3 on a good team. They just look better than they are because CI is a good QB. Theilen isn’t who he used to be but he isn’t a scrub. Why is it that Carolina has a dumpster fire team while the Texans don’t They both don’t gave great weapons. Both a good young pass rushers. CJ is just better and Bryce is a midget Qb with no special physical traits. They missed the pick. Call a spade a spade

Bryce Young isn’t a bust yet, but he really needs to figure out how to create lanes to throw through and how to not throw off his toes. He’s dropping back 3 steps out of shotgun just to see the field, so yeah he’s going to get sacked putting that much strain on an oline. He has a good mental and he’s tough, but I need to see some physical talent for more than 2 drives a game before he’s not a bust. You can’t score 11 TDs in a season and blame the team. Andy Dalton would’ve scored more 100%.

For his size, Bryce has amazing arm talent. But nothing about his game tells me it’s going to translate to the NFL. In the NFL he’s not nearly as elusive, his arm talent is average at best and he’s small and frail as fuck. I think his entire goal was surviving the season without a major injury so he didn’t get labeled like Tua did. Realistically he should have been a late round draft pick. But Bama gonna Bama. Same for Mac Jones.

I'm not saying Bryce is a bust, but his size is not something that you can change. I've watched him Super Mario jump to see over the line to throw. That's party because the Oline is getting stood up and beat by mid defenses. Carolina is fkd for years.

Are we seriously still on the size/durability concern bullshit??? Bryce has proved his size is a non-issue. He's the only rookie starting QB from his class that hasn't suffered a severe injury. He had an ankle sprain week 3 and was out the following week, but came back the game after that. All this even behind our trash line which has let him get sacked 58 times!

If you think being a bottom 6 QB in the league is a non-issue than you should be hired to run the panthers. Show Tepper how to truly tank an organization. Yeah but with that in mind they were playing quite well for 3rd stringers and when you compare Houston the O line stats to the Panthers O line stats the Houstons look like they have an all pro line up. but when you put that in conjunction with Wrs that separate and are built fast then he doesnt need as much time to throw.
