Pink Floyd hoarders finally released this for profit on vinyl
From Yeeshhkul, these would be from a cassette from summer 1976 which contain earlier studio recordings for the Animals album. Sheep has the old Raving And Drooling lyrics, Dogs has Waters and Gilmour singing each others lead vocal parts and completely different guitar solos from the finished work. Pigs doesn't have all the final overdubs but is quite similar to the album version.

That third electric guitar layer, on the solo's, is awesome. It sounds so dirty & raw. I almost wish they included it in the official studio release. What am I saying? Dogs is a perfect song. Floyd's best ever, in my opinion...

@@octopus672003 The demos for "The Wall" beg to differ. Pink Floyd at their best was very much a collaborative effort, and Roger's raw demos were rather abrasive and unlistenable (or at least unmarketable). That being said, they were very much still gems, albeit in need of refinement and polish from Dave and even Rick.

Roger made up the singing melody and phrasing, but it davids voice sounds cooler doing it. Roger is a genius a vocal phrasing, he didn't make it for david, he just made it and handed it off to him, because this one sounds better with David. Rogers vocal phrasing talent is among the very best in rock history. This is not an easy to song to come up with a singing melody over. And Rogers vocal melody phrazing over Dogs is about the best i've ever heard. Although i do wonder about the middle seection "have a good drown as you go down" I wonder if Roger came up with that singing melody or David. It was prob Roger..... But i've never heard him sing it. Its really cool, I often wonder how did such cool phrazing come out of Roget...... He had a channel to real inspiration back then, like no one else...

according to David, this was probably the hardest song to sing the band has ever written. He didn't like singing it. So much that he has never bothered playing it in his post Floyd career. He preferred playing songs from the Wall (an Album he absolutely hated) over this song. Which is a shame, kinda wanted to see a Wright - Gilmour version of Dogs.

I think this is an early mix / arrangement rather than demo. A number of the instrumental performances are exactly the same as on the final release, even the effects when Nick comes in. That being said, it's cool to hear the "place holder" stuff in there as well. I'm glad they changed up vocal duties though... Roger's voice has an amazing impact on the song in the final cut. It isn't the same here.

Roger just provided the guide voice. As you can notice, most of his phrasing here remains intact in the official version. I don't think he was ever meant to sing this song. And in the parts he actually ends up singing on the official version, he does actually an amazing job. So I attribute the subpar singing here as a reflect of a work in progress, rather than an inability by Roger's part.. i wrote some lyrics before, and i totally identify with the apparently unclearness on how to end a verse when you're singing, and then, a while after, actually finding an awesome way of ending it.

I feel you. This would've been the only box I'd be willing to spend 100€ on. To me it's their best stuff and the most interesting stage of the band aswell. Just the right mixture of waters/gilmour imo. Gilmours musicianship can get boring quite soon. Waters is the epic songwriter and gilmour the melody maker - together with wright of course - I would have also loved more information about the recording, how the ideas evolved, what wright and mason felt like during these days, and of course i want that 77' Boston Bootleg as an official Live release. I would take any Live Concert of that time as an official release. How come Pink Floyd just has Delicate Sound of Thunder and Pulse as official Live recordings? Isn't that a shame?

The instrumental tracks sound close to the final ones. The mix is very different, but some of the regular elements are there. The vocal tracks are very rough, and follow the original live lyrics back when they were considering these songs to be part of the Shine On You Crazy Diamond album (which would have Shine on as side 1, You got to be crazy and Raving and Drooling as side 2). The "reap the harvest you have sown" on Dogs/You got to be Crazy sounds like it's the final version, but missing some overdubs and additional vocals.

Interesting Waters alternate. Like both voices but they made proper choice for the finished product.

I would prefer a version with the music and Roger`s vocal parts from "You`ve Got to Be Crazy 1974" and David`s vocals from the original. So sad my version does not exist :(

Dave's smooth vocals and Roger's manic highs together in song are what made Pink Floyd great. The two of them sharing vocals on Dogs is why it's one of my favorite Floyd songs.

This version is more concise as it doesn't contain that mid-section with all the howling and Vocoder work in it. Plus this has more of Rick's keyboard parts in it that eventually got mixed out of the final version. Interesting demo.
