Enterprise series in "Dogfight over New York." You see an airline war with New York Airlines vs Eastern Airlines. Both much later went out of Business.

They used to be paid really well and only hired the best of the best.

Eastern didn't mess around. Half of this town was employed by them. The unions put a big squeeze on them.

@@robertbauers2210 About 5 years ago I applied to amtrak for assistant conductor. I didn't pass the written exam. I never tried again. Yea, it is good money.

In 1986, People Express offered me $17,500 for their cross-utilized entry level inflight/ground front line employee role they referred to as “customer service managers”. That was more than decent money at the time. They were non union at the time and were just a few months away from being acquired by Texas Air.

My first flight as a kid was on Eastern and I got to tour the cockpit, sit in the co pilots seat, feel the controlls and I earned my first set of wings. I was about 7 or 8 and it was one of the things that made me become a pilot. I managed to solo at 16 and had my PPL before I learned that the Navy would put me through school and then pay me to fly cool jets. But I was disappointed that I wasn't able to fly the F14 and had to settle for the Hornet instead.

@@southjerseysound7340 I grew up in Miami, and Eastern (The Wings of Man) was a wonderful airline. In my neighborhood, your parents worked for one of these two: "The University of Miami" or Eastern Airlines". I loved Eastern!

I was gripped by the story. Then I heard the words Frank. Lorenzo. You may as well have said Satan's nastiest issue with fangs dripping with the blood of infants. I had a room mate who worked for Eastern who HATED Frank for destroying EAL. I'm going to get back to the vid now. But I know where it's a-gonna go from here.

I wonder if Frank was intentionally taking on Eastern to devalue it knowing that he had the chance to take it over soon after.

The Eastern Shuttle was the best way to fly to and from DCA-LGA-BOS. Deregulation killed the shuttle and Eastern TWA, Pan Am, National, Braniff, and Continental airlines. A lot of good paying jobs. None of the up start airlines are still around New York Air is gone People's Express Gone. The passengers today rank flying the worst ever. Deregulation failed it just brought wages down and made flying miserable.
