Mark Knopfler and Chet Atkins play "I'll see you in my dreams" and Imagine live at Secret Policeman's Third Ball 1987. 'Imagine' by John Lennon. Great stuff. Enjoy!

I worked for a coffee company in Nashville during the late 80s. Chet's studio was one of my stops. I walked in one day and Chet and Mark were sitting on a couch picking. After stalling around the coffee bar, Chet said I was welcome to listen. Amazing 30 minutes watching two masters work on a song.

This is brilliant, but then again, both of them usually are! Don't really agree that this is MK at his best. Two of the greatest guitar players ever. Chet Atkins started this kind of guitar playing and a lot of musicians have followed suit and played songs by the greatest ever. Chet Atkins!

Still one of the best videos ever to come back and chill to. Absolute magic - the kind that's hard to see these days.

As a somewhat-respectable (non-pro) guitarist who has truly always loved the instrument and the people who play them ~ I find it amusing when I see headers like 'World's greatest guitarist' and the like. Atkins is one of the greatest pickers of the 20th Century and Knopfler one of the most uniquely-gifted rockers ~ who as one can plainly hear can play way outside of the rock genre. You cannot miss the mutual admiration seen on this clip. What lovely playing!

Exactly. I'm sure Chet would have said and Mark would say 'there is no greatest/best guitarist'. Two of my 'favorites'.

I've just had the joy and honour of singing 'Imagine' to myself, with backing from two of the best guitarists ever. You can do the same. What a time we live in! 😄 Priceless video.

3:15 Its crazy how amazing his playing sounds while hes doing it on the fly. As a guitarist, hes my favourite guitarist.

No matter how many times I watch this I am still in awe. Watching these masters at work is timeless.

A master and his apprentice. You see the love and respect here. Knopfler understands how much more there is to learn and the interplay between them captures it so well. No wonder this has 10 million views - I never get tired of it and I'm sure many others feel the same. Music is timeless.

Jesus, I just saw perhaps the greatest little jam between to brilliant musicians. These guy's just performed a perfect complimentary stage show that show cases the amazing talents they both posses and the interesting aspect of the age difference here between these musicians is not lost. Excellence and the mastery of this instrument will always sound something like this for as long as we care to listen. Respect gentlemen.!

You see? Mark Knopfler plays without plectrum. whipes his nose, now and then. He plays what no one can so effortless. Awesome!

What most people don't see, it's not only Mark's ability to play a spectacular rift but also his ability to be on the same page as Chet. It's seems so seemless but don't be mistaken the flow is God Given. Oh, and a little friendly show boating here and there never hurt anybody 😊

@Hello John how are you doing
@mousiebrown1747 Жыл бұрын
You’re unfamiliar with Mark Knopfler. He IS the best.
@johnhanover2229 Жыл бұрын
@@mousiebrown1747 you are not familiar with Atkins who invented the “ Nashville Sound “. Knofler is great, but he is in top 50 for all time and top 20 for living guitarists. Until you have seen Lawrence Jubert perform one of his symphonies for guitar, or Peter Frampton improvising a Jazz solo on every song just for a concert you are limited. Bajaga y Instruktori of Serbia have produced some scary good guitar work as well. Knofler, is great but he’s not the greatest.
@mousiebrown1747 Жыл бұрын
@@johnhanover2229 I do not listen to classical nor, indeed, all electric guitarists. I place him first (ahead of Frampton) in rock & easy listening guitar-including popular guitarists, as judged by ME. I am familiar with Chet and Doc Watson - maybe not technically “great” but musically great, and my opinion stands. I wish you many happy years of guitar enjoyment.

Well... here I sit in east Tennessee 9-30-20 and still keep going back to these two and am amazed :) I am a drummer but really love to hear true quality guitar from Chet and Mark, I mean what can you say ? So good :) God Bless

Some musicians are on the same page as their band members when playing.....these two 'guitar heros' are sharing the same thought when they play together....the knowing glances and brief smiles.....and I believe that if Chet had lived a bit longer he would have made Mark a C.G.P.

The guitar can express so much emotions that other instruments can't. At the hands of these two masters, we have a feast of them.
