She’s always spoken so beautifully about Whitney and the way she sang her song. If only everybody could be as gracious as Dolly. Everything doesn’t always have to be a competition.

Of course she's gracious. Whitney's version made, and CONTINUES to make Parton a shit ton of money!!!! And fair play, why not, it's DOLLY'S song. Always will be.
@Caprizonica
@Caprizonica 4 жыл бұрын
Of course it's not a competition. Was Whitney ever a songwriter? Dolly was already a millionaire before this song. Elvis wanted the song and she refused because his people wantef the rights. She already had money enough to say no. She really wanted Elvis to sing it but not under those conditions She already knew her value back then. But do you know whom she gave her song to just because she thought she could sing anything? Linda Ronstadt. Whitney's version is based on hers and never gets recognition for that. Go listen to it and you'll realize Whitney wasn't that of a genius. It's just an overproduced version of Linda's. Dolly contacted Whitney's producers to to tell them to add the last verse Linda had removed. Whitney's mother used to be Linda's backup singer so I bet Whitney had already had heard the song, contrary to that story that Kevin Costner came out with the song.

It's sad to think about what might have been, because it wasn't Elvis who demanded that shit. It was his manager, COL. TOM PARKER, who said no to Elvis doing a lot of stuff, including the 73 remake of "A Star is Born", with Barbra Streisand. Elvis only did one show outside of the USA, because Parker couldn't travel to other countries for some legal reason. I think he wanted to do somethings differently, but he didn't have the money to buy the Colonel out. Parker called the business shots until Elvis' death.

Whitney was not a songwriter. Dolly is a songwriter, and it's her song. What Whitney was was a MASTER of musical interpretation, so it's as if she wrote every song she sung. So many of her famous songs were covers, including The Greatest Love of All, so it's silly to argue over who's song this is. Dolly and Whitney are both amazing talents, and that's all that matters.

Nophi Mitchell Y’all are bugging. No one says this is Whitney’s Song. Everyone knows this is Dolly’s song, well I take that back, those are Dolly’s words, the creator made it Whitney’s song. It is a completely different song from Dolly’s. But Whitney doesn’t get credit for that either. The arranger does. Whitney sang the mess out of that song and arrangement but even Dolly acknowledges that. But the world knows this is Dolly’s written song. Whitney’s version paid Dolly so well that Dolly honestly doesn’t give a shit what you say about it as long as you cut Dolly the check🤣

Besides that song, Whitney took "Greatest Love of All" (another remake) to Number 1, "I'm Every Woman" to Number 1 & "I Believe In You & Me" to the Top 5 in the Pop & R&B charts. Nobody ever "forgets" Dolly wrote the song. A lot of young people may not know that Dolly wrote it, but it has never been a secret or anything that anybody forgot. Dolly's renditions were successful, but Whitney's singing-- along with David Foster's production-- made the song into the ultimate global phenomenon.

I remember when Dolly shared her heart through this song in the early ‘70s and I was SO DEEPLY MOVED back then, and I cried. When Whitney made it a huge hit again in The Bodygaurd I fell in love with the song again. Whitney was such a wonderful singer! I saw Dolly on stage once in a rather intimate venue and I will tell you that she is one sincere and big hearted person!!! THAT’S what I experienced when Dolly sang in that concert and when she sang “I Will Always Love You” you just KNEW that that was written fron deep down in her most honest and brilliant soul. That’s why I cry; because it is that artistic connection with our humanity that is what both Dolly and Whitney remind me, and US all, of!

Dolly wrote this song when she was leaving her singing partner Porter Waggoner to strike out on her own. The most heartfelt rendition is the very first time she sang it, saying goodbye to him on his show. So gentle and sweet. The song is timeless.

I just love Dolly. Sweetest face you ever could see. I informally met her once as a young African American college kid in NYC. My auntie got me a job as a doorman in this swanky building on 5th Ave and guess who lived part-time in that building. Ms Pardon heard my southern Ascent and took the time to say hi to me. I was a fan from the word hello.

One of the greatest songwriters ever. She wrote I will Always love you and Jolene in one evening. Now - that's good! Not only extremely talented, but also a very, very shrewed business woman.
