I really appreciate you both for sharing and explaining so many important details about these two magnificent machines. I wish only that you had played the same demo on both instruments. I noticed you showcased the Yamaha’s bass by playing rather loud and expressive octaves, but did not do that on the Kawai at all, so I have no feel for the Kawai’s bass abilities… Nonetheless, It was a pleasure to hear these two side by side. Thank you, again.

I wish that there were dealers for both near my location (Lehigh Valley PA). Unfortunately not. I am not surprised that you generally favor Kawai. As usual a good video.

A very great video! It helped with my choice for my next piano. I actually come from a Clavinova 675 and had a prejudice that I didn't want another Yamaha CLP. I tested both the CA701 and CLP775 but did like the 701 more. The warmth, depth and above all the touch is absolutely amazing. And so I got the 701!

The grand feel 3 action of the 701 is too light.. You highly likely have problems playing advanced classical music on the acoustic upright, baby grand pianos after studying it mainly on the CA701. It's light the touch isn't firm. It's unsubstantial action

@@verymozarthow many people have the oppurtunity to play a grand piano....let alone afford one.... the action is light thats true...I also prefer my kawai mp11se....

@@actie-reactie that's not the point just about grand pianos, but all acoustic pianos. And to advanced classical music. And if you want to study it seriously, these kawai models should be avoided, because it becomes too easier to play that on the kawai and more difficult on the acoustic. Then you play the grand piano at the diploma exam, or concerts, is more likely to play it not nicely if it's prepared on the kawai digital Pianos with action feel 3

@@verymozart Is Roland's Hybrid Grand or Yamaha's GrandTouch better than Kawai's GF3? Weight-wise? I want to have the digital to practice at home but don't want to stray away too much from the actual feel of an acoustic.

Kawai does a lot more updates than does Yamaha. The CLP7 series is now a few years old. Since then Yamaha has an updated CFX out that they haven't sampled and put into the new Clavinova series. They also haven't updated their P515 and that's overdue for an update IMO. The Yamaha CFX sound is pretty nice, but the virtual CFXs are just richer and people know of Garritan and VSL where I don't know of virtual SK-EX Shigeru pianos. Kawai's renderings may be more complex in some ways. But you're going to get a Kawai sound vs. a Yamaha and Bosendorfer piano sound (I'm focusing on pianos sounds). I would like to see Yamaha offer the Bosendorfer 280VC samples as well as the Imperial. The 280VC is a great sounding instrument IMO. Also, offer the S7X, as that has a more mellow tone than the CF's. Action, again here is where Kawai does more tweaking and updating than Yamaha. It's workable on both but Kawai comes closer to their better acoustics than does Yamaha IMO. Overall, I could work out musically on both but the Yamaha suits my personality somewhat better. It's not that it is better, though. I know Alamo favors Kawai but there is no better here. Just different personalities with Kawai being more updated.

when I listen from my cell, the Yamaha sounds better BUT when I listen from my computer (with Yamaha H7 speakers) the Kawai sounds better (the yamaha sounds more ''plastic''), but not a big difference.... thank you for this demonstration 😀

I bought the CA701. The CLP775 has more “gadgets” than the Kawai if used with iPad such as making a lead sheet or score from your mp3 collection, more “band in a box” features and a few more teaching aids, but to me the Kawai is more of a “pianists piano” with excellent action and sounds. And it also has iPad apps to control it if you want. Even the more expensive CLP785 with the addition of weights to the key action (still a compromise?) doesn’t feel as good to me. But both are fine instruments competing for a similar market. But the Kawai is using more current technology.

What would you say about the ca701's speaker system volume? Felt not loud enough to me

@@ALONSHEADER I have a small music room and it’s loud enough for me for home use. 110 watts (2x55) is plenty for me. 901 has 135w (2x50 +35 for the soundboard) and is a lot more expensive. I couldn’t justify the extra expense for my space and apart from the soundboard it really offers nothing else. And the music stand inside the fall board seemed very annoying as you have to remove the sheet music every time you close it to keep the dust out from falling into the circuit boards. And dust is the demon of electronics. I prefer the 701 sliding lid.

How can you say the action is excellent or pianists like? It's not at all. The sound, yes it's not bad. But the grand feel 3 action of the CA 701 is not nice. It's too light, the touch isn't firm, too lighter than acoustic grand pianos. You might struggle performing advanced classical music on acoustic grand pianos if you study it mainly on the CA701. I wanted to buy it before trying it. It really disappointed me. Now maybe, within my budget I will get the Casio GP510

@@verymozartI set touch to heavy4 in Kawai ca701 and it’s heavy enough compared to acoustic piano, casio keyboard action is okay at some point but sound terrible

@@tommy123098 no it can't be heavier compared to acoustic grand pianos. Sorry but grand feel 3 action is really unsubstantial, you can't play nicely advanced classical music diploma répertoires on acoustic grand pianos if you practice them on the kawai 701/901 only. The heavy setting doesn't change the key weight. The action is not firm. It doesn't have real hammers as the CASIO GP510 has, but only counterweight. You can always change the sound of a digital piano as the one of the CASIO, but you can't never change the weight of the keys, the action. The kawai 701 is not suitable for advanced classical music as it develops problems to play it on acoustic grand pianos. It's too light and spongy and not firm. You don't exercise properly all the memory mussels. The sound is not bad, but that's just it. The action sucks

I heard both in same room with max volume using default piano sound and standard settings for both. Yamaha is much better. Also has a better keyboard... not sure why anyone could be thinking that Kawai is better? But this is up to to personal taste I believe...
