I always thought that the servants just didn't age but I never thought about time moving faster in the castle.

I thought so, too. I just assumed that the enchantress decided to keep the servants immortal for a while since it was their king being punished and not them. It would kinda suck if Mrs. Potts passed away before her a**hole ruler learned his lesson. This is a pretty interesting perspective to see it from, though.

I think the most reasonable theory is that the servants' aging was stalled because they were inorganic objects, while Beast continued to age because he was a mamal.

I always figured that was why the servants didn't age because they were objects not living things, but I'm still confused about the part about the beast 21 birthday and the fact that Lumiere said they've been trapped for ten years, I thought that when the beast was cursed he looked about 12 or 13.

This is a hard topic. There is a reason for it. The animators made beast look older even though the writers wanted him younger. That's why he looks older even though he should look 11.

Tru Pype maybe she didn't think of that sometimes I make situations much more difficult for myself and don't think that there was easier solution than I thought of so maybe she was so focused on trying to make Eric fall in love with her she forgot that she could've just wrote or you know ursula could've prevented that and off camera she did try to write or she has a different language and when she wrote it was just translated for us idk

Maybe even though she could comprehend human language, she couldn't wright human language other than her name. If you look closely at Ursula's contract, very few words are written in English. As if Merpeople have their own language.

He should also do a theory on why all the sea creatures in Little Mermaid can talk to people (not just Ariel in her human form) but Eric's dog Max can't. Although in Cinderella, the mice are able to talk, but the rest of the animals aren't. I guess Disney logic isn't as consistent as we think.

I always thought the beast aged faster cause he was changed to animal a aging is faster in some animals like 1 year for us is 7 years for a dog, I loved your theory on the servants though

I always looked at the ten years we've been rusting line as it had been that long since they had a guest. And that time moved differently in the castle via the enchantment and the people forgetting about their Prince. It felt like centuries had passed, not just a decade.

I agree with the servants not aging. But I believe that the Beast was 16 when cursed and 10 years did pass in the castle and the outside world. But since the Beast would've been only 5 years away from his 21st birthday, I think that the Enchantress caused him to age one year for every two so that he'd have more time to break the curse. In short, it took him 10 years to age 5.

I have heard theories about there being a difference in time continuum before. I only recently discovered the theory on how the servants turning into inorganic objects didn't allow them to age, which satisfied most of my confusion regarding the passage of time vs the lack of aging. One of my personal favorite theories on the discrepancy between the song lyrics "10 years we've been rusting" (which suggests the prince was 11 when he was cursed) vs the prince's portrait and the stained-glass windows which portray him as a young man, is a theory that says that Perhaps the Enchantress enchanted the portraits to age alongside the prince. This way, the paintings would act almost as a window into an alternate reality in which he had never been turned in to a beast, and had instead aged as a human.

Great video, as always. Personally, I like to think that the Beast did age during his stay at the castle, starting off as an 11 and ending up being 21. As for the paintings and stain glass windows, during those days people tended to make themselves look more handsome in painting of themselves, kinda like how someone would Photoshop themselves to look hotter in modern times, so I don't see it as that much of a stretch for someone to paint Adam to look like that despite being still a kid. I like the direction the live action movie is going in more where the painting shows this more and is more clear about this. That and don't see the Enchanted Christmas as "canon" to the actual movie. That's just me. For a video idea, how about what you imagine Belle's mom to be like?

The reason why I still say that for the beginning scenes with the stain glass windows and paintings, during those days people tended to make themselves look more handsome in painting of themselves and not really true images of what they actually looked like. Kinda like how someone would Photoshop themselves in a picture to make themselves look hotter in modern times. Even kings and queens of old are extremely guilty of this like King Henry the 8th, for example. So I don't see it as that much of a stretch for someone to paint Adam to look like a fully grown adult despite being still a kid. Carissa Carlson I know that but there is another evidence that proves Adam's curse. In christmas movie there is a flashback of how he was cursed and he's already adult, and that is really cannon. As the live action, it was just a trailer, it's not enough to make conclusions if that happened when he was a child. It only shows he torning a picture when he was a kid. I think all the characters didn't age due to the curse, time was frozen for them and the enchanted rose would bloom for twenty one years and not until he was 21.

One interesting theory I found said that the prince's images in the stained glass windows and in the tattered portrait were enchanted to age alongside him, so that Beast could see what he would look like had he not been cursed. ------- Plus, (and this is if the stained glass windows shown in the prologue are canonically a part of the castle and not just a means to tell the story) the Enchantress was obviously the one to place the stained glass window paintings that detailed what happened. So those portraits would be enchanted too. I doubt Beast and his servants would place those window panes.

