Since I don't have toddlers anymore, I asked my friend, Dana Schmoyer from Schmovies, to raid Dollar Tree for toddler sensory bin ideas. Sensory bins are a great way to play and explore. Remember that you should always supervise your children when using sensory bin items, as many of them are small. Toddlers that are still oral and place things in their mouth should not use sensory bins. Start sensory bins with tolerable textures and work up to textures that are more sensitive.

I put those muffin tins in a bin and add mixed dry beans. Kids love the sound of them dropping in the tin. They like to use spoons for scooping. The plastic ones break so I use metal ones. Craft sticks and cups too. They will fill up several cups with sticks and dump them out and do it all again. Kids can learn so much with sensory bins.

I use cut up pipe cleaners and Pom pom. Use a magnet wand and the pipe cleaners will stick to it. I also use paper clips and a magnet wand. Good for science learning. These are usually for 3 years and up but if you are playing with the child they are safe. The pipe cleaners and paper clips are sold at Dollar Tree.

Christina, Great video! Hi Dana. I just wanted to tell you that I do most of this with my daycare littles. With the contact paper, after we place items on the sticky side, we turn it over and draw things encompassing the items that we placed on it. Tissue paper and pipe ckeaners are a big thing with our current group. Last year stickers was a favorite. Thanks for sharing. There are never too many ideas to keep the kids learning.

My daughter is 7 and is special needs. I think some of these will work for her too. Was hoping maybe you could do a video doing ideas for special needs children.

Yes, many of the things you'll see on my channel work or can be adapted for special needs. It is hard to do just one video, because "special needs" can mean many things.

I start a sensory bin at my daycare as soon as a child can sit up and hold things. I use large craft sticks in a bin or clothes pins. Add a large mouth plastic bottle and show them how to put them in. They love to hear them drop in. You need to be there with them at all times.
