Dog ACL Healed WITHOUT Surgery + CHASED by SWISS COWS!
Husky Squad friends, we bring you a very special episode in Tidus ACL Road to Recovery Series. It's been 6 months since Tidus's second ACL injury, and we're so grateful to share with you that he successfully recovered WITHOUT surgery! We had "great" plans to film this special six month ACL injury update while were out hiking in the beautiful Swiss Mountains to show you how Tidus is doing and how happy he's to be healed. However, the very athletic Swiss COWS had different plans for us! 😂 Next thing you know, we were being chased out by a cow and her herd, and we had to look for a different trail.
Seeing Tidus hiking in the SWISS mountains with the entire pack is the best feeling in the world!

When Tidus sustained his first ACL injury almost 6 years ago, it was so challenging to find the resources and support on for ACL surgery alternatives, which made it very difficult to pursue this on our own. Therefore, I decided to contribute our story, every step we took, mistakes we've made, and the things I wish I knew to recover our dog without (the extremely invasive) TPLO surgery.
I finally sat down and collected all of our experiences to date on this very big "DOG ACL INJURY" subject, and I wrote a blog titled: "Dog ACL Recovery Without Surgery." This blog also has all the resources so you can learn from everything we've been through on this subject, and we'll keep it updated with our ongoing knowledge and changes. We also include the essential steps and tools (such as custom ACL dog brace) we used in this process: huskysquad.blog...

The Swiss Cows 🐮 were unplanned, but so fun to encounter on this special day of Tidus being healed from his ACL injury. ♥️ Here’s the blog packed with GOLD 💛 nuggets exactly how we did it + a special discount code for the custom braces: huskysquad.blog/acl-recovery-no-surgery If you’re in this situation, I urge you to read this very detailed blog and do further research. To all other dog parents, we had the ACL injury prevention video filmed, but we need to refilm it because we learned lots more! Prevention is the best medicine for these injuries because once injured, the dog can recover but will never be back to pre-injury no matter the route you take. Let us know if it’s something you’re interested in.

Usually if you stretch your arms out wide and make yourself look as big as possible cows will back away. Key and I were charged by one once, I stuck my arms out and she immediately backed off, turned and walked away. Cows aren't good at judging size. Beautiful scenery there and I'm so pleased Tidas is all healed now!

Haha, I guess two humans and a pack of three wolfy looking carnivores wasn’t enough to make her budge 😆 ...thanks for the heads up - we’ll try the bear tactic if we ever get charged at. After a few attempts to pass through, we just wanted to respect her space and not disturb herd too much. We later realized that there were two baby calves nearby, and she was probably trying to drive us away from them. Thank you for thinking of Tidus, and have a fun weekend with Kiyush! ❤️

@@huskysquad Yeah, there were two humans and two big husky/malamute crosses when we got charged, Key and I in the front. She'd broken out of her field onto the lane. I was actually amazed by just how effective raising my arms was, her eye's literally budged at the apparent size of me. But you're probably right about keeping you away from her babies. Have a great weekend yourselves.

Haha, we’ve been told of people getting injured by Swiss cows, especially the ones with horns 😆 usually they would clear the path at the sight of dogs, but there were a few calves on the other side of the hill, and we think this was why this cow was pushing us out. 😄

5mins in and wanted to pause and say..... First visit to vets and she totally blanked me when i mentioned a brace and kept talking about surgery only. Second visit to vets two weeks later and i then mentioned on this visit that i had spent hours and days researching non surgical treatment to which my vet actually responded with slight positive replies. It's not about the money for me or what's cheaper at the end of the day it's about my best friend and his well being out of all this and i've deciding for the brace and if needed years down the line he needs a double then i can get that too. In talks with a company right now. Just wanted to say the first five mins of the video is pure gold and excellent advice from Husky Squad. Been sitting back quietly admiring your videos here.

Good Job. As a farmer's son, I can say you instinctively did everything right. Cows are normally not dangerous, but keeping a distance is the best option. And for the full recovery of Tidus, it was a funny endurance test! Run away, climb mountains and stay cool. Yeah, Tidus is back!!

Our petite 127lb, 9 year old Saint Bernard, Brandy, has a tplo tear. Just diagnosed 10 days ago. We definitely don't want to do surgery after learning about what all was involved. She's been confined to a small yard on our 3 acres and is hating it. So glad we found your videos. We've tried a few other braces and they were a waste of money. We are going to order a Pet Ortho brace for her this week! Can't wait to give her....her freedom back. Thank you!