Great video! I have a quick question though... If time would move faster in the castle, then how would The Beast age at a slower rate? Wouldn't that technically make his age 26 if he was 16 when transformed? The definition of "time" is, the indefinite continued progress of existence and events in the past, present, and future regarded as a whole. If it's regarded as a whole then how could that all be true? Or maybe he aged at a slower rate because he's not human? Maybe make a video about if Belle and Esmeralda are from the same village (she was seen roaming around reading her book in one of the scenes in The Hunchback Of Notre Dame)? If so, then how would those two movies correlate with each other (or at least explain some events)? Belle made a brief appearance in The Hunchback Of Notre Dame. She walked out of her house and was reading a book, roaming through the streets with her eyes glued on it, as if knowing the directions of the village like the back of her hand. If Esmeralda was considered "the most desirable" woman in her movie, then why did the villagers in Beauty & The Beast also call Belle the most beautiful/desirable?

Wow! This theory is really good. It makes me think of the lyrics from the new song of live action "Beauty and the beast", "How does a moment last forever": "Minutes turn to hours, days to years then gone." Can be this a sign which confirms that time passes faster in the castle? I believe this discrepancy between times is part of the plan. Time really passes faster beyond the castle gates, but the Beast ages by the laws of real time, which is outside the castle (if it can make sense). If we measure time by real passing, there are about 5 years since the curse, but if we measure time by its "cursed" passing, inside the castle, it can be 10 years, as Lumiere says in "Be our guest".

Great video. I love these disney theories. i still think back to what I've heard others say, if he's at an age like that he probably would be scared to let a stranger, no matter what gender or age. Hell I'm 25, and if someone knocks on my door late at night there's no way I'm opening or even going to the door. Chances are even in the day I might not answer it depending who's out there. But this was really great, the time idea makes a lot of sense. Especially for the servants. I always have wondered why did they get cursed too. I suppose so they couldn't leave and tell the world what went on.

please make a video about the beast's past life and his parents. Were his parents possibly dead or were they been out somewhere and didn't return to the castle after learning about the spell? and also who managed the taxes, army and other affairs of the castle while they were under a spell.. like maybe because of the absence of a ruler someone else should have invaded the beast's kingdom.

Yeah, in the movie it kind of feels like Belle and Beast spend several days or even months falling in love. But outside of the castle it seems like only 2 or 3 days pass. So a lot of time passes by in the castle while Beast ages along with the time outside of the castle?

WARNING: THIS COMMENT IS MAINLY NITPICKING ABOUT A SMALL DETAIL: Awesome video, but I think you mean time more slower in the beast's castle, rather than faster. See, if lots of time passed outside the castle, it would seem like only a short amount of time inside the castle. Example: If a few days passed outside the castle, inside the castle, where time moves faster, only a few hours or even minutes could've passed. This is the opposite of what you're describing in this video, so I think you mean time moved slower inside the beast's castle rather than faster. Okay, nitpicking done. Excellent video as always!

That would also explain the psychological torture the Beast has to go through! Usually Hell is depicted as a place where time and space is distorted, and having minutes like hours and days like weeks, who knows how long Beast was sitting there at the end after Belle left in his depressed slump. Heck it could have felt like days! It makes sense!

Okay, here's a theory. What if when the enchantress said the rose would "bloom until his 21st year" she meant his 21s year as the beast. Now I know in Be Our Guest, it was stated that they'd been rusting for 10 years.... BUT what if for the first 11 years, while Beast still had most of his mind, and possibly ego, he kept the palace running as it always had. It wasn't until later he realized how hopeless it all way and he started to just let everything go.

In the 1987 Beauty and the Beast I believe time moves faster inside the castle which is why the Beast doesn't like Belle leaving, like this theory.

One thing to consider perhaps the curse stopped all of them including the beast from aging and he had 21 years from the start of the curse to find someone to love who loves him back and if he didn't he would be cursed to be a beast literally forever (or until someone figured out how to kill him) which would not only explain the lack of age for both the prince and his subjects but make the prince older upon the beginning of the curse (making it less creepy that she cursed him for not helping her) and making it more likely that his parents had passed away and that he was the acting ruler

I always thought it was weird how he has many hundreds of servants in the castle. And there is no sign of the actual furniture. So I have a bit of theory myself... well, more of a hypothesis than a theory because I haven't found any clear evidence yet. I think only the talking furniture are actual servants and all the other moving furniture are actual furniture that just act like robots that follow the orders of Lumière and Mrs. Potts. That would make a bit more sense since Belle and Beast eat of off plates and bowls, with glasses, forks, spoons and knives which would be pretty gross if they are all alive.

So, in other words, Beasts physical and psychological change would have been similar to Pleasure Island’s donkey transformation and the Night Howler effect. Maybe this primordial reversion curse is a recurring thing in the Disney Universe.

