Does this beautiful new San Martin suffer from Seiko Syndrome??

Here is the first view at the San Martin SN0136, a beautiful new watch that is as beautiful as it is refined.
BUT....
For the life of me there is something about it that drives me a bit crazy and that I had a lot of trouble placing and even more trouble proving, or disproving :).
But in the end, after thourough examiniation I totally recommend this watch (there are few left!!)

I also own this model. It is a excellent watch with that beautiful dial. The only problem I have, which I didn't expected, are sharp edges on the bezel and the lugs. Excellent review, Olivier.

I would call it a strong homage of the new Longines Hydroconquest GMT. Dial, bezel (insert & knurling), case shape, bracelet, all very similar. The only thing that sets it apart is the handset and the absence of circular markers at 6 and 9 o'clock. With 40.5 mm it's pretty close to the Longines' 41 mm.

That’s also true of so many new releases from many, many brands; yet another me-too dive watch…🤷🏻. How many similar dive watches do you need???

I own this model, it wears really well (very comfortable) and keeps excellent time. Its almost identical to the longines as mentioned earlier which I don't mind. Mine has a perfect bezel that lines up and the dial is crisp and dirt free. All in all a really good watch.

I love San Martin... little by little their watches are moving away from the strong inspiration of other models, effectively creating their own style... and the strange thing is that they are doing it in small steps, and this also offers them excellent feedback to understand what enthusiasts who are starting to take an interest in some Chinese brands that work very well really like.

I always notice when a picture on the wall is crooked, and, yes, I do notice that the 9 o'clock marker is slightly off. That is unfortunate but it's probably within the tolerances of the factory.

Good review, I think that bezel looks OK. If you have to look that closely, it really doesn't matter to me. I had the same feeling about my sn0116, but I think it was my eyes rather than the watch!

Oh man, I’ve yet to buy a San Martin. I have my new and gorgeous Baltany, VK 67 powered chronograph. It is perfect, got the 12 hr. totalizer (the moronic 24 hr dial is an instant deal killer for me) and lays out like an IWC powered by a Val Joux 7750. The sapphire dial on a 39 mm case is awesome. So, a SM was coming next but what bad news :-( 🤪😜😝 Fine review today! Thanks

Thank you very much! As I say in the review in the end, the bezel isn't misaligned, but it's a matter of the depth of the dial that plays tricks to the sight 😁. So you can go ahead and get this one if you wanted to, it's top quality

Odd that they made the seconds hand have a red arrow, when that is usually reserved for the GMT hand. Thanks for the video.

It looks slightly crooked to me, but I have learned from watching many KZfaq videos about watches, the camera angle can definitely play tricks on eyes... so yeah, without seeing it in hand, no way to know.

Beautiful watch with two design issues: 1. GMT hand is not easy to read, 2. Hour and minute hands are not interesting, a bit too simple for a watch in this price category.

It's a very close 'homage' to Longines HQ gmt, has 0 to do with Rolex.

It's a very distant homage in that case, the hands on some markers are totally different

Seriously. It DOES bug people, and that's OK. Even if you buy an inexpensive watch, and come to terms that yes, sacrifices will be made with regards to movement, finishing, etc... even on a very inexpensive watch, if something is supposed to line up and does NOT line up (e.g. a manufacturing defect as opposed to a consequence of using lesser materials), it does make some people feel they didn't get their money's worth. If it doesn't bug you, that's great, you will be far less prone to buyer's remorse than others. But... if you have been watching watch enthusiast videos on KZfaq for any amount of time, you'll know that most people check to see if there is perfect alignment. This is par for the course.
