Excellent Video I knew vaguely of Dolly from mentions In a couple books on sailing barges of the East Coast.. Certainly a tough lady and very big hearted who worked to improve life for those around and associated with the Docks,

I met Dolly a couple of times in 71 & 72 as a apprentice Waterman at Poplar & Blackwall RC, real character

I knew of dolly but this filled in the gaps she is spoken well off in a couple books on Thames Barges and there interaction with lighter men.

My grandfather was a skipper on the Tug the Gnat on the Thames before the war his name was Morris Charles Brown and I wish I could find out more .

The Gnat (there was more than one with the same name) was owned by Gaselee and Sons

Excellent film. Had heard of the lady , through her rowing connections but, never knew she was such a hands on tug & barge company owner. Sounds like one of Life’s characters.