Actually according to Disney he doesn't age. They don't like the "Theory" that he was eleven when cursed. That's why "Until his twenty first year" and "Ten years we've been rusting" are removed from most stage productions and the new live action movie. Beauty and the Beast the Enchanted Christmas shows that they did not age.

This always tripped me up. The 'ten years we've been rusting' line and the portrait Beast rips showing him before the transformation always confused me. My theory for Chip was that he was a REALLY tiny 10-year-old lol

In a prequel, he was shown to be in his late teens. Chip was also around when that happened which means everyone in the castle aged more slowly than everyone else outside.

But now I remembered something that kinda recongs this theory. In the Enchanted Christmas, Belle is the first one to notice its Christmas eve. Since shes an outsider unaffected by the curse, is she right? Time passes differently for her than the rest of the castle. But does the timelaps impact her on castle property? This is my biggest problem with Disney sequels, they open continuity potholes. Sometimes you'll just scratch your head, other times you'll say "there's no way that could have actually happened!"

It makes sense since the prince was turned into an animal, everyone else turned into furniture. Unlike animals, furniture doesn't age.

this makes so much sense! if time passed quicker in the castle, it would mean that it did feel like months spent there for Belle, getting to know the Beast. and it would explain why nobody had noticed Belle had gone missing and why they weren't wondering where she went until Maurice told everyone in the beer hall. wouldn't have someone realized Belle was gone, since every morning would probably be routine (Belle even mentioned in the song Belle "there goes the Baker with his bread like always", so it would be predictable that Belle go around town. but she had been gone for days or months, but nobody had brought up the fact that Belle wasn't in town, not even Gaston, who was infatuated with her. now this has me thinking a lot ohmg.

I forgot in the animated version Maurice falls in the snow but in the live action, Belle sees him being taken into a carriage. I forgot Chip sneaks into Belle's bag. In the animated version the beast shows Belle to her bedroom but in the live action Lumiere & Cogsworth shows her to her room & tells her about the west wing.

Maybe you should should do a video on how Ariel ages. In the first movie she claims she's 16. But in Ariel's beginnings and the T.V. series set before the movie she looks the same age, she'd have to at least be 14 or as young as 13 in that timeline. So do merpeople age slower. In the original Hans Christian Andersen book, it's said that merpeople live 500 years (unless killed) but then dissolve into sea phome and cease to exist. Also maybe that's why Ariel died young as a human because her human aging and mermaid aging messed up her lifespan. But I'd only support this theory if Ariel was the mother of Cinderella's Prince. I doubt the latter theory because if Ariel's real kingdom was in France (Cinderella is set in France) then why build a wall between the beach and castle in an island that's not even your own? (Little Mermaid 2). However, it is possible that Eric's father was still alive during the events of Mermaid 2. And that the island was a colony Eric and Ariel governed over till they inherited the throne to the kingdom in France. Melody might have died from being stung by a venomous fish. So Ariel and Eric had another child to fill the void.

The servants were transformed into objects. Objects don't really age. They might rust or break, and this is mentioned in the Be Our Guest song. But the whole situation with the servants, I think, is that it's like if objects became sentient, meaning they would not age since they were objects in the first place, although in this case they were humans before.

I have heard many theories on beauty and the beast. and how he was only 10 or 11 when the curse happened. and it just doesn't make sense. your theory makes so much sense. I like this theory a lot.

i think this explains the whole, 10year thing. Cause not many ppl know of the Christmas Special and it show that Beast is not 11years old. Finally i see someone come to say that there might be time manipulation involve in the curse.

This is my theory the servants cannot age because they are pots and pans and inanimate objects. The beast however can age because he still has blood and veins and is alive and breathing. If they have had ten years in that form and beast has to be 21 for the curse to remain that means he was 11 when it happened and belle was probably 10 or 9. About the picture he does look like an eleven year old so time is the same in all parts of France (as the film was set in France) That's my theory...

beast seems to be the only one who aged, my guess is that he's an animal and animals age normally while his servants are all house hold appliances which don't really age they can become broken and rusty but if maintained they can last forever

The beast was suppose to die on his 21 birthday, but also when the last pedal fell from the enchanted rose, the beast took INSANE care for the rose so he's aging, and everyone else's, is slowed.

I think there was a second part in the spell they were trapped in time and were frozen in time then when the spell was broken they were were the same as before but began their lives after the spell.

I think that the reason the beast ages unlike the others is because the others are objects but the beast is a living being.

I would like to point out the pedals on the rose would be completely gone by his 21st birthday so if there were still pedals he still had time.

The servants were inanimate objects so I think that it is possible that they didn't age at all while the Beast did. I also agree with the thought that time may pass faster or at least appear to pass faster for those in the enchanted castle. It's 2017 at the moment. :)
