I did this several times on my 1999 740iL and it worked perfectly. I did not know it could be done on later models that require coding .

I have been doing this for over 30 years. Days before diagnostics were different than today. There use to not be any live data. The first BMW to get obd I was the 87 E30 325i had motranic 1.1. I have a old tool for all the 20 pin cars and when I first got live data I was wondering why all cars didn't have it. Well they have more live data than I ever dreamed of.

Hey there. Sorry bugging you but you might know this. I own a E36 92 323i and lately I got the Check Control Inactive warning on the display. I´ve checked most forums etc, and they all talk about reseting the computer by doing the battery thing or pressing 1000 10 simultaneously. But man, I can´t get it to work. What would you recommend? In BMW dealerships we call this a battery reset. This is not risky at all.

Nice work. Would this work on a ‘06 Z4 E85? Been fighting with an engine light and EML intermittently. Sparks changed coils changed even the AA came out once and just reset the codes and it worked fine after being in limp mode. Drives me mad

I own a 2007 520D E60. Do you have any insight on FC 46D1? There are a couple of other codes the popped up along with 46D1. 3F31, 4203, 4212, & 4222. The codes aside from 46D1 is something I can manage replacing parts for. But 46D1 is pointing at replacing the DDE. Is that the only solution when this code shows up? I need some advise on this.. Appreciate any help.

Hey Dr Sean, I have a BMW 2010 135i E88. The set of ABS set of lights of death come on a year back. The light would be gone when I reset the tpms every time. Now the lights are permanent and I am unable to reset the tpms where the reset only showing the square box without being ticked. Pls kindly advise your thoughts. Thanks.

Hi Interesting video! Would this procedure be viable on a 2010 123d and would it correct an issue I think relates to frm3 module (after glow plug swap have no indicators, reverse light, windows or locking)? Is it viable on E82 that has had battery strap recall? (battery looks more complicated on top) . Thank you !

Dean you are a God. I just bought a 2005 530i E60 with 186000 kms in Australia. First BMW I have owned, and I'm blown away. Learnt heaps off your videos mate much appreciated. My Air back light is on permanently and am considering taking terminals off the battery and holding for ten seconds. Do I have to wait 15mins or can I put straight back on. Pretty sure I can put straight back on without waiting and turning lights on to drain car like you did in another video. If someone could let me know I would be so appreciative. I have no blue tooth but don't really care. Everything else is awesome.

Not sure about your troubles but to drain the battery yes, you can hold the leads together to drain quickly. I just took the leads off, removed the dead battery and waited ten minutes which worked as well.

I have a 535xi 2008 bmw. The car is funky no major lights but not always smooth. I do have a howling or high pitched sound when excelerating . Almost like a whistle or strong vac sound. Do you this easy check could help? Mike

Dean, My wife has an 03 x5 3.0. It has the air susp inactive message. The car has all new air struts & I rebuilt the Wabco compressor this weekend. Will doing this reset to factory ride height? Thank you

Hello I have replaced the front plates and the front sensor cable, the cable broke in half and I don't know how, but I soldered it back because I didn't have a new one with me, now when I start the brake light comes on as a warning, just like before I it's broken, it won't reset via the display. I wonder if the brake warning light would go out in this way, as you have now shown. Well, will the hidden functions be canceled -restored, thanks in advance for the answer. it is a bme F11-2015 2.0 D, 191hp :)

Would this work on e92 320d, I have a left mirror adjustment issue, I've checked fuses, tried right mirror motor on left and it still didn't work, anything else it could be, window switches and right mirror adjusts fine

Is there a possible way to relearning valvetronic without a pc because i dont have one i only have mhd i need to change mine i see on bimmerpost you have to turn ignition on and with in 15 sec need to press down to full throttle 10 times and valvetronic will program it self ??!!! Is possible that to work for my bmw f10 n55 ??!!!

I have an e46, rough idle at start up, but if I shut it down and turn it on its normal or if I hit the throttle it’ll idle out. Cold or hot same issue. Fresh tune-up, complete coolant, ignition system, filters, vanos, injectors, ccv, hoses and intake system gasket refresh. During startup if I let it get to a solid idle on its own, I may get cyl misfire 3 or 3,4&5. All work mentioned was completed less than 800miles ago. Any ideas?

