On the first day of this season I hit four rocks that could have ended my winter. Fractured face, three broken bones and a fully ruptured achilles tendon. This is how I healed.

1:20 already thinks about the storyline for structuring this video 12:17 says that he feels bad for disappointing his sponsors while at the same time, this very video transports more positive and authentic brand value for black crows, norrona and pole star than any average joe ski pro does in a career.

This video was a really good mental boost for me. I have to get surgery in a week to get my top rib removed, and while the forecasted recovery is only 6-10 weeks, I have been battling the reality of a much shortened ski season and the upcoming tedium of PT. So, thank you for such an inspiring video, Niko :))
@DraconisNL
@DraconisNL 2 жыл бұрын
Oh, if you are healthy and young you will go through that a lot easier and faster. I had a hip surgery (not the same thing, I know) at 33 and I was back on the slopes in 8-9 weeks (surgery October and skiing in December). Could have done it faster but I wanted to be safe ;) Fun thing was the first thing out of my mouth when I woke up from anesthesia, was asking the doctor when I can ski :D So keep your spirits up and do the work! Best of luck!
@kurtgilbertson
@kurtgilbertson 2 жыл бұрын
You got this man! The forecasts are typically conservative. Put in the work, be persistent, challenge your body but also give it grace when it asks for it and you'll see accelerated recovery. Focus on your shoulder ROM, scapular strength, breathing/bracing, and you'll be on the slopes in no time

Man being injured is the absolute worst, feels so helpless and frustrating! So typical as well that it's the 'smaller' less gnarly falls that give you the worst injury. Didn't know you could have such bad achilles injury despite being locked up in a tight ski boot, scary!

I fucking love videos like this nico, they are amazing to watch when you’re injured. When your feed is filled with those amazing shots of backcountry and you’re stuck at home with a “funny feeling” foot a video like this just really lifts your spirits man. Luckily, i’m not injured right now, but i missed a huge chunk of last season because of a meniscus + ACL injury and when one of my friends started posting updates from hospital with his rehab it really helped me and motivated me to work on mine. So if anybody here in comments is also stuck at home with a bunch of pills and forced to do those ridiculuos excercises they make you do to get well faster - i hope you’re will be shredding with the rest of us sooner rather than later and this video helped you lift your spirits up!

Aww man.. I feel your pain! Not the achilles, but the hand. 3 years ago, skiing in the south of Armenia, we'd just got through the sketchy terrain, and were less than 500 meters from the car. On the flats, where shit happens. Went for a small jump on a pillow, botched the landing, and the pole in my hand squashed against the snow leading to an oblique fracture in all 4 bones of my palm! Keep up the rehab, cos I didn't, and my hand now has funny bumps in it where the bones twisted slightly after the skewer-removal! Like you, I kept the 6 skewers... and now I use them to serve cheese when we have guests over!! ;) And seriously, congratulations on the fast recovery. That was an amazing feat you did. As always.. even in pain.. great storytelling Nikolai. You took the accident like a champ, then the uncertainty, the tragedy of "wait, 6 months?", the comeback... last year you inspired me to do the same. About 10 videos in, still working out the kinks. But the last was a return to the place where I broke my hand. Check it out if you have the time while you recover further haha I'd love to hear your thoughts kzfaq.info/get/bejne/armhZNRjxL2peXU.html And as always, I'd love to show you around Armenia and Georgia if you ever feel like hitting the Caucasus!

Niko, just last night I was wondering why no vids now I know. There are not many KZfaq vids that bring a tear to the eye but watching your early determination, your deep low picking yourself up and then the elation in the snow did just that. Inspirational for all the right reasons and what amazing friends. This morning my daughter had a pilon fracture in her ankle pinned and screwed after a fall last week, this might just be the pick me up she needs. Stay safe and keep the inspiration coming.