I hope you had a chance to have a look at the very detailed blog I wrote and all the steps we took for Tidus. If you’ve not ordered your brace yet, definitely read up about dual braces on the blog and why we did it, and we also have the link there with a discount code for the braces. Thanks Brian, most cows we see near trails seem very gentle and are just curious about the Squad when we pass them by. We try to respect their space and not startle them, but every so often there will be some cows on the hiking path. It wouldn’t be a problem without dogs, but with 3 wolfy semi-large dogs, we just didn’t want to make the cows feel threatened. 👍❤️

Aww we LOVE reading these stories! Thank you so much for rescuing her. YES, their spirits totally change rather quickly once providing all their needs and giving them lots of love. Kimahri came from a similar situation. She was about a year old when got her, stuck in a tiny little backyard space, never let inside, never taken for walks, and traumatized by all the loud noises and fireworks...almost dropped off at one of biggest kill shelters in SoCal. She’s now living the life, and so is your pupper 😆...Thank you for sharing this story, totally made my day! ❤️ Have the best weekend!

Hey guys, I am so glad you posted your journey with Tidus - thank you! We have just had our 2.5 year old female boerboel be diagnosed with a complete rupture of her left CCL. I found your amazing blog have been given hope that we can help her naturally. Thing is she actually still uses her left knee, and the vet didn't do an MRI so it's only really guessing the state of her ligament. We are going to get her braces and try swimming, which is what she loves to do. One query, did you guys find out how Tidus' knees actually heal and stabalise naturally? It would be awesome to know how that works, and how TIdus can live pain free - it's absolutely amazing and we are so happy for you guys.

I don't know how I can put her through that, so I'm online looking for alternatives and came upon your video. Thank you for your videos. I'm in Houston, Texas so I'm going to have to find a holistic veterinarian, which may be hard. I was told an CCL canNOT heal so I've been so disheartened but your videos are giving me hope! Thank you

Aww thank you Rhonda! We’re so happy we documented Tidus’s entire recovery experience. We had a tough time dealing with his first injury, as it was our first time trying to figure things out. We really wanted to share this information to other dog parents to help them make the best decision for their dog without having to go through all the hurdles we encountered in the first injury. We so badly wanted to say hello to that cow, but we just weren’t sure if she would feel threatened by the dogs. I think we made a good decision by keeping our distance. We also realized there was a few baby calves nearby, so she might have been trying to protect them by driving us away. We totally respect that, and there were plenty of other hiking trails around, so it was a great experience in end anyway! 🏔 Thank you for your comment, Rhonda, ❤️ and have a great weekend!

I'm so happy Tidus is doing great! 💛 Thank you so much for doing all that for the big boy :) He can now explore the Swiss Alps freely! And he can run from cows. 😉 We had a similar experience with cows just about a month ago in Austria. Even a little scarier... We were in the middle of a trail and the only path led through a cow pasture. The cows were very wary of Rancho. They didn't care when my husband went in there alone, but when I entered with him, they followed us closely and at one point even started runnig after Rancho. I was holding him by the harness and one cow came running to him with her head down, I switched him to other side and there was another cow going after him. I was starting to panic. I hadn't been so scared in a loong time. Luckily nothing happened. And from then on, everytime there was a cow pasture and no other way, we turned around. Only later did we see a sign at a different pasture that said 'bringing dogs may cause risk of death'. I'm glad nothing happened to you guys :)

So glad AOC treated you well. We went ahead and got the brace after your first videos. Sadly our experience has not been good, there customer service has been poor at best. We are more then 2 months in with a brace that still doesn't fit. We sent it back in for the adjustments and they addressed one of the issues. They will not call, only email and the last response took 1 month to get a reply back (correction they had one employee that would call but he has left the company - he was the only would took responsibility to call to clarify and the only one to address the horrible shipping - lack there of really- losing items, shipping to incorrect towns who knows ect). I sent replies to every email they had on file after email replies stopped and nothing came back. It was not until I sent a Facebook message (how sad that is what we have come to as a society) that someone started to force them to reply to me. Sadly that reply has us starting back with can you send us photos (you have them already), send us the emails (again you should have them already). They ask for things that are insulting and requesting us to send the brace back again on our cost of coarse. Which I can not do. It has been months I can not keep a young squirrelly dog still that long. She won't have it and destruction occurs. I am glad they treated you well and Titas is doing much better as of coarse we hope for the same outcome. However, I would be leery with stating their customer service is great.

Hey there Jennifer! Yeah, we still don’t know if the cow was curious, or if it was trying to drive us away from the nearby calve (which we didn’t notice until we were leaving the area). We so badly want to know! 😂 The cows here look so gentle and healthy, and the bells just make the whole experience feel like a holiday 😆 ...we hope to come back to this trail complete the entire hike. Been watching your videos, but was late to the game. We have 2 Australian Shepard’s and our younger male Ben had the partial tear in rear left. Our vet talked us out of a brace, should of listened to my gut and tried it, so we did the surgery. Memorial Day 2019 surgery and 6 weeks of sleeping on air mattress keeping him from jumping and then his leg after all the horrible bruising went away started to open up. X-ray showed all screws backed out. He never was unhappy and we constantly took pictures up to ER when this started plus he never used his foot the whole time. Two choices, remove leg or reattach screws . The screws fractured his bones and no way to fix. He is a resilient tripawed now but we have yet to RV camp with him. In Texas and it is finally fall and he took his longest walk yet. So please follow the squads suggestions and do not just think surgery is the only option.

