This REALLY made my heart do leaps of joy. What a great rescue and an amazing foster fail story! I just LOVE hearing foster fail stories! I have often entertained the idea of being a foster for our local shelter, but then I would know I could never trust anyone else with that dog. My heart couldn't take it! My dog Bella was returned TWICE in the first 5-months of her little life. Their excuse was "she has no manners, boundaries, or self-control." When the adoption counselor told me that, I was shocked to my core. She's a PUPPY!! They aren't born with manners, boundaries, or self-control! They must be taught! So, I adopted her and told her I was the end of the line for her. She's four years old this month, and I adore her more and more each day. Did she destroy stuff? OH yeah, but stuff can be replaced over time. The love, laughter, and joy I have experienced and the love I have been able to give to this precious pup is PRICELESS. She's my baby, she's my family.

I am soooo glad to see Denny walking around with a muzzle. Here in NYC people have dogs they think are reactive, and instead of putting a muzzle on them and proceeding to help them gain confidence and have positive experiences until they’re better, people instead use *only* avoidance for the rest of the dog’s life. The humans make the dog cross the street whenever any dog or person is approaching, which not only doesn’t rehabilitate the dog, but actually reinforces the dog’s impression that other people or other dogs are dangerous enemies to be avoided. The dog starts off fearful, then is taught that it’s human is *also* fearful, so it will be even more aggressive to protect the human who clearly doesn’t want anyone approaching. Complete avoidance of everyone is no way for a dog to live, especially in a dense city.
