Dolly has a way of being alive in all of her performances. Even if she’s repeating herself, she does it slightly different single time and this keeps it fresh. Each performance is always brand new. She is always in the moment, that’s what makes her timeless.

Your dad had a good ear (and eye)... That was one of the best videos I've ever seen. Dolly is like a bottle of champagne and Bill Monroe's voice is unreal.

This was from a wonderful 1978 TV special "Fifty Years of Country Music", which was co-hosted by Dolly, Roy Clark and Glen Campbell, and which featured nearly every major country music artist from the 1940s through the '70s who was still alive and performing as of '78. I wish they'd release it on DVD. Many veteran artists, including Monroe, Kitty Wells, Ernest Tubb and the Carter Family (featuring what may well have been the final TV appearance of Mother Maybelle) appeared alongside then-current artists, and it really was a wonderful time capsule of country music, old and new.

Bucket list: Build a Time machine and travel to see Bill Monroe and Dolly at it this venue!! Released on November 9, 1970, by RCA Victor. The album features Parton's biggest hits up to that point, along with a few non-single album tracks. The album included two previously unreleased tracks; the single, "Mule Skinner Blues (Blue Yodel No. 8)", for which Parton earned her first Grammy nomination.

I have been singing my heart out all over the United States since I was knee high to a grass hopper. I loved Dolly since I was 10 years old and my mother gave me a poster from an album she bought with a piece of straw hanging out of her mouth in a barn with Daisy duke shorts on (okay..so MAYBE it wast the MUSIC that got my attention) but as the years went on and life tossed me many curves...I grew to know and love the "HEART" of DOLLY and if you listen to her talk or sing..then you KNOW without a blink that Dolly is the REAL deal. Her spirit dwells within me daily. I just love her. I was framed last year in a Presidential assassination plot by a crazy politician from Tupelo, Ms named James Everette Dutschke. The Feds jumped the gun and arrested me falsely and held me without bond for a week telling me I would never see my children again. I thought, "IF/WHEN I get out of THIS...Surely, Dolly will call me and say "hey let's record a duet together and donate all the money to the WRONGFULLY ACCUSED" in this world" but no call yet. I am KC...I LOVE DOLLY and I approve this message

I love how respectful Dolly is when singing duets. She tones her voice down a bit to harmonize with her partner. Her solo on this is a bit bigger. Bill Monroe is an icon, but Dolly seems to get him to crack a hint of a smile.

I love both of 'em but Bill Monroe is almost completely immune to Dolly Parton. He doesn't give a shit, he just does what he's gonna do. I couldn't be immune to Dolly Parton now, let alone then. One of the prettiest women ever, singing her tits off (and that's a lot of singin'), on your song, right up on you, and you manage to not seem to give a shit...
