So I fixed N64 for this device about 2 months ago now. It was the core that was messed up. I didn't fix the input yet. Added folders for all of the cores listed in the es_systems.cfg file, they don't all work yet but do have Dreamcast and sega 32X working. Set the resolution to core provided so that 4:3 displays correctly but you'll still have the black bars I'm not sure how to add bezels. Opened up Retroarch's backend as well. Instructions for modifying the theme, it's got a weird method for this. EmulationStation is still locked down but would need an actual cfw to fix that.

makes me glad I have a Retroid Pocket 4 pro and I'm in the middle of my set up also - looks kind of interesting but I have a lot of these types of handhelds. They mostly work up to playstation 1 and maybe like pop or something like that.

50% of the times stuttering is because the microsd 1- use sd-imager and make microsd .img card backup immediately, 2-get a branded microsd ASAP (any V30 U3 A1)= more than 100mb/sec that is at least 40% faster than the stock microsd, 3-write the stock microsd .img to the new card with sd-imager (that until new custom firmware is made that may fix the lack of configuration options on the emulation) and if using bigger a microsd card resize the roms partition with minitool partition wizard free. note: although i do not own the R43 pro or M18 i do own a powkiddy q90, an R36S and a retroid pocket 3 and i plan to get the R43 pro in a couple of months after watching how it fares.

the chip is not powerful enough to run many games without lag. slow micro sd card only affects load times

@@DecibelAlex there is no perfect handheld emulation console I have a powkiddy q90, a R36S and a retroid pocket 3, my previous opinion about the r43 pro was biased because of the wide screen on a vertical DMG style console but in the end the retroid pocket 3 is better. r43 pro suffers other issue too bulky to get in to a pocket

I think the button layout should reflect the type of game you want to play. Diamond setups are fine for super Nintendo and neo Geo and game boy advance, PS1, PS2, and PSP. Also 5 and 6 button only arcade games. A 2 or 3 button setup is great for 2 and 3 button only game systems and arcade games.

WOW! What an interesting looking device. Ergonomic grip, slanted R1 R2 L1 L2 buttons but no HDMI or 2nd USB-C or 2nd SD card slot and... ONLY mono speaker? 4 GIGS OF RAM!? Jebus crisps! The RG35XX has a 1.5GB quad core and only 1 GB of ram... What does this non Android device need 4 GB of RAM for?? gorgeous screen though, wonder if some CFW will come out for it to better run N64 and PSP? Awesome review as always! =D

it's actually 1GB RAM and I believe 4GB internal memory. if it is internal it might not be so easy to get cfw on it

@@DecibelAlex the RG35XX has dual SD card slots so... why would it have a paltry 4 GB of internal memory?? It's a Linux only device with no Android OS on the 4 GB internal memory, I'm guessing that 1 GB of ram which is 1GB of LPDDR4 RAM, was mistaken as 4GB of internal memory??

@@bigemugamer this device is not made by Anbernic and there's only one SD card slot in the bottom it seems. The OS and roms could be on one card but why would they advertise it as 4GB storage + 64GB/128GB SD otherwise

I love the widescreen on a vertical. It’s funny hearing the complaints because when it comes to psp everyone always mentions that it’s squished. lol you really can’t please anybody. This is good because you get your widescreen and it does not hurt the other games, bezels or no bezels.

If you ask me a 3:2 ratio works best for a device that's used for everything from NES to PSP because thern you have very minimal bars above and below for PSP but also very minimal bars side to side for NES, Genesis TH-16, etc. though GBA would have no bars at all. Well at least for me a 3:2 aspect ratio would be the best (unless every retro system could do a 16:9 aspect ratio without cropping or stretching then I'd be totally down for 16:9)

Have you tried playing any of these stuttering games while having this device plugged in into a charger? Wondering if this thing is throttling a bit while on a battery, just like with laptops. Also, replace that MicroSD card with something better and keep the image on your HDD for safekeeping.

That's the hope. Aside from the low res screen (that in real life looks much better than it should) the hardware is very good for the price, so a custom firmware could make this device so much better and unlock its potential. Fingers crossed.

@@degenerate8228 Someone else said thst they managed to load JelOS and it partially runs, so Rocknix should, but i tried several times and it failed. Please do let us know if you manage to make it work.

How do you reboot/force close this thing? I accidentally went into some game in Taiwanese (I think?) and it took over the buttons. Can't use home to get to an exit screen, power on/off and even taking out the memory card doesn't help - it still goes back to the same unquittable game in like Chinese or something How do I get back to the home screen??? Thx

If that handheld used the simple64 emulator and if the handheld was powerful enough, N64 wouldn't stutter.

Both analog sticks should be at the bottom or at the very least beside one another,the few handhelds that have them arranged like this just looks wrong and would probably feel even worse in hand.

@@viruscure4677Hardware wise? Yes it can run PSP well since it has a RK3566 in it. The problem is the bad OS it comes with that does not allow for any configuration.
