@Sara Moustamandi the thing is, even though I agree with you, you got to understand things like they are. Once these pop "icons" together with their record labels exploit the teenage and mainstream easily pleased ears, they always want to go back to the credibility, more snobbish route, that's usually what happens, then they get ashamed of the past songs and even grow resentment to their fans, which looks like the case here, she wants an older, more mature and more credible fanbase, which is sad to be real...

Doja Cat is a prime example why we should work on not being so invested in artists and just show up for the music only. Also artists should go back to the 60s, 70s in terms of public image. Just make music and keep it pushing. If you don’t want to do that, just bow out as gracefully as possible. Social media is just making it harder for any fan or casual listener to separate the art from the artist

Rick James was legit going crazy on cocaine (although that was in the 90s so I didn’t mention it but still applies tho) and R Kelly had rumblings bout his pedophilia in the 90s and got caught in the early 2000s, before social media and these guys still stayed successful after all that also

I don’t agree. I feel like artist should be able to express their personality even if it’s terrible. It’s completely up to the fans atp whether they want to separate the artist from their music or just ditch them entirely. The artist holding their tongue for the sake of “fans” fawning after the mysterious person (they probably don’t want to be) opens that artist to ever worse criticism than before because people can assume *anything* about that artist atp. It’s dangerous and leaves a real person as a caricature for “fans” to play with and mold how ever _they_ see fit. That feels gross and wrong. They should be free to speak however they please. If it’s their downfall then at least they know how they got back to the bottom again. It’s owning that they screwed up and that sounds way better than potential rumors ruining an innocent person’s career.

I think we are in a space where fans are confusing some rude and ungrateful female artists with being empowered and strong. In the 90’s and early 00’s an artist like this would not thrive. Women got torn apart for way less than this and to this day have been branded as difficult or b*tchy for respectfully speaking their mind. Fast forward to now, objectively rude artists like Doja are being called iconic. Rihanna went through a phase like this from 2010-2014, and put her management and label in a tough spot when her album sales declined and her deals began to fall through. Doja is a textbook bully (see her interactions with Lory Hill, Noah Schnapp, TinyChat, recent retweet spree, and countless degrading comments to fans online) and she comes across as extremely ungrateful and why people continue to support her is beyond me. But ICONIC 👑✨ I guess…
@zosiexofficial

Yeah, nowadays people confuse being mean or even abusive with being empowered and feminist. For example I don't get why Maddy was a fan favourite character of the show Euphoria and people see her as iconic and say that she's most likeable from the cast even tho she's an agressive character (and even framed innocent person which was really messed up) and fans of the show are like "Yeah go off queen!" It's good to be empowered but people sometimes see literal abuse and rudeness as empowerment and that's not ok

People love to disdain pop music because it's seen as commercial and generic but they forget that even in the genre there are good and bad pop music. There are TIMELESS pop songs like Thriller, Vogue, I Wanna Dance with Somebody, Toxic, Baby One More Time, Bad Romance, Born This Way and there are songs that only hit for a couple months or not even that 🤷🏾‍♀

I honestly wouldn't say "for good", since she kind of built her whole persona (at least initially) through the internet (and it was genuinely working for her). She should just take a break until her new album comes out - and, when she comes back, to just stick to her Tiktok and Instagram livestreams like she used to, and do it sporadically (and to stay off Twitter for good). She needs to grow up and stop picking unnecessary fights.

Doja has been so defensive/argumentative lately. I understand there are some annoying people who bandwagon to say some dumb stuff, but she heavily focuses on them. Even though so many people support her creativity and expression. She's been jumping between "Im so random, weird and funny" to "everyone else is dumb and im superior because no one gets me or anything I do". Like idk if doja forgot, but we fell in love with her for being herself and being experimental. Now all she does is bash the trolls on the internet, get on live to rant/acknowledge negative comments, and talk about how none of her music in the last couple of albums was authentic or enjoyable. Take cover if any fans provide constructive criticism. We get the label is holding her back from artistic freedom, we get there's dumb comments, and we get that people on the internet are dumb but doja... take a breath and just do you. It's giving me whiplash. Doja doing something unusual as a troll, people on the internet talk per usual, Doja doesn't like the response and goes on a Twitter/live rant asking people to drop it, Doja continues to talk about/ acknowledge the topic she wants to be dropped, topic dies down because it wasn't that deep to begin with and it's the internet, cycle loops. And the way that she claims she isn't "talking to her fans she's talking to the haters" as if she hasn't become consumed by talking to haters 24/7. The way she makes her actual fans feel like suckers for genuinely enjoying the "cash grab" music she puts out is sick. And she genuinely thinks she's frying fans by saying we're the suckers for supporting her. It's so sad because we want to support her but what do we get for supporting? Getting called stupid for enjoying her uninspired music and her disliking it so much that she won't even listen to it or promote it but she'll laugh at us... yeah ok. " I don't play with my pen, I mean what I write"???

Because of her response other fans went and attacked the fan page. What's crazy is that the fanpage was in the replies of the tweet defending Doja from people who were pointing out she was rude to the fanpage for no reason, because apparently "Doja was joking around". She somehow programmed her fanbase to believe anything she does wrong is either her trolling, joking or wasn't wrong in the first place. It's really sad lol.

tbh i think its deeper than just being ungrateful. doja has always been 'weird' with her looks and music and while her last 2 albums were bops there wasn't as much of her weirdo stuff as seen in amala and songs like bitch I'm a cow and nintendhoe.. the way that everyone reduces her to sexy from her fame from these last 2 albums probably makes her feel that she has to act that way all the time. especially when she shaved her brows and hair, that red jewel outfit, the grammy worm outfit causing lot of bullying from everyone and she many times retaliated by talking about how shes always been creative with her looks. idk i think shes very frustrated of her current public image not matching her true self where she has to constantly defend her stylistic choices against locals, like shes stuck in a box where she can only be sexual and nothing else. its a lot of stress so now she feels like she needs to retaliate and make her fanbase feel dumb so that all the locals that called her crazy for just being herself will be offended and leave, so that only thefans that enjoy her alternative stuff remain. i am not saying this is right, but this rage isn't just random and reflects whats expected of black women in the industry.

As someone who likes Doja, I think she should step off the Internet and music for a while (at least until her new album is ready). She is clearly growing and moving away from her past identity as an artist - however, she hasn't yet had the opportunity to show that in her music. Thus, there's a disconnect between how she sees herself, and how other people currently perceive her (and where she currently stands in the music industry). She's acting out in negative ways because of it. This type of behavior is not unprecedented for her, (as she tends to be quite impulsive and getting in trouble because of it), but I feel like she's getting worse. It shows immaturity and emotional instability. As someone who's recently realized I'm trans, I completely understand the feeling of suddenly coming to see yourself in a new light, and growing frustrated with the fact that no one else around you sees you for who you truly are yet. I'm currently trying to step away from a lot of people in my life until I'm truly satisfied with how I present - and I honestly think Doja should do the same. I understand that it's much harder to reinvent yourself when you're a big celebrity, since everyone is so aware of your every step as an artist - but this behavior isn't doing her any favors. She ends up coming off as arrogant and out-of-touch. I hope she does step away for her fans' and for her own sake. I like her music, and I'm excited for her new direction - she just needs to take a step back, reflect on herself, be patient, and grow up.
