This week on Give Me Shelter, after a lot of new animals are brought in to the shelter, staff members realise that some of them just aren't suitable to be adopted, and some hard decisions have to be made. A Puppy fashion show is organised to help boost adoption.
Give Me Shelter puts the viewers in the middle of a no-kill rescue shelter. From rescue runs to save hopeless animals, to successful adoption events, to the private thoughts of the characters involved, the audience will intimately experience it all.

This is why you should volunteer at and donate to "kill shelters" or open admission shelters. They have to take in every animal surrendered to them. The more money and people they get, the more animals they can work with and save. Shelters like this one is only "no kill" because as you can see in this video, they have the option to refuse animals and thus do not have to euthanise any healthy animals themselves.

This is to Britney on Staff at this shelter: Many shelters do both individual and group testing. It’s not a matter of one being better than the other. It’s about what a shelter can afford, and what kittens it makes sense to group test. Most Shelters never re-test every adult cat for FeLV/FIV after 3 months, but it actually should be done; however, most shelters just don’t have that kind of money setting around. So the best they can do is let the adopting family know to get their newly adopted cat tested, again, for FeLV/FIV at their Vet before mixing it with their cat(s). Also, euthanizing cats/kittens that test positive for FeLV/FIV is a realistic outcome for many shelters. There is nowhere for these cats/kittens to stay, since they must be housed separately. There are not enough homes for the healthy cats/kittens, let alone those that have a spreadable virus that is not curable. Also, there is no such thing as a shelter that doesn’t euthanize. If the shelter you work at has foster homes for cats and kittens, at some point a kitten will get sick enough that euthanasia will be the choice, because the medical bills are too expensive to continue to try and heal the kitten, or the kitten is just really sick, and too far gone to heal. That being said, I agreed with you all giving each kitten a test.

I don't know if the staff sees these comments, but it would be a good idea to prevent audience from touching the dogs. Dogs are already stressed out, and if someone, especially a kid, gets bit, you've got a huge liability issue on your hands.

I am certain that DONYA is in an untenable position having to make decisions on intake, based on the greater benefit. However commenting on HAVERSHAM'S reserved demeanor as being a deterrent to potential adopters is a false assumption. The quiet, shy dogs are the ones that have always attracted our attention and become happy, permanent members of our family.

To Karen Acton: There is no such thing as a “Kill Shelter.” Every Shelter Vet, at some point, will euthanize animals under his/her care (this is a part of the job, and he/she has trained for it.). This is due to the animal having an incurable disease, and/or not being able to be helped, meaning the illness costs too much to fix, or the animal is too far gone to help. The cat could be an old feral cat with pneumonia that is so advanced the cat is gasping for breath; or it could be a group of puppies that have a terrible case of Parvovirus, but there is no room, or no money (supplies), or no one to treat them. Where there are animals, there will be animals that need to be euthanized. It is a terrible sadness, and I wish it was different. But to turn our heads away from helping animals (even if it is euthanasia) is unthinkable! Then you have a society that ignores the suffering of their animals, and the animals die alone, and in agony. This labeling shelters as “kill shelters,” or “no kill shelters” is not exactly truthful. Every good shelter will have euthanasia. It might be at vet clinics outside the shelter, but there is no getting around euthanasia. We don’t label Vet Clinics as “Kill Vet Clinics,” though, even though animals are euthanized there. Euthanasia due to pet overpopulation is an extremely touchy subject where shelters and the community are concerned; however, pet overpopulation must be dealt with since pet breeders and irresponsible humans allow animals in their care to re-produce, and do not get them fixed, and dump them. The shelter bears the brunt of irresponsible people in the community. After seeing how some other countries do not euthanize for pet overpopulation, and the animals are just left to fend for themselves, and suffer so much, I have come to the conclusion that humane euthanasia is the lesser of the two evils. However, I am glad there are shelters like this one in this video that help the animals get homes that would otherwise be euthanized.

Here's another pet shelter trying to find homes for homeless pets and I just heard that very soon many people are going to be homeless too. Yes I feel sorry for the dogs and cats and other pets. But I also feel sorry for people who are soon going to be homeless too, now that the pandemic is over. God bless.

The thing with people is that they can understand what's happening. Animals are just confused, scared, and helpless.

This vid is so disappointing and BORING. The whole thing was mostly having staff in front of the camera expressing opinions about the adoptions. Very, very little exposure of any animal or what they looked like. thumbs way down.

I cannot like a video in which pitbull puppies are glorified as normal, safe dogs in a silly fashion show. In the USA a few days ago two BABIES (5 months and 2 years) were killed by the family pitbulls who were loved pets for many years; raised from puppies. The mother was put in the hospital and almost lost her arm. The breed is dangerous and overwhelming shelters.

An anecdote should not define a breed, particularly when we don't know the details of the situation. "BABIES" in particular tend to do things to animals that put them in a very difficult position; you'd probably snap too if someone pulled your tail (which contains the lower spinal cord) or aggressively got in your face after you gave them every warning you could to stop doing that. Dogs end up in shelters almost ALWAYS due to human incompetence (or apathy). Assuming that the dogs are just "dangerous" is ignorant and bigoted. Obviously human little kids are perfect angels who NEVER do anything hurtful, even unknowingly...give me a break.
