Hey just to make you aware, Moto Guzzi have changes the oil quantity for the rear drive/bevel box. They now state to fill with 160cc of 75w140, instead of 180cc. It seems the fill hole was never a level hole in any case. Filling with over 160cc is known to have caused oil seal failure in the input side of the bevel box. This is for E4 and E5 models and as per the factory service manual. No one likes leaky seals!!!

As a fellow V85TT owner, I have enjoyed watching you videos on this bike. I have changed the transmission oil twice on my bike. Never touched the exhaust system. There is just enough clearance to get the drain plug out. I remove the bottom skid plate and put tin foil on the CAT/collector box to keep the mess down, (still messy though). Getting the drain plug back in is a bit of a pain to get the threads started but still much easier than taking apart the exhaust. I them measure 700 ml. And just pour it all in. The 2020 V85tt's don't have side oil level plug like the 21 and 22's.

I may try that idea on the next one, using foil sounds like a good idea. Anything to keep that oil off the exhaust.

@@cubbysue The various tricks to keep oil away from exhaust and engine casing are so common all over the Internet across all various bikes, but in reality oil is only good for these surfaces. Let it run off the exhaust with the greatest of pleasure and just give it a once over with a rag after you have finished. Results in a nice shiny cleaned exhaust, what else could one wish for.

For the final drive, while fillin oil, you can use the upper bolt for filling and wait till oil will come out from the middle one. Same as you did filling gear box. 3 holes in total (upper part, middle one and drain) Anyway thank you for so detailed video. Good luck

Just did my first oil change on my V85tt today at 1465 miles , thanks to your videos I felt confident enough to do it . Next is my gear box and final drive . My bike is the 2020 model and I seen videos where it was common for these bike to have low gear oil from the factory so I’m changing mine .also it was pointed out that some final drives once oil is changed that if filled at 180 ml that these final drives may leak, an updated recommendation of 160 ml to keep pleasure down and prevent leaking. I see your bike as the oil filler level plug on your gear box ,mine does not have that level plug so I will have to pre measure my gear oil before filling back up . Funny thing is my passenger foot peg was stuck solid , had to oil it 🤪 Thanks again my friend for another fine video ! 😃✌️🇺🇸

You don't have to drop the exhaust to do this. I was able to do it by using an aluminum foil "funnel", similar to the idea of the plastic bottle. But getting the bolt back in the bottom took some time and patience. Lowering the pipes would have made things easier to get the bolt in. Made me think of getting a cat-delete exhaust to have all the room I need.

WOW, 18,000 miles. I have my V85TT for a year and half, used it for 2100 miles and the rest of the time has been at the dealer broken. Finally after trying everything the problem has been found. A bad voltage regulator connection. Yes, you've read this right. Anyway, the bike is on the road and I can finally enjoy it. I have 3 Guzzis. The V85TT even though has been a nightmare.....it is still my favorite bike. Here's a tip. They sell this giant syringes with flexible nozzles and they have volume indicators. They make them for cars, they are made for these jobs. The Cardan or rear differential oil could be changed at every or every other oil change. Very easy and cheap and it is a part that gets a lot of abuse. The weight for the trans is 90 and for the differential is 140. 140 may be a bit too heavy for the transmission but I've heard of people using it in hot climates. There has been some talk about adding a couple of drops of Molly just like the old Guzzis but some people say the oil can become too slippery and have bearing failures. I haven't used any on mine during the first service. As far as the air filter goes, there's enough room to move the battery out of the way while still connected however, why struggle with it, it's only two screws. I noticed a difference between the garbage AGIP or ENI that Guzzi recommends. I use ONLY MOTUL on all my bikes, all the Guzzis, Aprilias, KTM and BMW. Go with the best and forget the rest. By the way. The Cardan oil volume has been revised to 180ml instead of 200. Some V85TT came overfilled and some underfilled. 280 is the correct amount and if overfilled the oil will come out the vent and straight onto your tires, therefore, be precise. The Guzzi tech recommended to use the side vent for adjusting the level....but I think that it may be a bit too much. Well, today I rode the bike to work and put some miles on it, I changed the transmission oil and from start to finish it took me about 20 minutes. I have engine guards installed but also the Y pipe. NOTHING to remove. 2 bolts, 700cc of fluid and done. Without the Y pipe.....well we know, we all watched the video....hehehe

One thing of note is that you probably need to add a Molybdenum disulfide additive in the final drive oil. That would be why the original oil is so black. I have owned a couple of guzzis in the past and always added it.
@tedmarakas2626

How much do you put in there? I bought it, but never used it because some people said it is not needed with the synthetic oils and it can cause bearing failure due to slippage.

I did for a while, until I realized that the warmer the temperatures got, the more necessary it was to use premium fuel. I have a nebie question: how the heck do you adjust the clutch? The only adjustment I see is the adjusting screw near the clutch lever. The manual is confusing to me. fyi-I have about 4-5mm of play where the manual says it should be 2mm. thx Oh, I sent you an earlier comment re: decating the exhaust. The dealer told me it wouldn't void my warranty. So I replaced the stock with an Arrow header/y pipe keeing the stock muffler. It did reduce the heat enough so that it's tolerable. Occasionally I do get decel pops. I'm considering a v twin boost or upmap to help resolve it. Thx Jim

Oh, forgot...re the oil change...are you able to reset the service light yourself? or like the Aprillia 660, are you required to take it into the dealership to reset that light? thanx

@@cubbysue ya, that's poor...that puts me off something like that...ktm 890 adventure r you can reset yourself manually just fyi...hey can ask your thoughts on a possible d-cat for this guzzi model...?? would you see a downside?
@cubbysue

@@Gorilladome4664 other that a warranty issue, a d-cat would probably make the bike a little more peppy....

Are you, or any other viewers, aware of any recommended shaft maintenance? (A La BMW GS). I’ve not read nor heard of anything…but wanted to open the discussion.

Other than the oil changes, I've not seen anything related to extra care on the shaft.

Hello Again; thanks for your helpful videos; they’ve guided me and saved me a lot of trouble on my service and mods to V85TT; have you had further thoughts on adding a Cat delete Y pipe and then possibly a Upmap tune or the Mistral V-booster plug to the ECU for cooler and richer running of the lean E5 set up; I have installed the Mistral y-pipe with the catalyst because contacting Mistral they assured me the y-pipe with and without the catalyst both flow the same amount of air. I am also going to change the end can to a MassMoto carbon fiber unit; I have installed the V booster plug for the time being and plan on doing the Upmap download down the road to make the bike run even better and cooler another suggestion by many V85TT Owners is to add the SAS delete kit for the secondary air; which reduces any deceleration popping and other issues; the y-pipe install would also make service under the bike so much easier and not cluttered. Keep up the good work on the videos and keep us updated on any other mods you perform. Thanks, John.

@cubbysue

No, my Harley will just about set my pants on fire. This is way better. And with the cylinders sticking out the side, they flow more air over them, keeping them cooler.

The elecronics is the weak spot of this bike. My one lost the CC functionality after software updates ( done by the authorezed dealed ) 🤢🤢 - 3 months ago, and still NOT fixed ! Otherwise, this bike shouldn't be a big hassle to work on. You should get yourself a bike lifter - makes every bike-fixing a happy event....☝☝😀😀