I've been trying to learn circuitry. We drain capacitors with resistors . You can get 100 for cheap cheap but 1 will work. Probably a much safer way to connect the leads to "drain circuit reserves"

@@thelocomechanic ,Hi... ok so DEAN video here has the rear trunk lid open correct, so it is drained anyways now,because of the cab light, Also interior lights in the vehicle that is ON when dean opened the rear lid cover, so technically, you really dont need a bulb correct, because it has drained the reserved electricity in the system correct ...As Dean shows,If 2 cables is touched togather the capacitors are completely drained as we know, So DEAN has Completely, drained all of the current everywhere. i did read someplace that a person should not touch 2 cables togather , im not sure if it pertained to BMW or some other vehilcles, But again Dean proved it its ok and, no problems ty

Love that engine purring, lol...! Having no other issues , after Mom had nieces mechanic change my cheap choice of ATE (?) rotors from FCP, to BMW rotors to fix the vibration. By way of persons such as yourself I thought of doing a brake fluid flush also but we have not had to do that yet. But in the process of me contemplating the brake fluid flush one day I pulled the cap on the steering fluid saw that it was not even on the stick though there was at the bottom reservoir showing fluid. I bought some press tone European power steering fluid and added their to but liberally must have put a 1/4 cup over . We have no digital display of any problem but steering went out and was hard like old-school manual steering for Mom that evening. So a friend suggested the battery reset and I will suck out the excess fluid while it is resting. Hopefully power steering pump is not ill. I watched your video where you suggest Forte... But I must do what I can in the interim before buying any other products. I did order a Euro parts reservoir to change it if need be. Waiting on that arrival...

Never heard of this method before but interesting to know. But how about the gearbox iteself? If you reset that one doesn't it need relearning? The whole cumbersome process of driving slow, accelerating, coasting back to initail speed, then manually selecting gears up to the last one and accelerating and coasting back again several times etc etc....?

Hi Doctor, thank you for the vedio, i have a 320i, 2011 covertable with N43 engine. I disconnected the battery doing rocker cover gasket. On coonecting the battery back, it wont turn on, i even tried with IBS disconnected, but it would not make any differnce. When put the key in ignition only the airbag ligght and radio comes on, everything else is dead. Will the reset help

My E60 suddenly wouldn't start this evening, had to get the AA out to look at it. They diagnosed the battery sensor as faulty. They've temporarily disconnected this and the car starts fine now. Is this much of an aggro to replace? I've noticed that the car doesn't go into sleep mode either as the light on the transmissiom remains illuminated. But unsure if this was related to the battery sensor or if that's a separate issue. It's good to see you back Dean. Love your content and thanks to you or any of the people who see this comment in advance for any help that you may be able to offer me. 😊

Would this fix a 801C20 fault code saying the Central Fault Memory is Full. No other codes and the vehicle drives perfectly. I tried replacing a weak battery to fix this and successfully coded it using my LAUNCH Creader Elite for BMW. The code keeps coming back...any ideas on what I can do? I found the ZGM (central gateway module) in the Creader and tried clearing the memory there but didn't help.

Hey how you doing having a problem with the 2016 BMW 535i I installed a new power steering rack and alignment doing the vehicle and I had to turn it off. Turn it back on and it and it will start working properly. Another problem at work and I steer the wheel I hear not a noise from the electric power, steering rack and pinion. What do you recommend I do next can get rid of a code eighther wich is D02D07 and codeD0167f please help or guide me a right way thank you

I have 2022 bmw x6 40i only 9k Iam the only owner So question: A lot of people doing coding to the cars like getting video motion Close the truck with key different Colors inside the car M futures etc. I have not done that but it’s tempting. on my bmw e 46 sometimes when I turn on the ignition there is no light and then it won't start, and when I turn on the ignition and there is a light it starts every time, once I turned the key for 15 minutes until the lights appeared, is this also a problem with the fuse box and does the whole box have to be changed or only a specific fuse?? at the service center they want to replace the entire box, which is not very cheap.

Hi. Good vid for some cars. Does not work on older 2006 X3. Some replacement parts have to be programed and reset with the scan tool. Example: pedal position sensor, front differential oil changes, transfer case actuator if new. There are other systems that need programming. So, just touching the battery cables does not fix all problems. Cool channel by the way.

