That little piece in the front of your train, we always called it a cow catcher, but I believe all it does is clear the rails of debris. Great idea!!!

I believe Mrs White is correct, the V-shaped grill on the front of the train is called a Cow Catcher. It helps clear the tracks. I have been crafting variations of this train for almost a full year now. This fun, supposedly inexpensive, Dollar Tree project has cost me a fortune! I first spiraled down the rabbit hole in December of last year. I wanted to make that train! The problem.. I started making the train in mid-December, when essentially all the supplies were gone. I decided if I couldn't buy what I needed I'd make it. That led to me buying supplies like saws, glues, spray paint, stencils, candy to turn into faux candy, (that didn't work) styrofoam, sucker sticks, more paint, wood, piping bags, icing tips, Dapp caulk, stuff off of Amazon, etc, etc. True story, no exaggeration! And of course I didn't want to make just one train, I wanted to make one for each of my kids, to have for my GrandKids. A word of advice from a crafter that has spent an obscene amont of money for this wonderful, home made train: BUY YOUR SUPPLIES NOW IN NOVEMBER! It will save you hundreds of dollars and a minor obsession problem with finding supplies. I love my train! But I have four more to go, and I continue to search out and enjoy videos like yours for creative and fun train ideas. Thank you for sharing!! Another great DIY, love the train. My DT has never had the Jenga blocks so I would have to either order a bunch from DT or get them on Amazon. Until I found your channel I really didn't think I would need them, but now I do!

OMG! My grandson who is 8 has been amazed by trains since he started playing with toys. He wasn't interested in cars so much. He is so involved with trains that he can tell you how they run and how to operate the engine. Last year while home schooled because of covid, he asked his teacher if he could do a report on trains instead of fish. He really dug into everything about how they run and how to operate each type of engine. The report was done so well ya thought he was in high school. So I will run to dt and grab him 6 boxes of blocks so he can make this. I know he will want to make a few more cars. The longer the better for him. Thanks so much for sharing this. the front piece is called a cow pusher. It was designed to push the cows off the tracks if they got hit.

The wooden circle you used on the smoke stack looks like the base for the round clothespins that are used to make litte dolls.
