ive had my flute nearly 7 years and never had the pads replaced. Recently I have been having more and more issues getting low notes out on the flute when I had no trouble before. I thought something was wrong with me but then I tried them on a school flute one day and was able to play them again. The pads are peeling, dirty, and definitely worn. I wish I didn't have to but I think I have to get them replaced now.

Hi there. Could you please advise on the specific screws I should adjust to fix the issue where my high E flat sounds flat with standard fingering but is in tune with the shortened fingering? I frequently alternate between the two fingerings in chromatic passages to balance the intonation with surrounding notes. I appreciate your help. 🙏

The flute I have(beginner and I have Trevor James E flute) is very hard to get lower notes out on. It was fine, but it started not wanting to get E, D, F, or any of those out. It just refuses. I looked at one of the keys I don't use and it looks like the paper or whatever(that yellowish covering over the pad) is peeling away and showing white and is like sticky(I don't have anything sugary before I play lol) could this key be leaking and causing the sound to become airy and difficult to play? Also looking at a Yamaha flute, so I will be advancing!

Hi, I'm just wondering how often you should get a flute serviced just for a regular "checkup" and about how much that is? Thank u (Ps. Love your videos, they have helped us so much)

every year would be great, but 3-4 years is good(just reading off regular professional cleanings and making sure it's okay) depends on the music store, so i cant answer that.

Thanks for your video. To take my flute in for a service I have to drive 3 hours so I like to make sure there is in fact a problem. I am having a problem with my "D" note after I have been playing a long time, it will not work.I will blot the pad on the foot (pinky key) and it helps a bit, but the response is still not good. The note, when it decides to come out is very airy and wooden sounding. I literally have to grab another flute if I want to carry on. Is this even normal? If I pick the flute up the next day it has dried out and will sound fine so the repair guy might think I'm crazy.

Hmmm…sounds like the pad gets moisture and then deforms. I don’t think he will think you are crazy. One look at the pads and he will immediately tell you which pads need replacement!

I had six pads replaced, but I’ve noticed that the more I play the better my tone gets. Does it take the pads a while to settle?
