Food isn't a problem. The problem is too little physical activity. My dog eats a lot but he runs a few kilometers daily and is not obese trust me. Many owners don't take their dogs for a walk especially American owners. Because they are too lazy I'm afraid.

I could never understand people who think this is love to their dog, but say too an obese person gross you need lose weight?? Like Huh??

@@xertijagee2812I agree ! ..my cats always had access to some food and water 24/7..quality top notch not cheap junk dry and some wet…. none of them was obese…later in life when got older when they moved less, they got little chunky but nothing like poor Buddy….

@@xertijagee2812 It depends on the circumstances and the pet, how about cats? it isn't just dogs people are talking about!! Here in the UK, our cats come and go as they please through a cat flap, so they are in and out all day, about 50/50 really, they hunt, climb tress, bask in sunbeams, explore, be cats, as it should be, and mine are fed when they want! I have had cats all my life, and they all have lived between, 17-21 years of age, in excellent condition, glossy coats, not a bite or scratch in them, and no bloody baths lol I have mentioned all the above because i am comparing here in the UK to America, we do not keep cats in, and walk them on leads, and make them suffer needless baths!! Seems like you have the right way of treating your dogs, some people just seem so stupid or plain ignorant, or maybe lazy like you said!

Like my family and I'd learned, sometimes overfeeding IS NOT INTENTIONAL. For instance when the 3 of us took our dog to the vet, and finding out ALL three of us (thinking we each were the only ones feeding the dog!) had to collaborate on a 1 person ONLY a day feeding schedule! The pet will never say no to food, and if people have different schedules (sometimes passers by on ships in the night) time tables, feeding schedules get screwed up! When a pet enters the family, EVERYONE needs to be on board with who feeds, and when, if snacks are/are not allowed. Post that animals feeding schedule, and who feeds the animal, on the fridge 🙂

@@djstarrjunkie You have a very valid point & obviously you & your family realized there was a problem with your dog & took your pet to the vet only to find out the 3 of you were unintentionally over feeding him/her. My issue with this particular case is that the person/persons just surrendered their dog without looking into the WHY(or so it appears that way based on what was said) it had all these health problems due to it's obesity. I also realized that people too have issues & those "issues" transfer to the pet like thinking feed it all the time is loving & also unfortunately elderly people can over feed due to not actually remembering they've fed the pet ( & if this was the particular case for this sweet dog couldn't afford to help it), so my "judgement" could be off. However it didn't sound like that was the case for this dog (having an elderly owner or responsible one) & we will never actually know the circumstances. And also based on cuddle buddies comment this sweet dog was also being fed the wrong food, again an easy fix! My comment was not to be mean or judgmental in fact I even said " I know most people" don't ever mean to cause harm" again it had to do w/the fact the person surrendered it without even considering changing it's diet which must of been very hard for this dog to just be surrendered. I'm only going off what was said. But based on your comment your family loves it's pet & took measures to find out the "why" it was overweight & any ensuing health issues it may of had & I'm sorry this comment triggered you as you must of all felt bad that you all unintentionally over fed your pet (I'm assuming based on what you said.). But you need to see that you all took measures to find out the why & most importantly you didn't abandoned your pet because of it!

Make sure to give him lots of time to lay down and rest too so that his joints and spine won’t get destroyed from all the weight he has to carry around for now