DEAR hUSKY sQUD, yOU WILL NEVER KNOW HOW HAPPY GRATEFUL AND HOPEFUL WE ARE AFTER FINDING YOUR VIDEOS. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY. MY HUBBY AND i ARE. OWNED BY " CHASE" OUR Flat-Coated Retriever/Brittany Spaniel. :) . ( WHOOPS, So sorry about the caps but being 70+ yrs old I am starting to lean a wee bit toward the goofy side. :) Anyway. Chase ended up with a torn ACL. The vet says they operate or try to nurse with love & care. After their complete honesty (ALMOST) on pros & cons, we elected the to wait to see if it would heal on its own.. That was this January 19. He is no long limping and scratching himself sometimes with that leg. And now 2 months later, is it too late to get the brace? We are seeing vet tomorrow to get measurements etc. We are having them fit and make cast etc. Bottom line, are we doing the right thing for him????? Oh and he is 9 yrs and 7 months and weighs 51 lbs "NOW" :) ) We got him from the Marysville Humain Socity when he was about 6mts mts old. He's our baby and protector and misses his 2 walks a day in various parks. Would you be willing to give us anything else we should be doing. We agreed to follow your advice you offered etc. I guess my main question we have is: how long do guess he will he have to use the brace once we receive it and being 2mts since injury,. Thank you for any other tips and hints you could share with us, P.S. Our vet never did mention a (BRACE). We found all that from your wonderful videos. So once again, GOD bless you and your family up one side and down the other and inside out. Chase's Mom, Barb

@@huskysquad the cows become dangerous only if there are lambs in the flock, therefore by instinct they tend to turn away the danger. We live in a valley with many herds and in 30 years it has never happened that a cow attacks a dog or a person (even if our puppies often mistake them for food 😅). More than to the cows beware of the shepherd dogs, in particular to the maremma sheepdog. They are really dangerous and used to repelling wolves even without human help.

@My Husky Experience Good to know, friends! You guys know these mountains best! 👍 We will keep that in mind. We ran into cows in a different trail, and a farmer told us to be very careful because “they are fighting cows”, hence the horns. But then, a guy that works in the mountain hut told us that we should have no problems passing through the cows with our dogs, as the cows will fear the dogs and open a path..So we got some mixed information there. We will experiment a little more next time there’s cows blocking the trail! Thank you 😆❤️

I totally enjoyed your video and watching Titus recover. My sweet golden retriever is 12 years old and has a tear in his ACL don’t know how severe it is but I think it has gotten worse. He also is having trouble with his other hind leg. I do not see surgery in the future! I have seen some horrific things with the TPL O surgery I’m so glad that I stumbled across your page I am now subscribing and love to watch your huskies. My golden retriever is also having problems with his front leg to because he put so much pressure on it to compensate for the back ones! I am pretty financially strapped and here is a strange question for you the braces for Titus his back legs would you be interested in selling those to me I cannot afford to get my sweet golden retriever the actual ones. I wondered if they would work he looks about the same size as my golden retriever probably not because every dog has a different hinge I’m sure thank you so much let me know. Maria Combess, we’re very sorry about your pup’s injury! It’s extremely painful to let him be without care. Custom braces are a lot more affordable than surgery. These braces MUST be custom made to each dog’s leg and they do not work for any other dog after the mold is cast. You will need to cast your own. Braces that are not custom made will not do anything to help. On our blog we have a coupon code you can use to help you with a discount towards your purchase. Along with the braces, we have lot of additional tips and steps you can take (in addition to the braces) which are very affordable. Here are all the details: huskysquad.com/dog-acl-recovery-without-surgery/

TPLO surgery is very invasive. Arthrex has a product called a tightrope. Some vets use that. 2 holes and fiberwire and that is it. Basically creates another ligament.

Our 2 1/2 yr Doberman holds R rear leg up. Went to vet. X-rays, blood work, referral to orthopedic surgeon, he claims forward movement between femur - tibia. Says needs TPLO surgery 6400$. I can't replicate movement. 1st vet couldn't produce movement. After a couple days our dog can put some weight on when walking. But if he spazzes, gets tender again. I'm certain the diagnosis by surgeon is cash motivated. Only orthroscopic camera can tell condition of Stifle joint. I'm retired from 30 years of a Orthotic- Prosthetic human practice. I'm going to make a Carbon fiber brace for Beaumont. I've viewed brace designs in various videos and question the designs as an optimal bio- mechanical effect. Plus I think the prices of braces ( 695$ to 1095$ ) are higher than they need to be, again reeks cash cow syndrome.

It will help with pain, it’ll also help keep all of your dogs bones, joints, skin and coat, and brain activity safe and healthy! It’s way more safer than fish oil as well 😊 CBD oil is an amazing thing to add to your dogs meals. So happy Tidus is okay now! 😁
