The reason Aldi's mustard isn't as yellow is that they have a company-wide policy that Aldi brand ingredients never use artificial color.

turmeric isn't artificial color though and is listed in the Aldi's mustard ingredients, which are nearly the same ingredients as French's. It's really just about quantity and quality in this case.

As someone who used to work in retail, I wanna say THANK YOU for mentioning that cashiers should be allowed to sit down! IIRC Trader Joe's actually licenses the Aldi name as a brand here in the US; it's not at all the same as a german Aldi. But there are a lot of diehards over here that love the store. Trader Joe's is a more premium US grocer and some of the items are the same in both stores, but Aldi is much more affordable than Trader Joe's, or even mainstream grocers in the US.

@KevinCruz-pu2ue
@KevinCruz-pu2ue 2 ай бұрын
I've had that bread and it is not the typical Dollar Tree bread. You must have found a store with that landed a limited supply because the typical Dollar Tree bread is about half a loaf of the same crap bread you bought at Aldi. Also, Aldi has cheaper beef patties by the pound than those boxed ones, so if you don't think beef quality matters (which if you prefer your beef patties to not be 100% beef, you clearly don't), then you should've gotten those. It kind of feels like you might've inadvertently stacked the deck for Dollar Tree here by buying all the smaller quantity name brand options when they also carry generic mustard and ketchup that have larger quantities; you certainly didn't do well with the presentation by buying that really expensive beef that wonked out the pricing. Dollar-for-dollar, your money goes a little bit further at Aldi than it does at Dollar Tree if you're buying full equivalents.

Yeah, Aldi has some really good stuff if you look for it. Usually have a rotation of gourmet mustards, ciabatta buns or other sourdough loaves, better cheeses, Fresh produce (no lettuce, tomato, onion used here). You could easily blow a Dollar Tree meal out of the water if you aren't hamstringing your ingredients by what's available in Dollar Tree.

I agree as well. We shop at Aldi, about 75% of our groceries come from there. They have a big variety of cheeses, and especially breads. And sometimes some really good mustards from Germany. They usually also have many different kinds of pickles. I agree that the ketchup is sweet, he used the organic one from Aldi. Not sure how another organic ketchup will compare. It does use real sugar, and not high fructose corn syrup.

I feel that for something like this they should just be buying the cheapest of each product or at least try and match the products as closely as possible (they didn't use any fresh produce because Dollar Tree doesn't sell it, but then used fancy bread from Dollar Tree and cheap bread from Aldi).

I LOVED this one. These are literally the 2 stores I use the most, because the dollar store is closest but I like Aldi better. My argument would be that you’re getting a lot more product on the Aldi side… like yea the Dollar Tree bread is thicker, but there’s way more slices on the Aldi loaf and come on if you wanted thick burger bread, get a bun! Also, hot take, not super fan of the pickles from either place. Aldi’s are better but pretty much any other grocery store here has better pickles… and way higher prices 😅

As a person who has to shop at Aldi and dollar tree for budget reasons, Aldi sells in larger sizes than dollar tree. Dollar tree sells name brand condiments for example but only in tiny sizes which don’t last very long. Aldi has normal sizes which last longer and while maybe not as good as name brand are still really good. Dollar tree does sell better bread but only gets delivery twice a week and you must be there on Tuesday or Thursday to get a decent selection. It’s also normally being sold at or with a day or two of expiration in order to sell the name brand bread at cheap prices. It’s basically what name brand store didn’t sell in time. I go to dollar tree for bread and snacks and Aldi for almost everything else.
@ep4704
@ep4704 2 ай бұрын
As a follow up Aldi charges 25 cents for taking a cart, but you get it back when you return it. It’s just a way of getting you to secure the carts. It’s also better value per item than the tiny sizes dollar tree sells. If your really limited in funds for the month dollar tree is good but you will buy more often and spend a lil more.

The trick to using singles on burgers is folding the corners in to make it a diamond shape. Then you wait until your burger is 99.9% cooked, add the cheese and keep the pan on the burner, but put a lid on it and turn the burner off. The only time I've had it melt too much was when I was pulled away and couldn't get to them when I would've normally.

I wish you had a LIDL grocery store near you. A different german grocery chain. It's just weird, they bring in random stuff for sale from week to week. I bought a TIG welder at Lidl. And the Lidl in my city is pretty small. Just a neighborhood grocery store selling cheap TIG welders for a limited time.

I think much of his attitude is probably more a California thing than an American thing. Look at Link's attitude toward Aldi from an older episode where he said something to the effect of "They make you pay a quarter for a cart!". Aldi didn't make it to California until the last decade I think whereas it is has been around the midwestern US for MUCH longer. I've been going to Aldi for most of my life so what Josh is freaked out by is normal for many Americans.

This is unintentionally a reality check for those living in Europe (and especially the UK), regarding further deregulation and what companies/supermarkets can get away with as the lowest treshold of food (quality), assuming both ALDI and Dollar Tree are the cheapest options for people who don't have a choice. The burger patty and the mayo are off putting, but the rest of the stuff isn't much better especially if you think about what they put in there to make it taste good (loads of salt/sugar).

the stores are just stores and have most of stuff from where the store is. like thailand used to have tesco before they sold it, they had 1 shelf of tesco branded products as imports and rest just same as other thai supermarkets. I do miss that 1 shelf of tesco branded products dearly. also say Lidl in finland has a lot of finnish product nowadays and a bunch of german cheapo brand stuff. for a lot of stuff the finnish cheapo stuff is just cheaper and better so a lot of the german stuff has been phased out (edit: the cheap german stuff like the inhouse soda brands were their gimmick when they came to finland 20 years ago) there's no beating a german supermarket in germany, I can agree with that.
