I feel like bobble head with how much I’m nodding in agreement over here.

This scene left me very confused, because best case scenario is that Christine just wants to see if they might last before making ‘them’ official. But then, Spock is literally still engaged, like THAT should be what they discuss first, not Starfleet regulations (which as far as I know there weren’t any in the decades Trek exists, so SNW basically invented those fraternization regulations specifically for Spock and Christine like… why). Upon rewatching though, none of that seems to bother either of them, like after Christine ends their weird conversation with ‘Your move’ Spock seems more than content… The writers definitely need to figure this mess out before it becomes frustrating, the whole ‘secret relationship almost everyone on the Enterprise knows about but Spock fails to mention to his fiancé’ thing sounds less than ideal. :( Don't think they'll break Spapel up any time soon, they've spent too much time building them up for that, but as of now, I have no idea where they're going with them. 😩

Long reply incoming 'cause my thoughts are just as messy as Spapel relationship. xD You know, it’s interesting, 'cause I see T'Pring and how she feels about Spock very differently? I very much get the whole 'overbearing with no boundaries' mother aspect of her and always trying to live up to impossible expectations without ever talking back because of her upbringing and traditions and whatnot. So her actually trying to stand up for Spock seemed like a pretty huge deal for me. Like, even her father didn't do it, but T'Pring did when T'Pril crossed the line (‘Your assessment is not required’ or something like that). While I don't think she loves LOVES Spock as humans perceive love, I think she cares about him very deeply. And she did everything in her power to make it work and try to understand and accept the human side of him - imho to the best of her ability as a Vulcan? Had it not been played mostly for laughs aside from the pirate episode, it probably would have been a beautiful relationship as well. idk like even Sarek in Discovery seemed way colder towards Amanda (can't speak for TOS since I've never seen it). And I don't think there's something with Stonn yet, he seemed more like an easter egg than anything. :D So pretty much what we've seen those 2 seasons is T'Pring trying her damn hardest to make their relationship with Spock work because I think for her that relationship is a combination of a few things: caring about him deeply, caring for Vulcan traditions & probably wanting to be rid of her mother as soon as possible (can't blame her). And we've seen Spock… Ummm… Always promising to do better by her and never coming through because he just doesn't care enough (unlike with Christine) and is just generally happier in Starfleet where he's accepted by default and all. Funnily enough, I literally googled Starfleet fraternization regulations after 2x05 because I was trying to write a short fanfic and… there were never any strict regulations mentioned anywhere? So I was very confused by the scene in 2x06 and I've no idea where they're going with this anymore. I'm glad SNW manages to surprise me every episode, but DAMN with Spapel this messy rollercoaster just never ends. I don't appreciate Christine trying to keep Spock a secret (is it even a secret when Joseph, Erica, Nyota and possible La'an can see right through their bs?). And Spock thinking about Starfleet regulations ahead of thinking about his fiancé (as usual) just rubs me the wrong way. I get that maybe Christine just wants to see where/if it goes anywhere before making anything official (but like end the previous official relationship my dudes), but if by the end of the season they don't figure their mess out… As much as I love Spapel, they both need to get their shit together. They can't just endlessly go from risking their lives for each other one episode to ‘if there’s anything to tell’ the next. Dragging out will they/won't they storylines never worked anywhere and I really don't want to end up frustrated with this ship. Like, letting the ship just be happy is way harder to come by because it's actually harder to write than emotional swings. Angst is easy, happy healthy relationships aren't.

@@ForsakenWwitchery Thanks for the reply! For me the whole not going to Starfleet is more that Starfleet doesn't make the best judgment calls (red tape). Like how they discriminate against Illrians. How they have to steal the Enterprise to save La'an, etc. So I think Chapel's reluctance to go to Starfleet is just that. Spock wants to go since he is about being by the book. This is just Chapel teaching him you gotta bend the rules imo. One ep they risk their lives, next ep it's not discussed. I was pleasantly surprised that there was some shappel in this last ep. Cuz they have a habit of fully doing something in an ep, then next ep nothing. They only have 10 eps, so I get how they can't focus too much on it. But for me it's not messy. It takes time. Spock has been so strict and finally he's figuring out rule following is not all that it's cracked up to be. I doubt T'Pring still lives at home. I'm not sure but the way T'Pring talked about spending time with her mother, seems like a rare thing. Maybe she just did it to prepare for the engagement dinner? I feel like Chapel feels bad about S/T. And I feel like she is being cautious. Spock told her they are taking time apart, he has feelings for another. Chapel got the green light and pursued him. Also the whole fraternizing rule, Kirk would have been fired in TOS cuz he would hit it and quit it like no other LOL! X'D The scene where Uhura tells Kirk she does not wanna be hit on, I think is a joke about how much of a Casanova he was in TOS!

@@taylorwaterman7316 It’s more like one episode there is something, and two or three episodes there’s next to nothing. :D While I do appreciate the scene, it still felt weird. It’s not that Starfleet doesn’t make the best judgment calls, it’s that Christine pretty much said she doesn’t want to let anyone know, not just Starfleet. And this just was super weird since ultimately yeah, she’s the one who pursued Spock and a bunch of people already know or suspect something. I do hope that’s temporary and she comes around to not keeping everything a secret. But that would still require Spock to actually break up with T’Pring first. So again, in Christine’s words about a metaphor, it’s ‘a messy one, just like whatever this is’. One of the things I absolutely love about them is how they’re just a couple of dumbasses when it comes to facing their feelings for each other, but at some point, they just need to fully face them, you know?) Preferably before we get at least a year-long break between the seasons. Oh, I didn’t catch that bit about T’Pring. Yeah, she must not live with her parents anymore. Might also be T’Pring’s way to show T'Pril a metaphorical middle finger.since she doesn’t like Spock. :D Ahhhh Kirk! I’m actually glad I’ve no idea how he’s supposed to be, so I’ve zero expectations and I just loved him this episode. I’ve seen a lot of people complaining because they want more Pike and because Kirk isn’t supposed to be around so much yet (through technically it’s the first time he’s around in their timeline?) And I’m just like… Are we watching different shows? Why would anyone want less Kirk? 😂 And the whole chess nerd thing is somehow adorable.