To all e60 550I N62 4.8 owners engine that are having intermittent start issues, rough idle, and intermittent stalling while driving!. CHANGE YOUR Integrated voltage module now. (IVM)

Or you could save a few bucks and re-solder the couple of solder joints that fail over time in the ivm. Had starting issues a few years back, did that fix, and no problem since.

Hi, I changed the old shifter knob on my BMW to the the same one but newer and now I can’t Reverse. Had malfunction error and cleared by press down the gas paddle for 30 seconds. But still can’t go reverse. Any advise would be appreciated!

thanks doctor. my lights only came on when starting my car. no indicatros or hazards. told it was Light control Module. reset as you said. and reset ECU. it WORKED. reconnected and all working fine thx mate

On my Mercedes it’s advised that we disconnect the negative side first. Does it make a difference?

Thank you fo0r this video. I knew about the procedure quite a while ago, b7ut did not know if it would require any coding of the battery or other components. My E38 didn't require coding. Now I feel more confident in dong this before biting the bullet and taking my F01 to the shop (multiple misfires I can't eliminate with plugs and coils).

Tail lights on my 2010 328i continue to strobe when off and locked. Assume my footwell module is wonky after battery died in storage. Is it worth trying this method to reset the module. Thanks.

Hi great video. Will this work on my e90 I have a short circuit error. I have replaced bulbs but the frm module needs a reset. Also should negative be removed first and then positive when removing battery connectors and then the opposite when connecting battery back up? Thanks

Always remove negative then positive. When connecting battery cables: 1st positive then negative.

WHY did you pull positive first..... then installed positive last??? Negative terminal first... learned that from you

Disconnect earth first reconnect last.

He pulled the positive to ground out any residual power throughout the car to do the reset. No need to pull the negative.

So I have a 2021 Supra, BMW at heart, will this work to clear driver and passenger restraint system errors? I replaced the seatbelts with a custom set to match the interior trim stitching, refraction blue. I had to drive it without the seatbelts and now even after everything is all hooked back up like it should be. It’s still coming up with the same errors. Thanks, Will

Aloha all, I have 2014 F30 that I recently gave to my son and picked up a 2023 G30. I love G30 because of the added space (being 6’ it’s awesome) and also loved the F30. I have a bit of a problem though right now with the G30. I installed an amp and sub into the F30 by tapping a LOC to the speaker wires myself. I then picked up the 2023 G30 and thought I could do the same but now I have no sound and the driver assistance warning systems are not working either. Any ideas? I put Everything back together but it hasn’t corrected yet. Do I need to drive it more for it to reset or do I need to do a reset? PLEASE HELP!

Just bought a ‘08 e61, washed the engine bay, and now both headlights stopped working. I have angel eyes and turn signals, but the four headlight not. It is xenon. Well, doctor Dean, will the reset help min me?

If I try this on my 125i will it reset the ecu and take of the map? Also my abs sensor seems to b messing about I tried changing it with new one but I’m now getting air bag light and the speedo seems to not show the speed I’m going it’s intermittent can u help

Weren't you supposed to remove negative terminal first or is that a myth and does it matter which one you put on battery first I always when disconnecting pull negative 1st when I put cables back on I start with positive first

got an n52 after i come to a stoplight in gear it will idle lower than 600 rpm any thoughts? it only dips a couple times.

TY Dean!! 100-100 great to be sure and you have proved no issues.!!QUESTION I have a 2013 x5 35i 3.0 litre turbo, i have a 28A0 CODE------ Throttle Valve opening Angle--intake pressure pressure comparison pressure to high.would aThrottle Body Relearn procedure get rid of this code, i dont see anything wrong and checked everything visually, no issues....this code continues to reappear and the vehicle drive and pulls fine... ty,

Had jump start my 2012 z4, and now I cannot open the trunk and the windows are in the down position. I have checked fuses and nothing. I cannot figure out how to get the trunk open, button above the hood release is not working. Have any suggestions on how to open the trunk? Manually?

Hi Dean, Ive got an e90, 320d ED 2010 - Few weeks back during cold weather, the lighting system went on the car. The car is going in for a recall for this issue - will this work for this issue? Part of me thinks, no harm in trying, but logical side of me thinks - dont bother - its an issue caused by the reason the vehicle is being recalled.... so lost - i have front and back lights on from ignitions, but no indicators, or hazords or brake lights.

ik this is 8 months old but no, the FRM module is toast you would need to get it replaced/repaired
