Disclaimer: It is illegal to shave your bat. Not just from a league rules standpoint, but likely from a state/federal criminal stand point. If someone were to get injured by your shaved bat then you will could face real prosecution. We condemn the use of shaved bats for any purpose. This video is for informational purposes only in helping leagues understand the prevalence of shaved bats.
Here we test a shaved bat vs a non shaved bat. These are two identical bats but one has been shaved and the other has not. We found the shaved bat way outperformed the non-shaved bat. In our HR derby we found it hit 10 home runs to a normal bats 6. In terms of total distance it wasn't really close. Exit speeds

I just tested this on my sandwich. I found that if you use less ham, the sandwich is actually lighter, but I could eat it faster.

I thought the main purpose of shaving a bat was not necessarily to make it lighter but to make walls of the barrel more flexible giving it more trampoline effect, and more pop

Yea when I went to Cooperstown 3 kids on my team never hit a homer before so they decided to shave their bats. They were now crushing balls over the fence because of the bat but a naked eye would think the kids were good. I was over here using a very legal bat and hit 2 homeruns. Its disgusting

My travel team all uses Easton Ghost X’s same batting gloves everything so I don’t know if it’s just some teams do that but obviously we don’t shave our bats

2017 Demarini CF Zen is a hot bat in 5 Drop. My son's U13 team went up against a team that the first 5 kids used the same bat and each proceeded to warning track the hits to LF & CF. That bat was juiced and my son's team was crushed

Guys all over softball fields across the nation buy 300 dollar bats then invest 150 bucks more to shave and roll an alloy. Back in the day you would never ever see a man wearing a hockey helmet, catcher shin guards and a protective vest while pitching. Now the balls are juiced and the bats keep getting faster and scientifically better, harder, stronger. Its absolutely nuts.

I agree 100% shaving or any tampering is pathetic but the balls hit in slowpitch now days aren't a fraction of the cor or compression of 20 years ago now all the bats are hotter and the balls are softer.

It's not that much to get a bat cut, nor are new bats that much. And no one cuts alloy bats. Mostly composites

About $85 to cut and roll a bat. Can’t shave Alloy. It’s a competitive advantage......until you get caught. Then it’s called cheating.

Why not use wood? I think all kids need to go back to wood or composite. Especially after age 12. EDIT: when I say composite, I mean wood composite not metal. Also new bat regulations for metal have the made them very close to wood in ball flight. Still nothing like the sound or feel of wood when you hit it right.

Most of the team's in Cooperstown dreams park have a shaved bat. If a player cant hit it out of those ball parks with a regular bat, then they suck! Much props to the kids who are the real deal and hit dingers with normal bats.

After having my daughter’s 2019 LOUISVILLE PXT shaved (only) professionally at the “aggressive” level, I got it back and hit it a few times with a ball mallet and rotated the bat throughout the process but now sounds like there’s a little sand in it. Send it back.. it's done for! Nah man it's not! Be very careful using that in ASA/USSSA events.... Most of the time they have a compression tester on site and if they suspect tampering they will test the bat and eject the player for game/season/life.... Depending on leagues rules. The bats fine I'm sure they just left some Slag in there from the Lathe.

Shaving the bat is illegal in most leagues but also if you hurt someone because of it....i.e. line dive, shattering it...etc. it is also a criminal offense. It's just not worth it.

Strange. The bat hit, music notes for the bats is D and F, tone change from shaving the bat. I'm guessing the higher the note the less the bat weighs.

My man said that shaving a bat makes it swing faster which it does but it makes the bat more holo and takes out the shaving that makes the bat heavier and makes the ball for more of a trampoline effect so if u hit a ball 250 with a normal bat a shaved bat will give up to 50- to even 90 more feet so u actually could hit it like 300-330

A shaved bat is the next best thing to taking steroids. It's a well kept secret and I'm pretty sure every guy in the softball league I play in has had their bats shaved. Why am I wasting my time lifting weights trying to build strength the natural way to gain distance? If I'm the only guy on the field with a unshaven bat I'm at a huge disadvantage. I will be looking into finding someone who will turn my bat into a ball crushing weapon of mass home run destruction.

Dude your swing is fine and it's obvious that these guys hating probably hit a double in JV ball once and quit the team cause the guy playing their spot on varsity had the "last name" and got "special treatment." I'm confident in saying I know baseball well and have played, coached, and studied baseball enough to tell you that have no reason to question your abilities.

You have to get it done on a machine. Most end up buying a shaved bat from a company that does this. We have an article on our site. It is highly illegal, btw. Just so you know, it is not just against most league rules. But, likely, against state and federal rules too.

Guaranteed... this kid is sneaking the shaved bat into games. I also agree with earlier post regarding teams using only one bat. There’s a reason for it, never a coincidence. Ohio Spiders organization well known for the single bat during game play. They’ve been caught cheating consistently.
