@@NatalieandTara I got two containers of night crawlers from a bait shop. I cut the top off a two liter bottle and made them a soil and compost habitat. The worms preferred moist, cool, and shaded environment. The worms prefer that environment to keep the mucus they produce from drying out so they can burrow through the soil. In our classroom we had a fish tank with a big ol' fish. The teacher let me feed some of the night crawlers to the fish. The fish would swim up and eat the worm in one gulp. The other worms I released into the yard. When ever I see a worm stranded on the side walk or drive way after a rain storm I throw them back into the grass to save them.

@@mudman1 Awesome! When I was a kid my uncle (this is Natalie) was super into fishing. He lived in MN and had a little worm farm (no idea what you would call it) in his basement. He kept it dark and it was naturally humid and he never had to buy bait. We would also harvest nightcrawlers when we were going to go fishing. At night putting a hose under a trash can lid in the yard and just wait for the worms to crawl out of the ground. I always loved doing it. Also, any time would rain in Vegas (rarely) I would pick up all the worms I found on the sidewalk as I walked to school. Then at the last yard before school, I would dump a large handful of worms in it. I was an odd child.

mudman1 That’s fantastic! Thank you for sharing even though it was about a year ago! 😂 Just some friendly information, never leave worms in the ground if that is where they are not from. Some worms, like bait shop worms, are not native to the land and can end up hurting the environment. Native worms are the best ones to spread and will most definitely help the plant and animal life. I’m so glad that someone cares enough to save the little guys. So many of them (especially bees and spiders) are SO important. Keep on going and loving science!

@@NatalieandTara: There are ESTES rocket kits, I think on amazon or if someone feels spunky, go to the ESTES website. Me, I just build my own from scratch. Plenty of books on it back then and used to go out to the Mohave to launch. Also did a few from Encinitas over Moonlight Beach until we got in trouble with the navy and vandenburg air force base. But that is another story for another day.

This is good advice. If you want one big solid crystal, dissolve as much powder as you can in the hottest water possible (or I guess whatever the directions say, since a few substances actually are more soluble in cold water). It may require stirring for quite a while. Give it some time to dissolve. Then pour just the clear liquid into another container after it's cooled down a bit (avoid letting any undissolved powder carry over) and add just a few of the seed crystals into this solution. Let the water evaporate until you start seeing noticeable crystals forming and pick out your favorites if you want to just grow those. You can redissolve leftover powder and continue growing the crystals by placing them into another supersaturated solution. Just make sure you don't put them in while it's still hot or the crystal will likely start dissolving and getting smaller. You can tie a string around a growing crystal and suspend it in the liquid if you want it to have crystal faces on all sides. Just make sure to lower it as the water evaporates.
