Great video Dave. After watching the video I looked up the dimensions on the Model Y vs the Rav4 vs the CRV and they are all pretty similar. My wife drives a honda passport and I wish the model Y was in this size range. I'm 6"6 tall and recently sat in a model Y and think they are pretty small inside. Thanks.

I love my Model 3 Performance, but this is a terrible comparison. The RAV4 Hybrid starts at $28,350. And, the RAV4 Prime looks like it will be really impressive. I would personally get a Model Y over the RAV4, but I'd definitely recommend the RAV4 Hybrid and PHEV to anyone who is in the market for a crossover.

True. But the cost of owner ship is cheaper. The depreciation is only 10% ( This is the model 3s but the model y will have a very similar depreciation). So they're very simerly priced in fact the model y might actually be cheaper.

Actually the RAV4 Prime price is very similar to the model Y, except you can't find one to buy as they only produced 5000 and if you can find one the prices are way jacked up by the pesky dealers (over 50k)

Great video review, it just let you objectively see the difference between the two cars from a practical standpoint. Personally, I'm trying to decide between these two cars and it's good to see the cargo space visual comparison. Yeah it's not an apples with apples comparison, however family buyers are making real objective decisions on these vehicles. RAV4 Hybrid is half the price of a model Y with more cargo space and practicality. Tesla Model Y is an amazing car and is the future of driving, if you can stretch for one you should.

If you could spare an extra $10,000, I would recommend the Rav4 Prime over the Hybrid. It's a plug-in. You could get the best of both worlds depending on what you're looking for. Local commute vs long traveling. It could potentially hit all the check marks of what you're looking for.

If all you can see is a new product vs the old product, then yes. If you understand cars you would see that Toyota isnt going anywhere for some time, and the two advantages Tesla have are the charging in US and premium appeal. Mercedes is going kill is premium appeal, and to get into other more lucrative markets overseas it will have to share charging tech. So there are more to it than that but Tesla will find out that cars have a 25 yrs life cycle. Not like I 3 yrs iPhone. So people dont buy cars yearly like smartphones and car companies will have to supply parts for damaged cars. All things Toyota is fully equipped for. Tesla maybe we dont know yet.

Not only is this video comparing apples to oranges (BEV vs ICE) it also makes sure the creator's personal Tesla referral link cannot be missed by anybody watching this video. Unfortunately the creator "missed" to mention the difference in the starting prices for both cars shown in the video, the $52,950 for the Tesla as currently available only, and the starting price of $27,250 for the RAV4 XLE (top trim), a whooping $25,700! Dear creator of this video, maybe to you a frunk and the additional storage space in the trunk, provided no spare tire was stored in the space you were showing) are worth some of that much higher cost of a Tesla Model Y but most people who will choose a RAV4, will choose it for other reasons. At a minimum you could have waited until the RAV4 PRIME was available and compare the Model Y with the RAV4 PRIME. Allow me to bring a couple facts a tad closer to the truth.... I'd like to see you charging your Model Y from 20% to 80% for 20-30 hours using the Level 1 charging option plugged into a 110V outlet, the same outlet that you say people use to charge their cell phones with. You must not be driving around in your Model Y too much I guess. If a faster charging is desired or required, e.g for those people with a daily commute of exceeding 50 miles, the US Tesla (or other long range BEV) owner will need to have a 230V outlet for Level 2 charging installed, in accordance to start the new day always with a to 80% charged battery. This convenience of course will set them back by even more money unless a 230V outlet was present at time of the Tesla (or in this matter any other long range BEV) was purchased yet (e.g. a 230V dryer outlet in the garage). The other option is, to take the time for an additional trip to the closest super charger or DCFC, which is more expensive than charging at home. Most people who do not have a 230V outlet installed yet will opt to pay the additional cost, simple for the convenience of getting the long range BEV faster charged, at some point in the future. Let me know how long it takes you to tow a camper or a boat trailer 500 miles with a Model Y and compare that to how long it takes a RAV4 driver, who might have to stop at a gas station for 20 minutes one time to fill up, empty the bladder and grab something to eat or drink. Let me know where you will charge your Model Y in any remote areas when you are running low on battery charge and the last supercharger is 150 miles behind you and there is nothing but a gas station with a 110V outlet available (if you are lucky you may be allowed to use the outlet) and I'll tell you what the RAV4 driver will do. And last but not least, since you are using KZfaq for marketing purpose (your Tesla referral link in the video) and you decided to compare two CUVs, take the time and check out some of the videos showing the RAV4 's Trail Ready (TRD) offroad capabilities and tell me if you'd dare doing that with the shiny Model Y, which btw has a ground clearance of 6.6". Even this significant more expensive version of a RAV4 TRD is still $17,000 less than what one needs to shove over for a Model Y, if a light to medium offroad capability is really desired or required. Don't get me wrong, I'm all pro for BEVs to replace ICEs at some point in the future when a lot of currently still present disadvantages of BEVs vs ICEs or PHEvs will be problems of the paste, things like the initial significant higher purchase price of BEVs, the still not nearly sufficient charging infrastructure and the battery range of BEV CUVs/SUVs.

@@cypvh74 They may not be able to produce 600,000 this year but the demand will likely be there. They have been production constrained worldwide for the Model 3 sedan but they sold 300,000 last year. The Model Y will be much more popular so it isn't a stretch at all to think if they can get production to 600k they will sell 600K. Maybe next year if we aren't in the midst of a worldwide recession.

Maybe not at first . But then it will outsell the Prime because Toyota goofed and did not make enough battery's for any more than 5000 cars this year. I think Tesla will be making 20k Y's a month very shortly . I agree that most people are more comfortable with what they know which gives the Rav4 a head start out of the gate.
